Test of extended thick-walled through-diaphragm connection to thick-walled CFT column

  • The strength and stiffness of the steel beams to concrete-filled tubular columns connections are significantly reduced if the thick-walled components are used. However, the thick-walled tubes used for columns can largely reduce the demand for space and increase the strength-to-weight ratio. This paper describes the cyclic performance of extended through-diaphragm connections between steel beams and thick-walled concrete-filled tubular columns improved with fillets around the diaphragm corners. Test on one full-scale connection was conducted to assess the seismic behavior of the connection in terms of strength, stiffness, ductility, deformation, energy dissipation, and strain distribution. It is shown that the fillets and extended through-diaphragm can alleviate the stress concentration in the connection and thus improve the seismic performance. The test results demonstrate that the through-diaphragm connections with thick-walled concrete-filled tubular columns can offer sufficient energy dissipation capacity and ductility appropriate for its potential application in seismic design.

오토클레이브 성형된 길이 23m 복합재 철도차량 차체의 구조적 특성평가 (Structural Safety Evaluation of An Autoclave Cured Train Carbody with Length of 23m)

  • This paper explains manufacturing process and experimental studies on a composite carbody of Korean tilting train. The composite carbody with length of 23m was manufactured as a sandwich structure composed of a 40mm-thick aluminium honeycomb core and 5mm-thick woven fabric carbon/epoxy face. In order to evaluate structural behavior and safety of the composite carbody, the static load tests such as vertical load, end compressive load, torsional load and 3-point support load tests have been conducted. These tests were performed under Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) 17105 standard. From the tests, maximum deflection was 12.3mm and equivalent bending stiffness of the carbody was 0.81$\times$10$^{14}$ kgf$\cdot$mm$^{2}$ Maximum stress of the composite body was lower than 12.2$\%$ of strength of the carbon/epoxy. Therefore, the composite body satisfied the Japanese Industrial Standard.

등가물성을 이용한 복합재 이탈피의 구조해석 (Analysis of Composite Sabot Structure using Equivalent Properties)

  • This paper deals with the analysis of composite sabot of APFSDS projectile. Unlike conventional composite parts, the sabot is composed of thick-sectioned lamination, and thus requires 3-dimensional properties in the analysis. In this study, a model was formulated to calculate the equivalent composites properties. The equivalent properties were then used in the finite element analysis and the results were compared with those by the full 3-dimensional analysis with ply-by-ply modeling. The results generally agreed with each other in the bound of 20% error, indicating that the formulated model produced the equivalent properties with reasonable accuracy. It was thought to be an efficient approach to use the model in global analysis and then perform the full 3-dimensional analysis in regions of interest for detailed evaluation in designing the composite sabot structure.

해저환경에 따른 두께가 두꺼운 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재의 파괴인성에 대한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study on the fracture toughness of thick carbon/epoxy composite in the deep-sea environment)

  • It is well-known that the corrosive behavior of PMC (polymer matrix composite) structure is much better than the metal structure in the marine environment. The understanding of fracture behavior of PMC in the deep-sea environment is essential to expand its use in the marine industry. For a present study, fracture tests have been performed under four different pressure levels such as 0.1 MPa, 100 MPa, 200 MPa, and 270 MPa using the seawater-absorbed carbon/epoxy composite samples. Fracture toughness was determined from the work factor approach as a function of hydrostatic pressure. It was found that fracture behavior was a linear elastic for all pressure levels. The fracture toughness increased with increasing pressure.

적층 시퀀스 데이터베이스를 이용한 복합재 날개 구조물의 최적화 설계 (Optimal Design of Thick Composite Wing Structure using Laminate Sequence Database)

  • 본 논문에서 제시한 복합재 날개 구조물의 최적설계 기법은 파손모드를 통합한 최적화 프레임 웍을 사용하여 복합재 날개 구조물의 안전율을 자동으로 계산한다. 개발된 최적화 프레임 웍은 복합재 구조물의 설계요소에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 파손모드 즉, 최초 파손모드, 좌굴 파손 모드 및 베어링-바이패스 파손을 확인하여 구축된 적층 데이터베이스 안에서 적층수를 찾아낸다. 이는 개발과정에서 수정 및 반복되는 설계 및 해석 시간을 단축시킬 수 있는 효과가 있다. 설계변수는 계단형태로 이루어진 적층 데이터베이스이며 응답은 변형률, 좌굴, 볼트 주변부의 응력장이며 목적함수는 날개구조의 질량이다. 그리고 최적화 프레임 윅을 구동하는 Composite Optimizer의 해석결과를 검증하기 위하여 유한요소모델의 좌굴해석 결과와 비교하여 유효성을 검증하였다.

  • This study was performed the heat transportation ratio of three types of the following sandwich panel by KS F 2278(2003) ; Type ${\sharp}1$ : Carbon/epoxy Aluminum Honeycomb and Balsa Core Sandwich Panel(Thickness : 37mm), Type ${\sharp}2$ : Carbon/epoxy Aluminum Honeycomb Core Sandwich Panel(Thickness : 57mm), and Type ${\sharp}3$ : Carbon/epoxy Aluminum Honeycomb Core Sandwich Panel(Thickness : 37mm). Also was performed the heat transportation of next three types of the following sandwich panel by KS F2277(2002) ; Type ${\sharp}4$ and ${\sharp}5$ : 27mm, and 35mm thick-Aluminum Honeycomb Sandwich Panels, and Type ${\sharp}6$ : 27mm thick-Foaming Aluminum Sandwich Panel. It is the larger area between the skin and core, the heat transportation ratio is the higher, and when it is composed of the hybrid composite structure, good insulation property was shown.

