This paper summarizes a design procedure of radiated noise from engine blocks of marine engines. This air-borne noise is one of the significant noise contributors including the aeroacoustic noise due to intake and exhaust and the re-radiation due to structure-borne noise. Excitation forces by engine operations are evaluated taking into account the power generation mechanism from the burning process to the subsequence motion of internal parts; piston, connecting rod, and crank shaft. The acoustic transfer vector method is incorporated to effectively simulate the radiated noise field under the various operation conditions. A contribution analysis for the various excitations to the radiated noise is conducted. It is found that the firing pressure is the main source of the radiated noise, and so the structure of the cylinder can be modified to significantly reduce the radiated noise from the engine block.
This study measured the relative displacements of the five-unit fixed partial dentures as cast with the same fixed partial dentures sectioned and assembled by investment-soldering, solder-ing stand-soldering, and cast-joining techniques A total of fifteen specimens using a type IV gold alloy were one-piece cast as control and then sectioned and assembled five test specimens for each method were prepared. A computerized three dimensional coordinate measuring machine and specially designed cylinder for this study were used. Displacement was defined by six displacement variables for the each of cylinders incorporated in each casting: three component displacements(${\Delta}Lx,\;{\Delta}Ly,\;and\;{\Delta}Lz$) and rotational displacements(${\Delta}{\theta}x,\;{\Delta}{\theta}y,\;{\Delta}{\theta}z$). The global displacement was computed using the mathematical formula ${\Delta}R$ = Global displacement =$\sqrt{{(x'-x)}^2+{(y'-y)}^2+{(z'-z)}^2}$ Under the conditions of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. The investment-soldering group showed the largest mean value of final global displacements, followed by stand-soldering group, cast-joining group and one-piece cast group. However, between the mean values of final global displacement for the cast-joining group and one-piece cast group, there was no significant difference. 2. For investment-soldering and stand-soldering groups, the greater global displacements were recorded in soldering phase than in indexing or investing phase. 3. For one-piece cast group, the displacements occured mostly in the casting phase. And for cast-joining group, there was no significant difference in global displacements among the fabricating procedures. 4. Intercentroidal distance decreased in framework-patterning, solder-indexing, solder-standing, and soldering phases, but increased in investment block-investing and casting phases. 5 Specially designed cylinder for touch-trigger type coordinate measuring machine was validated.
Objectives : This study aimed to assess the effects of incense smokes of 'Cheung-Woon' on the concentration and EEG in healthy individuals. Methods : A total of 48 healthy volunteers participated in this study. The volunteers were examined with K-MAS, CBT(Corsi block tapping task), and EEG before and after smelling the incense smokes of 'Cheung-Woon'. K-MAS measured the recalled words, and CBT measured the recalled positions and orders of the color boxes. EEG measured the relative power of ${\theta}$ wave, ${\alpha}$ wave, SMR wave, mid-${\beta}$ wave, high-${\beta}$ wave, ${\gamma}$ wave and T(concentraion index T = (SMR wave + mid-${\beta}$ wave) / ${\theta}$ wave). 'Cheung-Woon' consists of 7 herbal powder, known as a useful effect on the concentration and memory. Results : After smelling 'Cheung-Woon', K-MAS were increased significantly(p<0.05). In relative power of ${\theta}$ wave, F4, T3, and P4 were decreased significantly(p<0.05) and P3 was also decreased significantly(p<0.01). In the relative power of ${\alpha}$ wave, SMR wave, and mid-${\beta}$ wave, the values were not significant. In the relative power of high-${\beta}$ wave, Fp1, and P4 were increased significantly(p<0.05). In relative power of ${\gamma}$ wave, T3 were increased significantly (p<0.05). In T value, F4, T3, T4, and P4 were increased significantly(p<0.05) and P3 were also increased significantly(p<0.01). Conclusions : This results show that smelling incense smokes of 'Cheung-Woon' is an effective way of increasing concentration and memory.

