Study on the Optimization of LDD MOSFET (LDD MOSFET의 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • Optimization of the sub-micron N-channel MOSFET with the LDD(Lightly Doped Drain)structure has been investigated. LDD devices with various length of n-region, n-dose and n-implantation species were fabricated for this purpose. It will be shown that LDD devices have lower substrate current by an order of magnitude and higher breakdown voltage than the conventional devices with comparable channel length. Optimized LDD structure has been found when the sidewall thickness is 2500\ulcorner and n-region is phosphorus implantd with the dose of 1.0E13/cm\ulcorner It has been found that transconductance degradation is less than 20%.

  • In this study, we investigated the possibility of the application of the EzROBO system to direct shaping techniques which can make arbitrary shapes without any specific mold. We formed arbitrary shapes using raw materials of EH-260D (Epoxy+Binder) with the conditions of $250\mu\textrm{m}$ layer thickness, 0.2MPa working pressure, 20mm/sec working velocity, and 1.8mm needle thickness. The developed Spatial Printing Technique showed enhanced working velocity and lower cost than existing 3DP process, and is expected to replace the existing process through the process optimization in the future.

  • Cu metallization using electrochemical plating(ECP) has played an important role in back end of line(BEOL) interconnect formation. In this work, we studied the optimized copper thickness using Bottom-up Gap-fill in Cu ECP, which is closely related with the pattern dependencies in Cu ECP and Cu dual damascene process at 0.13 ${\mu}m$ technology node. In order to select an optimized Cu ECP thickness, we examined Cu ECP bulge, Cu CMP dishing and electrical properties of via hole and line trench over dual damascene patterned wafers split into different ECP Cu thickness.

  • In the present study, an aerodynamic design optimization of UAV rotor blades was conducted using a genetic algorithm(GA) coupled with computational fluid dynamics(CFD). To reduce computational cost in making databases, a function approximation was applied using artificial neural networks(ANN) based on a radial basis function network. Three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) solver was used to solve the flow around UAV rotor blades. Design directions were specified to maximize thrust coefficient maintaining torque coefficient and minimize torque coefficient maintaining thrust coefficient. Design variables such as twist angle, thickness and chord length were adopted to perform a planform optimization. As a result of an optimization regarding to maximizing thrust coefficient, thrust coefficient was increased about 4.5% than base configuration. In case of an optimization minimizing torque coefficient, torque coefficient was decreased about 7.4% comparing with base configuration.

  • In the management of groundwater in coastal areas, saltwater intrusion associated with extensive groundwater pumping, is an important problem. The groundwater optimization model is an advanced method to study the aquifer and decide the optimal pumping rates or optimal well locations. Cheng and Park gave the analytical solutions to the optimization problems basing on Strack's analytical solution. However, the analytical solutions have some limitations of the property of aquifer, boundary conditions, and so on. A simulation-optimization numerical method presented in this study can deal with non-homogenous aquifers and various complex boundary conditions. This simulation-optimization model includes the sharp interface solution which solves the same governing equation with Strack's analytical solution, therefore, the freshwater head and saltwater thickness should be in the same conditions, that can lead to the comparable results in optimal pumping rates and optimal well locations for both of the solutions. It is noticed that the analytical solutions can only be applied on the infinite domain aquifer, while it is impossible to get a numerical model with infinite domain. To compare the numerical model with the analytical solutions, calculation of the equivalent boundary flux was planted into the numerical model so that the numerical model can have the same conditions in steady state with analytical solutions.

  • The main functions of excavator are mainly carried out by excavator attachments such as arm and boom. These components should be designed to be light as well as durable enough because their effects on the whole structure are significant. In this paper, an optimization procedure for lightweight design considering fatigue strength for excavator attachments is presented. The weight of attachments and allowable fatigue stresses at critical areas are used as objective function and constraints, respectively, in which design variables are the thickness of the plates of attachments. The simulated annealing search method is adopted for a global optimization solution. Besides, the response surface method using the artificial neural network is used to simulate constraint function for the sake of practical fast calculation. Some example case of optimization is presented here for a sample excavator. This weight optimization is expected to contribute to a considerable improvement of fuel efficiency of excavator.

  • This paper presents an optimization procedure for performance improvement of a tunnel ventilation jet fan. Optimization techniques based on response surface approximation (RSA) are employed to improve the aerodynamic performance of a tunnel ventilation jet fan. For numerical analysis, three-dimensional Renolds- averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with shear stress transport turbulence model are discretized by using finite volume approximations and solved on hexahedral grids to evaluate the total efficiency at the operating condition as the objective function. Four geometric variables defining the meridional length and the thickness profile at the hub and shroud in the jet fan rotor are selected as design variables for the numerical optimization. The results of the numerical optimization show that the total efficiency of the optimized model is significantly improved in comparison with the base model.

  • A Computational code has been developed in order to design axial fans by the numerical optimization techniques incorporated with flow analysis code solving three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation. The steepest descent method and the conjugate gradient method are used to look for the search direction in the design space, and the golden section method is used for one-dimensional search. To solve the constrained optimization problem, sequential unconstrained minimization technique, SUMT, is used with imposed quadratic extended interior penalty functions. In the optimization of two-dimensional cascade design, the ratio of drag coefficient to lift coefficient is minimized by the design variables such as maximum thickness, maximum ordinate of camber and chord wise position of maximum ordinate. In the application of this numerical optimization technique to the design of an axial fan, the efficiency is maximized by the design variables related to the sweep angle distributed by quadratic function along the hub to tip of fan.

  • The coupling between different models for MDO (Multi-disciplinary Optimization) greatly increases the complexity of the computational framework, while at the same time increasing CPU time and memory usage. To overcome these difficulties, POD (Proper Orthogonal Decomposition) and RBF (Radial Basis Function) are used to solve the optimization problem of determining the thickness of composites and sandwich cores when composite sandwich structures are used as aircraft wing skin materials. POD and RBF are used to construct surrogate models for the wing shape and the load data. Optimization is performed using the objective function and constraint function values which are obtained from the surrogate models.

Optimization Process of Type 4 Composite Pressure Vessels Using Genetic and Simulated Annealing Algorithm (유전 알고리즘 및 담금질 기법을 활용한 Type 4 복합재료 압력용기 최적화 프로세스)

  • In this study, we conducted a design optimization of the Type 4 composite pressure vessels to enhance the pressure-resistant performance of the vessels while keeping the thickness of the composite layer. The design variables for the optimization were the stacking angles of the helical layers of the vessels to improve the performance. Since the carbon fibers are expensive material, it is desirable to reduce the use of the carbon fibers by applying an optimal design of the composite pressure vessel. The structural analysis and optimization process for the design of Type 4 composite pressure vessels were carried out using a commercial finite element analysis software, Abaqus and a plug-in for automated simulation, Isight, respectively. The optimization results confirmed the performance and safety of the optimized Type 4 composite pressure vessels was enhanced by 12.84% compared to the initial design.