헬리콥터 착륙장치를 위한 복합재 토크링크의 설계에 대한 연구 (Study on design of the composite torque link for a landing gear system of a helicopter)

  • 본 논문에서는 헬리콥터 착륙장치를 위한 복합재료 토크링크를 개발하기 위한 설계 기법을 제시하였다. 복합재 토크링크는 헬리콥터 착륙장치의 충격흡수부의 정렬을 위해 장착되는 장치로서 가벼우면서도 강성이 커서 외부하중에 대해 최소의 변형량을 가져야 한다. 또 가격적인 측면을 고려한 복합재 구조물 제조 공정(RTM: 수지충전공정)이 반영되어 대량생산이 가능한 구조 및 형태를 가져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 복합재 구조물 제조 공정과 동일한 공정으로 시편을 제작하여 설계에 필요한 기계적 특성을 얻었으며, 유한요소해석을 통하여 복합재 토크링크에 대한 최적 형상설계를 수행하였다. Lug 형태를 가지는 두꺼운 복합재료 구조물인 복합재료 토크링크의 설계를 위해서는 ABAQUS의 3D Layered Solid 요소로 구성된 유한요소모델을 활용하여 복합재료의 두께방향을 포함한 강도해석을 수행하였으며, Rigid-Deform 구속조건의 접촉문제를 고려한 비선형 정적 해석을 반복적으로 수행하여 주어진 정강도 요구조건을 만족시키는 복합재 토크링크를 설계하였다.

전투용 차량의 경량화 최적설계 기법 연구 (Minimum Weight Design Method for Infantry Fighting Vehicles Hull using Thick Composite Laminate)

  • In this paper, general design process for Tracked Fighting Vehicle has been suggested. Stress analysis and optimal design for ply angle of IFV's composite upper hull has been calculated using KMA CIFV and it is contained exploratory development of design process. In this point, this paper applied composite to IFV's upper hull. Finite element mesh has been made using Matlab program, and we have analyzed stress based on the given material properties and ply arrangement. For each load condition, load distribution in plane and failure index are calculated by using Tasi-Hill criterion, which is composite failure criterion and analyzing change of failure index as change of ply angle. Finally, optimal ply angles of upper hull are calculated using KMA CIFV. We can estimate the decrease of weight for IFV's upper hull.

Vibration and mode shape analysis of sandwich panel with MWCNTs FG-reinforcement core

  • The goal of this study is to fill this apparent gap in the area about vibration analysis of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) curved panels by providing 3-D vibration analysis results for functionally graded multiwalled carbon nanotubes (FG-MWCNTs) sandwich structure with power-law distribution of nanotube. The effective material properties of the FG-MWCNT structures are estimated using a modified Halpin-Tsai equation. Modified Halpin-Tsai equation was used to evaluate the Young's modulus of MWCNT/epoxy composite samples by the incorporation of an orientation as well as an exponential shape factor in the equation. The exponential shape factor modifies the Halpin-Tsai equation from expressing a straight line to a nonlinear one in the MWCNTs wt% range considered. Also, the mass density and Poisson's ratio of the MWCNT/phenolic composite are considered based on the rule of mixtures. Parametric studies are carried out to highlight the influence of MWCNT volume fraction in the thickness, different types of CNT distribution, boundary conditions and geometrical parameters on vibrational behavior of FG-MWCNT thick curved panels. Because of using two-dimensional generalized differential quadrature method, the present approach makes possible vibration analysis of cylindrical panels with two opposite axial edges simply supported and arbitrary boundary conditions including Free, Simply supported and Clamped at the curved edges. For an overall comprehension on 3-D vibration analysis of sandwich panel, some mode shape contour plots are reported in this research work.

하이브리드 복합재 철도차량 차체에 대한 시험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Hybrid Composite Carbody Structure)

  • 본 논문에서는 하이브리드 복합재 틸팅차량 차체에 대한 시험적 연구를 수행하였다. 시험에 적용된 하이브리드 복합재 틸팅차량 차체는 길이가 23m이며 40mm두께의 알루미늄 하니콤 코어와 2mm의 직조된 탄소/에폭시 면재로 구성된 샌드위치 구조물이다. 하이브리드 복합재 틸팅차량 차체의 구조적 거동과 안전성을 규명하기 위해 수직하중- 차단압축하중, 비틀림하중 및 3점지지 하중조건하에서 정적인 하중시험을 수행하였다. 시험은 JIS E 7105규격에 근거하여 수행되었다. 시험을 통해 수직하중하에서 최대처짐은 최대 12.3mm이며 굽힘강성은 $0.81\times10^{14}\;kgf{\cdot}mm^2$로 도시철도차량성능기준을 만족하고 있었다. 또한 강도 측면에서도 탄소/에폭시 면재의 파단변형률의 $20\%$ 이내로 안전도를 만족하였다.