In this paper, a ground disturbance effects, strength and consolidation characteristics of soft clay through using the large block samples($\theta$:300mm, H:400mm) and the piston samples, f hose which had been gathered in west coast and south coast. Especially, we have assessed the coefficient of horizontal consolidation when penetrating the mandrel considering the variance of ratio between diameter and height in drainage sample through the experiment of the oedometer test and Rowecell and also investigated the disturbance area in smear zone by interior model test, the strength originated by disturbance, the variance in characteristics of the consolidation. As the result, the large block sample has been investigated that ihe uniaxial compression test(qu) was shown bigger than the piston sample by about 11-19%. Under the size of anistropy in consolidation, the coefficient ratio of consolidation(ch/cv,) perfomed by standard consolidation test(SC) was shown bigger than that of (Cro/Cv) by the Rowecell test. And the coefficient ratio of consolidation(Cro/Cv) perfomed by piston sample was evaluated bigger than that Of (Cro/Cv) by the large block sample by about 0.9-1.9. The coefficient ratio of consolidation along with the variance in ratio of between diameter and height when penetrating the mandrel was shown big difference according to the characteristics of soil of the specimen. In addition, ds/dw of smear zone at the marine clay in west-south was ranged from 1.6 to 4.2. The width of variance in rat io[(qud)/(quud)] of strength n the area between disturbance and undisturbance was shown big as about 72-91% but the principle was judged with the similiar range when the decrease of the strength in smear zone become the zone under 25% in unditurbance area.

The sympathetic nerve block improves the blood flow in the innervated regions. For this region, the sympathetic nerve block has been performed in the neural and cerebral disorders. However, the cerebral blood flow regulation of the cranial cervical ganglion block in dogs have not been well defined and the correlation to the changes in the cerebral circulation and the changes in the electroencephalogram is not well defined in dogs yet. Therefore, we investigated the hypothesis that changes in the EEG could be affected by the changes in cerebral blood flow following the cranial cervical ganglion block in dogs. Twenty five beagle dogs were divided into 3 groups; group I(LCCGB, n=10) underwent left sided cranial cervical ganglion block using the 1% lidocaine, group II(L, n=10) injected the 1% lidocaine into the right or left sided digastricus muscle, group III(N/SCCGB, n=5, served as control) underwent the left sided cranial cervical ganglion block using saline. A statistical difference was not found between the control group and the LCCGB group in the 95% spectral edge frequency(SEF) and the median frequency(MF). In the relative band power, the $\delta$ frequency was decreased during 5-25 min, while the $\alpha$ frequency was increased during the same time(p<0.05). But the $\theta$ frequency and the $\beta$ frequency were not shown the significant changes compared with the control group during the same time(p<0.05). These results suggest that the left cranial cervical ganglion block does not induce the change of the cerebral blood flow and its effect is insignificant.

The model was developed by applying the principles of Bacot and Vidal to measure the behavior of deformation of the reinforced earth wall, and various tasts were performed by using the plastic fabric filter and the galvanized steel plate as a strip. The results obtained are as follows; 1. When the reinforced earth wall is deformed by the load, the strip is completely reinforced by the backfill materials and changed to the rigid block state, under the state of failure which permits sliding only, the next theoretical equation is formed. (H/L) . tan$\theta$ [cosO-sinOtanO] =2sinO[tan($\theta$ +0) +tanO] 2.The degree of the mutual reinforcement of the backfill material and the strip depend on the physical characteristics of the each material especially the angle of shearing resistance of the backfill material is desirable over 20$^{\circ}$ and, if it is over 400, its function could be a maximum. 3.The distribution of the maximum tensile strain of the reinforcement is changing with the height of reinforced earth wall, and when the height from bottom of the reinforced earth wall is 1.85 to 3. 35m, the maximum tensile strain appears at 2m from the skin element. The maximum tensile strain is increased by the depth of the reinforced earth wall from surface, and increased with the lapse of time after construction. 4.The failure surface of the reinforced earth wall by the concrete skin was about 60$^{\circ}$and the failure behavior of the reinforced earth wall in which the fabric filter was buried was slow, and so the pore pressure could be decreased. 5.It is possible to construct the fabric retained earth wall by the plastic fabric filter only. And the reinforcing effect between the steel plate and the plastic fabric filter is not largely different. however, in the aspect of the economic durability, the plastic fabric filter is more advantageous. 6.The reinforcing action mainly depends on the width and the length of the reinforcing materials, if possible, the full width is advantageous to enlarge the contact area with backfill. but considering the economic aspect, it is neccessary to develop the method controlling the space of the strip.
In a solar coronagraph, the most important component is an occulter to block the direct light from the disk of the sun. Because the intensity of the solar outer corona is $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-10}$ times of that of the solar disk ($I_{\odot}$), it is necessary to minimize scattering at the optical elements and diffraction at the occulter. Using a Fourier optic simulation and a stray light test, we investigated the performance of a compact coronagraph that uses an external truncated-cone occulter without an internal occulter and Lyot stop. In the simulation, the diffracted light was minimized to the order of $7.6{\times}10^{-10}I_{\odot}$ when the cone angle ${\theta}_c$ was about $0.39^{\circ}$. The performance of the cone occulter was then tested by experiment. The level of the diffracted light reached the order of $6{\times}10^{-9}I_{\odot}$ at ${\theta}_c=0.40^{\circ}$. This is sufficient to observe the outer corona without additional optical elements such as a Lyot stop or inner occulter. We also found the manufacturing tolerance of the cone angle to be $0.05^{\circ}$, the lateral alignment tolerance was $45{\mu}m$, and the angular alignment tolerance was $0.043^{\circ}$. Our results suggest that the physical size of coronagraphs can be shortened significantly by using a cone occulter.

