Background: Accuracy in feature extraction is an important factor in image classification and retrieval. In this paper, a breast tissue density classification and image retrieval model is introduced for breast cancer detection based on thermographic images. The new method of thermographic image analysis for automated detection of high tumor risk areas, based on two-directional two-dimensional principal component analysis technique for feature extraction, and a support vector machine for thermographic image retrieval was tested on 400 images. The sensitivity and specificity of the model are 100% and 98%, respectively.
We report a case of neurilemmoma of deep peroneal nerve sensory branch that triggered sensory change with compression test on lower extremity. After resection of tumor, there are evoked thermal changes on pre- and post-operative infrared (IR) thermographic images. A 52-year-old female presented with low back pain, sciatica, and sensory change on the dorsal side of the right foot and big toe that has lasted for 9 months. She also presented with right tibial mass sized 1.2 cm by 1.4 cm. Ultrasonographic imaging revealed a peripheral nerve sheath tumor arising from the peroneal nerve. IR thermographic image showed hyperthermia when the neurilemoma induced sensory change with compression test on the fibular area, dorsum of foot, and big toe. After surgery, the symptoms and thermographic changes were relieved and disappeared. The clinical, surgical, radiographic, and thermographic perspectives regarding this case are discussed.
This study describes the results of experiment and numerical analysis for heating image by thermographic method when the size of void in concrete are changed. By comparing analytical solution by finite element method with measured image by thermography, the relationships between the surface temperature which can be confirmed by this method, the size of void and optimum time for detection of void and the difference of temperature are cleared.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are high fever, cough, headache, and fever. These symptoms may vary from person to person, but checking for "fever" is the government's most basic measure. To confirm this, many facilities use thermographic cameras. Since the previously developed thermographic camera measures body temperature one by one, it takes a lot of time to measure body temperature in places where many people enter and exit, such as multi-use facilities. In order to prevent malfunctions and errors and to prevent sensitive personal information collection, this research team attempted to develop a facial recognition thermographic camera. The purpose of this study is to compensate for the shortcomings of existing thermographic cameras with disaster safety IoT integrated solution products and to provide quarantine systems using advanced facial recognition technologies. In addition, the captured image information should be protected as personal sensitive information, and a recent leak to China occurred. In order to prevent another case of personal information leakage, it is urgent to develop a thermographic camera that reflects this part. The thermal imaging camera system based on facial recognition technology developed in this study received two patents and one application as of January 2022. In the COVID-19 infectious disease disaster, 'quarantine' is an essential element that must be done at the preventive stage. Therefore, we hope that this development will be useful in the quarantine management field.
Herein, a case of missed upper lumbar disc herniation, diagnosed by thorough neurological examination, digital infrared thermographic imaging[DITI], and repeated magnetic resonance[MR] image study, is reported. A 36-year-old female presented with intractable leg pain on left anterior thigh. Although she underwent lumbar MR image at other hospital, she was misdiagnosed as acute sprain. Neurological examination suggested the possibility of upper lumbar disc herniation, which was confirmed by DITI, MRI, and selective root block. After operation, her leg pain was significantly improved. It should be considered that upper lumbar disc herniation might be misdiagnosed as an acute sprain, as in our case. A high index of suspicion based on thorough neurological examination is most important in such cases. Then, multi-access such as DITI, MR image, and selective block, base on thorough neurological examination, are warranted.
Objectives : This study was performed to compare the effects between Mountain-burning fire method and Heaven-penetrating cooling method on thermographic change. Materials and Methods : The experiment was conducted to 20 students of College of Oriental Medicine, Woosuk University from July 12, 2011 to July 26, 2011. Acupuncture stimulation was applied at left $Zusanli$($ST_{36}$) with Mountain-burning fire method in A group(n=10) and Heaven-penetrating cooling method in B group (n=10). To estimate thermographic change, temperature of left $Zusanli$($ST_{36}$), $Shuigou$($GV_{26}$), $Zhongwan$($CV_{12}$) were measured by DITI(digital infrared thermographic image) before acupuncture stimulation and 30sec, 10min after needle removal. Results : In A group, the temperature of left $Zusanli$($ST_{36}$), $Shuigou$($GV_{26}$), $Zhongwan$($CV_{12}$) were decreased at 30sec after needle removal, statistically. And the temperature of $Zusanli$($ST_{36}$), $Zhongwan$($CV_{12}$) were decreased at 10min after needle removal, statistically. In B group, the temperature of $Zusanli$($ST_{36}$), $Zhongwan$($CV_{12}$) were decreased at 10min after needle removal, statistically. But, there was no significant difference between two groups on thermographic change, statistically Conclusions : Acupuncture stimulation applied at left $Zusanli$($ST_{36}$) with Mountain-burning fire method has more widespread effects than Heaven-penetrating cooling method. But further studies will be needed such as thermographic change with no stimulation and with more subjects.
Objectives : The directional supplementation and draining and twirling supplementation and draining have been used widely in oriental medical clinic. The aim of this study is to compare the effects between directional supplementation and draining method and twirling supplementation and draining. Methods : Clinical experiment was performed with 21 students of oriental medical college of Daegu Haany university. Acupuncture was applied at left Hapgok (LI4) with directional supplementation and twirling supplementation respectively, and the thermographic change was checked using DITI (Digital Infrared Thermographic Image). Results and Conclusion : A significant thermographic change was observed at bilateral Igan (LI2), Yanggye (LI5), Gokji (LI11), and Yeonghyang (LI20) in directional supplementation. A significant thermographic change was observed at bilateral Igan (LI2), Yanggye (LI5), and Yeonghyang (LI20) in twirling supplementation. Based on the thermographic change, it could be demonstrated that directional supplementation is more effective that twirling supplementation.
Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) operates at high temperatures in range of 600-800℃. Since layers of SOFC are composed of different substances, different thermal expansion in SOFC can result in defects under high temperature conditions. For understanding relation between temperature field and the thermal deformation in SOFC, temperature and strain field were simultaneously estimated using thermographic phosphors by optical measurement. Temperature fields were obtained by the life-time method, and the temperature differences of one specimen was checked with thermocouple. The thermal deformation was estimated by digital image correlation (DIC) method with extracted phosphorescence images. To investigate the deformation accuracy of DIC measurement, thermographic phosphors were coated with and without grid pattern on aluminum surface. Simultaneous measurement of temperature fields and thermal deformation were carried out for YSZ. This study will be helpful to multi-sensing of temperature field and thermal deformation on SOFC cells.
This paper describes an analytic method for infrared thermography to detect surface cracks in thin plates. Traditional thermographic method uses the spatial contrast of a thermal field, which is often corrupted by noise in the experiment induced mainly by emissivity variations of target surfaces. This study developed a robust analytic approach to crack detection for thermography using the holomorphic function of a temperature field in thin plate under steady-state thermal conditions. The holomorphic function of a simple temperature field was derived for 2-D heat flow in the plate from Cauchy-Riemann conditions, and applied to define a contour integral that varies depending on the existence and strength of singularity in the domain of integration. It was found that the contour integral at each point of thermal image reduced the noise and temperature variation due to heat conduction, so that it provided a clearer image of the singularity such as cracks.
