Natural convective flow and heat transfer in a two-dimensional square enclosure fitted with a horizontal partition are investigated numerically. The enclosure was composed of the lower hot and the upper cold horizontal walls and the adiabatic vertical walls, and a partition was situated perpendicularly at the one vertical insulated wall. The governing equations are solved by using the finite element method with Galerkin method. The computations were carried out with the variations of length, position and thermal conductivity of the partition, and Rayleigh number based on the temperature difference between two horizontal walls and the enclosure height with water(Pr=4.95). As the results, an oscillatory motion of natural convection is resulted in a sudden rise of overall heat transfer, but the increase of length of partition is significantly restrained the increase of Nusselt number. The maximum heat transfer was shown just before the transition of the direction of oscillating flow. An oscillatory motion of flow was perfectly shown the stability with the decrease of the length of partition and Rayleigh number. Also, the heat transfer was raised with the increase of the thermal conductivity in proportion to the increase of the length of partition. The stability and oscillation of flow are affected by the position of partition.
an isolated droplet combustion exposed to pressure perturbations in stagnant gaseous environment is numerically conducted. Governing equations are solved for flow parameters at gas and liquid phases separately and thermodynamic parameters at the interfacial boundary are matched for problem closure. For high-pressure effects, vapor-liquid interfacial thermodynamics is rigorously treated. A series of parametric calculations in terms of mean pressure level and wave frequencies are carried out employing a n-pentane droplet in stagnant gaseous air. Results show that the operating pressure and driving frequency have an important role in determining the amplitude and phase lag of a combustion response. Mass evaporation rate responding to pressure waves is amplified with increase in pressure due to substantial reduction in latent heat of vaporization. Phase difference between pressure and evaporation rate decreases due to the reduced thermal inertia at high pressure. In addition to this, augmentation of perturbation frequency also enhances amplification of vaporization rate because the time period for the pressure oscillation is much smaller than the liquid thermal inertia time. The phase of evaporation rate shifts backward due to the elevated thermal inertia at high acoustic frequency.
In this paper, we describe the behavior of two self-excitations in laminar attached free-jet flames under the influence of DC electric fields, one of buoyancy-driven and the other of diffusion-thermal instability, established from the horizontal and vertical injection. In the horizontal injection with removed buoyancy effect, oscillating flames with the frequency of 1.3 - 7.4 Hz were observed in a certain condition with Lewis number more than unity. On the other hand, it was appeared Lewis number induced self-excitation as well as buoyancy-driven self-excitation in the vertical upward injection with DC electric fields. This behavior had frequency range of 1.6 - 9.4 Hz and was exhibited to attribute the buoyancy effect. Finally, a well-defined division about two self-excitations having similar frequency range is briefly discussed.
Recently, technical trend for machine tools is focused on enhancement of speed and accuracy. High speedy processing causes thermal and structural deformation of objects from the machine tools. Water cooler has to be applied to machine tools to reduce the thermal negative influence with accurate temperature controlling system. Existing On-Off control type can't control temperature accurately because compressor is operated and stopped repeatedly and causes increment of power consumption and decrement of the expected life of compressor. The goal of this study is to minimize temperature error in steady state. In addition, control period of an electronic expansion valve were considered to increment of lifetime of the machine tools and quality of product with a water cooler. PI controller is designed using type of hot-gas bypass for precise control of temperature. Gain of PI is decided easily by method of critical oscillation response, excellent performance of control is shown with 4.24% overshoot and ${\pm}0.2^{\circ}C$error of steady state. Also, error range of temperature is controlled within $0.2^{\circ}C$although disturbance occurs.
Results of isothermal torsional oscillation tests are reported on melts of linear low density polyethylene and isotactic polypropylene. Prior to rheological tests, specimens were annealed at various temperatures ranging from $T_a$ = 180 to $310^{\circ}C$ for various amounts of time (from 30 to 120 min). Thermal treatment induced degradation of the melts and caused pronounced decreases in their molecular weights. With reference to the concept of transient networks, constitutive equations are developed for the viscoelastic response of polymer melts. A melt is treated as an equivalent network of strands bridged by junctions (entanglements and physical cross-links). The time-dependent response of the network is modelled as separation of active strands from and merging of dangling strands with temporary nodes. The stress-strain relations involve three adjustable parameters (the instantaneous shear modulus, the average activation energy for detachment of active strands, and the standard deviation of activation energies) that are determined by matching the dependencies of storage and loss moduli on frequency of oscillations. Good agreement is demonstrated between the experimental data and the results of numerical simulation. The study focuses on the effect of molecular weight of polymer melts on the material constants in the constitutive equations.
