  • The magnetic properties of ultrathin $Fe_{84}B_{9}Nb_{7}$ nanocrystalline ribbon alloy with the thickness of $7-14\;\mu\textrm{m}$ were investigated. It was found that the effective permeability at the frequency over 100 kHz increased with decreasing ribbon thickness. Moreover the core loss decreased considerably with reduction of the ribbon thickness. The effective permeability at 1 MHz and the core loss at 1 MHz and 0.1 T for $Fe_{84}B_{9}Nb_{7}$ alloy with the thickness of $7\;\mu\textrm{m}$ were 3,700 and 2.7 W/cc, respectively. The reduction of thickness to less than $10\;\mu\textrm{m}$ was found to be very effective in obtaining high permeability and low core loss in the MHz frequency range. It was considered that the improvement of magnetic properties in the high frequency range was due to the reduction of the eddy current.

  • Alopecia is usually presented as patchy, no scarring hair loss. It seems to be a hormonal imbalance or an immune mediated disease, whereas genetic predisposition, environmental and psychological factors may be involved in its etiology. Many treatments of alopecia disease have been widely applied, but their side effects are also well known. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate efficacy and safety of a food supplement containing medicinal plant extracts, amino acid and vitamin complex on the prevention of hair loss in human. A total of 20 subjects aged between 29-50 years with subjective hair loss complaint were recruited for this study. Each subject took 1 g/day supplement for 3 months. 5-Scale self-assessment test, hair loss count and measurement of hair thickness were conducted to evaluate the effect of supplement on the improvement of hair loss. Subjective hair loss was decreased and hair damage and thickness were improved in self-assessment test. After 3 months of supplementation, hair loss counts were decreased (P<0.05) while hair thickness was increased(P<0.001) significantly. There was no side effect observed during the study. These results suggest that the supplement consist of medicinal plant extracts, amino acid and vitamin complex might be useful for the improvement of hair loss with no significant side effects.

  • This research presents an investigation on the thermal buckling resistance of FGM plates having parabolic-concave thickness variation exposed to uniform and gradient temperature change. An analytical formulation is derived and the governing differential equation of thermal stability is solved numerically using finite difference method. A specific function of thickness variation is introduced where it controls the parabolic variation intensity of the thickness without changing the original material volume. The results indicated that the loss ratio in buckling resistance is the same for any gradient temperature profile. Influencing geometrical and material parameters on the loss ratio in the thermal resistance buckling are investigated which may help in design guidelines of such complex structures.

  • In this paper Statistical Energy Analysis has been considered to predict high frequency air borne interior noise. Dash panel Insulation is major part to reduce engine excitation noise. Transmission loss and absorption coefficient are considered to predict dash insulation performance. Transmission lose is derived from coupling loss factor and absorption coefficient is derived from internal damping loss factor. Material Biot properties were used to calculate each loss factors. Insulation geometry thickness distribution was hard to measure, so FeGate software was used to calculate thickness map from CAD drawing. Each predicted transmission losses between conventional insulation and light weight insulation were compared with SEA. Transmission loss measurement was performed to validate each prediction result, and it showed good correlation between prediction and measurement. Finally interior noise prediction was performed and result showed light weight insulation system can reduce 40% weight to keep similar performance with conventional insulation system, even though light weigh insulation system has lower sound transmission loss and higher absorption coefficient than conventional system.

  • A geometrically asymmetric trapezoidal fin is analyzed using the one-dimensional analytic method. Heat loss and thermal resistance are represented as a function of the fin base thickness, base height, fm shape factor, inside fluid convection characteristic number, convection characteristic numbers ratio, fm length and ambient convection characteristic number. The relationship between the fin base height and the shape factor for equal amounts of heat loss is presented. One of the results shows that the variations of the fm base thickness and the inside fluid convection characteristic number give no effect on the thermal resistance.

  • A rectangular fin with a fluid in the inside wall is analyzed and optimized using a two-dimensional analytical method. The influence of the fluid convection characteristic number in the inside wall and the fin base thickness on the fin base temperature is listed. For the fixed fin volumes, the maximum heat loss and the corresponding optimum fin effectiveness and dimensions as a function of the fin base thickness, convection characteristic numbers ratio, convection characteristic number over the fin, fluid convection characteristic number in the inside wall, and the fin volume are represented. One of the results shows that both the optimum heat loss and the corresponding fin effectiveness increase as the fin base thickness decreases.

  • In this paper, influence factors on dynamic properties of floor impact noise insulation materials are suggested. For this purpose measurements on the dynamic stiffness and the loss factor of resilient materials are carried out by Korea standard (KS F 2868) according to the change of density, thickness, design pattern, and composition of materials. As a result the values of dynamic stiffness was decreased at high density and thick thickness, and that of loss factor was increased at low density. For dynamic properties, the pattern of lattice and waffle type material is better than that of plat type, and the mixed composition of materials is better than the composition of double layer materials at same thickness.

  • The reflection and transmission coefficients of waves due to perforated wall are mainly determined by both the porosity and wall thickness of the perforated wall and the period and nonlinearity of incident waves. Among them the wall thickness is very important because it affects the head loss coefficient and the inertia length of the wall. However, by employing the head loss coefficient derived for sharp crested orifice, the previous researches have neglected, or incorrectly considered the effect of wall thickness on the head loss coefficient. Even though it is considered, the effect of the inertia length is neglected in some empirical formulae. Thus, the effect of wall thickness on the reflection and transmission coefficients of waves is not properly considered. In this study comprehensive experiments are conducted for the perforated walls with various thicknesses, and the results are compared with those predicted by the empirical formulae. As a result it is found that the existing formulae can not properly consider the effect of wall thickness, and it is confirmed that a new formula which can correctly consider the effect of wall thickness on the head loss coefficient is necessary.

  • Thin-gauged 3% silicon steel sheets having a highly grain-oriented texture have been developed as a core material for applications of middle-frequency (400 Hz ${\sim}$ 10 kHz) devices. The newly developed sheets with a tension coating showed an excellent reduction in iron loss at 400 Hz (iron loss at 1.0 T and 400 Hz = 4.677 W/kg, iron loss at 1.5 T and 400 Hz = 9.742 W/kg) due to high magnetic induction, $B_{10}$(measured induction at 1000 A/m), of over 1.9 T. In cases of frequencies below 400 Hz, magnetic induction, $B_{10}$, of the sample plays a major role to reduce its iron loss as excitation induction increases, whereas, in case of frequency of 1 kHz, thickness dependence becomes dominant due to a lower iron loss at relatively thinner sample. The sheets with a high magnetic induction, therefore, are favorable for high excitation induction (over 1.0 T) and low excitation frequency (below 400 Hz) applications, whereas the sheets that can reduce eddy current loss by reducing thickness or domain wall width are advantageous for low excitation induction (below 1.0 T) and high excitation frequency (around 1 kHz) applications.

  • In the present study extensisve numerical experiments are conducted using the CFD code, FLUENT, to investigate the energy dissipation due to perforated walls for various wall-thickness and flow conditions. A new empirical formula for energy loss coefficient considering the effect of the thickness of perforated wall is obtained based on the results of computational experiments. It is found that the energy loss coefficient decreases as the wall-thickness increases and the maximum coefficient reduction reaches upto 40% of the value calculated using the conventional formulas for the sharp-crested orifice. To check the validity of the new formula the reflection coefficient of waves due to perforated wall is evaluated and compared with the results of existing theories and hydraulic experiments. The result shows that the new formula is superior to the conventional ones.
