  • Stereolithography can be classified into two main categories according to the cross-sectional shape: scanning type and projection type. Projection stereolithography has significant advantages when making a layer using a single patterned beam, and results in improved speed and accuracy. To implement relatively low-cost projection stereolithography, we developed a system using a commercially available resin, which cures on exposure to visible light. The optimum photoinitiator was investigated, as well as the mixing ratio. The viscosity, shrinkage, curing depth and tensile strength were evaluated through several experiments on fabricated three-dimensional structures, and thus an optimal resin selection system was developed.

  • Monoanionic nickel(Ⅲ) complexes, [Ni(dmbit)2]1- and [Ni(dmbbip)2]1- where dmbit2- and dmbbip2- denote 2-thiobenzo[d]-1,3-dithiole-5,6-dithiolate and 1,2-bis(isopropylthio)benzen-4,5-dithiolate, respectively, have been synthesized by the iodine oxidation of dianionic complexes. In the scanning electron microscopic(SEM) images, these complexes show the well-grown two-dimensional layered structures which are clearly comparable to the dianionic ones with three-dimensional structures. Magnetic susceptibilities of nickel(Ⅲ)complexes are fitted well with the two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet model of S=1/2 system resulting in the spin-exchange parameters (|J|/k) of 11.4 K and 0.45 K, respectively. The weaker magnetic interaction in [Ni(dmbbip)2]1- is resulted from the bulky isopropyl groups on the periphery of dmbbip ligand. EPR measurements for [Ni(dmbit)2]1- give the signal with axial symmetry and the anisotropic g-values for low-spin nickel(Ⅲ) (g//=2.158, g =2.030,gav=2.074 at 300 K; g//=2.162, g =2.038, gav=2.080 at 77 K). It is therefore concluded that nickel(Ⅱ) is oxidized to nickel(Ⅲ), rather than dmbit2- and dmbbip2- ligands are, by the iodine oxidation. The paramagnetic Ni(Ⅲ) would be located in the axial symmetry(D4h) with the electronic configuration of (dxz2dyz2dz22dxy1dx2-y20).

  • Background: Mandibular motion tracking system (ManMoS) has been developed for orthognathic surgery. This article aimed to introduce the ManMoS and to examine the accuracy of this system. Methods: Skeletal and dental models are reconstructed in a virtual space from the DICOM data of three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) recording and the STL data of 3D scanning, respectively. The ManMoS uniquely integrates the virtual dento-skeletal model with the real motion of the dental cast mounted on the simulator, using the reference splint. Positional change of the dental cast is tracked by using the 3D motion tracking equipment and reflects on the jaw position of the virtual model in real time, generating the mixed-reality surgical simulation. ManMoS was applied for two clinical cases having a facial asymmetry. In order to assess the accuracy of the ManMoS, the positional change of the lower dental arch was compared between the virtual and real models. Results: With the measurement data of the real lower dental cast as a reference, measurement error for the whole simulation system was less than 0.32 mm. In ManMoS, the skeletal and dental asymmetries were adequately diagnosed in three dimensions. Jaw repositioning was simulated with priority given to the skeletal correction rather than the occlusal correction. In two cases, facial asymmetry was successfully improved while a normal occlusal relationship was reconstructed. Positional change measured in the virtual model did not differ significantly from that in the real model. Conclusions: It was suggested that the accuracy of the ManMoS was good enough for a clinical use. This surgical simulation system appears to meet clinical demands well and is an important facilitator of communication between orthodontists and surgeons.

  • Recently, turbines operating in hydro power plants are required to undergo renovation and modernization due to their age exceeding 30 years. In the process of renovation or modernization, a performance test of the scaled-down model is necessary to verify the performance of the real-size model. This model test method, with criteria that is similar to that of a real turbine, is the most economical and important method. Furthermore, the shapes of the runner and guide vane can be modified or replaced easily. However, during the process of modernization, the components with the spiral casing and draft tube are impossible to repair or replace because of the buried ground. Thus, in this study, numerical analysis is conducted to investigate the hydraulic performance based on the difference between the two-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) shape and the real three-dimensional scan shape of the spiral casing and draft tube.