Purpose: The target volume for the three field technique in breast cancer include the breast tangential and supraclavicular areas. The techniques rotating the gantry and couch angles, to match these two areas, will geometrically produce mismatching of the posterior edge between the medial and lateral tangential beams. This mismatch was confirmed by film dosimetry and three-dimensional computer planning. The correction methods of this mismatching were studied in this article. Materials and Methods: After the supraclavicular field was simulated using a half beam block and the medial and lateral tangential fields, by the rotation of the couch and gantry, we compared the following two methods to correct the mismatch. The first method was the rotation of coillmator until a line drawn on the posterior edge of tangential beams before the rotation of couch aligned the line drawn on the posterior edge after the rotation. The second method was the rotation of collimator according to the formula developed by the author as follows; Co=$2sin^{-1}${$sin\{theta}\{cdot}sin(C/2)$} (Co: collimator angle, $\theta$: angle between tangential beam and table, C: couch angle) Results: The film dosimetry showed the mismatching of posterior edges of the medial and lateral tangential fields prior to the rotation of collimator, while the posterior edges matched well after the rotation of collimator according to the formula. The three-dimensional computer plan also showed that the posterior edges matched well after the rotation of collimator accordingly. The DVH of the ipsilateral lung with the proper rotation of collimator angle was better than that without the rotation of collimator angle. Conclusion: The mismatching of the posterior edges of the medial and lateral tangential fields can be recognized on the three fileld technique in breast irradiation when the gantry and couch are simultaneously rotated and can be corrected with the proper rotation of the collimator angle. The radiation dose to the ipsilateral lung could be lowered with this technique.

If a general nonlinear system is linearized by the successive multiplication of the 1st and 2nd order systems, then there are four types of poles in this linearized system: the pole of the 1st order system and the equal poles, two distinct real poles, and complex conjugate pair of poles of the 2nd order system. Linear Quadratic (LQ) control is a method of designing a control law that minimizes the quadratic performance index. It has the advantage of ensuring the stability of the system and the pole placement of the root of the system by weighted matrix adjustment. LQ control by the weighted matrix can move the position of the pole of the system arbitrarily, but it is difficult to set the weighting matrix by the trial and error method. This problem can be solved using the characteristic equations of the Hamiltonian system, and if the control weighting matrix is a symmetric matrix of constants, it is possible to move several poles of the system to the desired closed loop poles by applying the control law repeatedly. The paper presents a method of calculating the state weighting matrix and the control law for moving the equal poles with Jordan blocks to two real poles using the characteristic equation of the Hamiltonian system. We express this characteristic equation with a state weighting matrix by means of a trigonometric function, and we derive the relation function (${\rho},\;{\theta}$) between the equal poles and the state weighting matrix under the condition that the two real poles are the roots of the characteristic equation. Then, we obtain the moving-range of the two real poles under the condition that the state weighting matrix becomes a positive semi-finite matrix. We calculate the state weighting matrix and the control law by substituting the two real roots selected in the moving-range into the relational function. As an example, we apply the proposed method to a simple example 3rd order system.
The goal of radiation treatment is to deliver a prescribed radiation dose to the target volume accurately while minimizing dose to normal tissues. Due to inaccurate placement of field and shielding block and patient's movement, there could be displacement errors between the planed and treatment regions. In order to verify the location of radiation treatment, we in this study developed the registration algorithm of the x-ray simulator images and portal images and quantified the inaccuracy in terms of shift, scale and rotation. The algorithm for registration of pairs of radiation fields consists of the alignment of pairs of radiation images by points matching and field displacement analysis by field boundary matching. In the first step, paired surface landmarks are matched to calculate the transformation parameters (scale, rotation and shift) using the corresponding line pairs which are created by connecting two landmarks of each image. In the next step, portal field boundary is extracted and then the two field boundaries are matched by the $\rho$-$\theta$ technique. Applying the phantom portal images, detection errors were calculated to be less than 2mm in translation, 1$^{\circ}$ in rotation and 1% in scale. In conclusion, we quantitatively analyzed the displacement error of x-ray simulator images and portal images. The present results could contribute to the study of the radiation treatment verification.