  • Recently, weapon system requires personal protection products due to the explosion of rapid-fire explosion, which is considered to be multi threat in modernization, complication and war against terrorism. However, the conventional Korean military bullet protection helmets are not suitable for wearing convenience and combatant interoperability in terms of ergonomic. In this paper, we propose a suitable 3D Scanning method for the head, and compare the measured 3D dimension with the existing 2D measurement value to identity the reliability. Reverse engineered soldier head using the quick surface method was realized with a perfect free-form surface and satisfactory tolerance range (${\pm}0.2mm$). Through the comparison of 3D and 2D measured head dimensions, the absolute error value was 0.73 mm on average and relative error was 0.35 %, confirming the high accuracy of the 3D scan modeling. Also, quick surface method using 3D scanner is suggested a fast and accurate skill for ergonomics in obtaining the head modeling needed for military's personal bullet protection helmet design.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether extension of the custom base is necessary for enhancement of bond strength, by comparing the debonding forces and residual adhesives of 3 different lingual bracket systems. Methods: A total of 42 extracted upper premolars were randomly divided into 3 groups of 14 each for bonding with brackets having (1) a conventional limited resin custom base; (2) an extended gold alloy custom base: Incognito${TM}$; and (3) an extended resin custom base: KommonBase${TM}$. The bonding area was measured by scanning the bracket bases with a 3-dimensional digital scanner. The debonding force was measured with an Instron universal testing machine, which applied an occlusogingival shear force. Results: The mean debonding forces were 60.83 N (standard deviation [SD] 10.12), 69.29 N (SD 9.59), and 104.35 N (SD17.84) for the limited resin custom base, extended gold alloy custom base, and extended resin custom base, respectively. The debonding force observed with the extended resin custom base was significantly different from that observed with the other bases. In addition, the adhesive remnant index was significantly higher with the extended gold alloy custom base. Conclusions: All 3 custom-base lingual brackets can withstand occlusal and orthodontic forces. We conclude that effective bonding of lingual brackets can be obtained without extension of the custom base.

  • High quality three-dimensional (3D) heterostructures were constructed by selective area (SA) molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) using a specially patterned GaAs (001) substrate to improve the efficiency of tarrier transport. MBE growth parameters such as substrate temperature, V/III ratio, growth ratio, group V sources (As2, As4) were varied to calibrate the selective area growth conditions and the 3D GaAs-AlGaAs heterostructures were fabricated into the ridge type and the V-groove type. Scanning micro-photoluminescence $({\mu}-PL)$ measurements and the following analysis revealed that the gradually (adiabatically) coupled 1D-2DEG (electron gas) field effect transistor (FET) system was successfully realized. These 3D-heterostructures are expected to be useful for the realization of high-performance mesoscopic electronic devices and circuits since it makes it possible to form direct ohmic contact onto the (quasi) 1D electron channel.

  • In this paper, reaction of functionally graded (FG) thick nanoplates resting on a viscoelastic foundation to a moving nanoparticle/load is investigated. Nanoplate is assumed to be thick by using second order shear deformation theory and small-scale effects are taken into account in the framework of Eringen's nonlocal theory. Material properties are varied through the thickness using FG models by having power-law, sigmoid and exponential functions for material changes. FG nanoplate is assumed to be on a viscoelastic medium which is modeled using Kelvin-Voight viscoelastic model. Galerkin, state space and fourth-order Runge-Kutta methods are employed to solve the governing equations. A comprehensive parametric study is presetned to show the influence of different parameters on mechanical behavior of the system. It is shown that material variation in conjunction with nonlocal term have a significant effect on the dynamic deformation of nanoplate which could be used in comprehending and designing more efficient nanostructures. Moreover, it is shown that having a viscoelastic medium could play an important role in decreasing these dynamic deformations. With respect to the fresh studies on moving atoms, molecules, cells, nanocars, nanotrims and point loads on different nanosctructures using scanning tunneling microscopes (STM) and atomic force microscopes (AFM), this study could be a step forward in understanding, predicting and controlling such kind of behaviors by showing the influence of the moving path, velocity etc. on dynamic reaction of the plate.

  • Nitrogen-doped graphene was synthesized by a hydrothermal method using graphene oxide (GO) as the raw material, urea as the reducing agent and nitrogen as the dopant. The morphology, structure, composition and electrochemical properties of the samples are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis, electrical conductivity and electrochemical tests. The results show that urea can effectively reduce GO and achieve nitrogen doping under the hydrothermal conditions. By adjusting the mass ratio of raw materials to dopants, the graphene with different nitrogen doping contents can be obtained; the nitrogen content range is from 5.28~6.08% (atomic fraction percentage). When the ratio of dopant to urea is 1:30, the nitrogen doping content reaches a maximum of 6.08%.The supercapacitor performance test shows that the nitrogen content prepared by the ratio of 6.08% is the best at 0.1 A·g-1. The specific capacitance is 95.2 F·g-1.