The present study is to assess the applicability of the best-estimate thermal-hydraulic code, MARS 1.4, for the analysis of thermal-hydraulic behavior in PWRs during natural circulation conditions. The code simulates a natural circulation test, BETHSY test 4. la, which was conducted on the integral test facility of BETHSY. The test represented the cooling states of the primary cooling system under single-phase natural circulation, two-phase natural circulation and the reflux condensation mode with conditions corresponding to the residual power, 2% of the rated core power value and 6.8 MPa at the secondary system. Based on MARS 1.4 calculations, the major thermal-hydraulic behaviors during natural circulation are evaluated and the differences between the experimental data and calculated results are identified. The calculated results show generally good behavior with regard to the experimental results; the region of single-phase natural circulation is 100-92% of the initial mass inventory, two-phase natural circulation is 84-63 %, and the reflux condensation mode occurred below 58 %. U-tubes empty and the core uncovery are obtained at 39 % and 34 % of the initial mass inventory, respectively.
A satellite tracked drifter experiment was conducted to observe thermal structure and surface circulation in the northeastern East China Sea. For this experiment, four ADOS buoys, assembled with surface float and thermister chain, were deployed on August 2007 in southern Jeju-do, where the Kuroshio Branch Current is separated from the main stream. Thermal structure in the upper layer of the northeastern East China Sea was successfully observed during the following $1{\sim}3$ months. Strong thermo-haline front in a northeast-southwest direction was observed. In the frontal zone, warm and saline Kuroshio origin water intermixes with fresher coastal water and flows toward the Korean Strait. Typhoon Nari, which passed over the East China Sea 20 days after commencement of study, caused distinct signals in the thermal structure and trajectory of buoys. During the typhoon, surface temperature abruptly dropped to about $4^{\circ}C$, while the thermocline formed at $30{\sim}50$ m depth vanished due to strong vertical mixing. Internal inertial oscillation occurred several days after the typhoon. The fortuitous occurrence of typhoon Nari showed that ADOS buoys can provide useful and accurate air-sea interaction data during typhoons.

The source/channel/drain regions are formed by ion implantation with different dopant types of $n^+/p^{(+)}/n^+$ in the fabrication of the conventional n-type metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor(NMOSFET). In implementing the ultra-small devices with channel length of sub-30 nm, in order to achieve the designed effective channel length accurately, low thermal budget should be considered in the fabrication processes for minimizing the lateral diffusion of dopants although the implanted ions should be activated as completely as possible for higher on-current level. Junctionless (JL) MOSFETs fully capable of the the conventional NMOSFET operations without p-type channel for enlarging the process margin are under researches. In this paper, the optimum design of the JL MOSFET based on silicon nanowire (SNW) structure is carried out by 3-D device simulation and the basic radio frequency (RF) characteristics such as conductance, maximum oscillation frequency($f_{max}$), current gain cut-off frequency($f_T$) for the optimized device. The channel length was 30 run and the design variables were the channel doping concentration and SNW radius. For the optimally designed JL SNW NMOSFET, $f_T$ and $f_{max}$ high as 367.5 GHz and 602.5 GHz could be obtained, respectively, at the operating bias condition $V_{GS}$ = $V_{DS}$ = 1.0 V).

In this paper, Moore-Gibson-Thompson theory of thermoelasticity is considered to investigate the fundamental solution and vibration of plane wave in an isotropic photothermoelastic solid. The governing equations are made dimensionless for further investigation. The dimensionless equations are expressed in terms of elementary functions by assuming time harmonic variation of the field variables (displacement, temperature distribution and carrier density distribution). Fundamental solutions are constructed for the system of equations for steady oscillation. Also some preliminary properties of the solution are explored. In the second part, the vibration of plane waves are examined by expressing the governing equation for two dimensional case. It is found that for the non-trivial solution of the equation yield that there exist three longitudinal waves which advance with the distinct speed, and one transverse wave which is free from thermal and carrier density response. The impact of various models (i)Moore-Gibson-Thomson thermoelastic (MGTE)(2019), (ii) Lord and Shulman's (LS)(1967) , (iii) Green and Naghdi type-II(GN-II)(1993) and (iv) Green and Naghdi type-III(GN-III)(1992) on the attributes of waves i.e., phase velocity, attenuation coefficient, specific loss and penetration depth are elaborated by plotting various figures of physical quantities. Various particular cases of interest are also deduced from the present investigations. The results obtained can be used to delineate various semiconductor elements during the coupled thermal, plasma and elastic wave and also find the application in the material and engineering sciences.
A hysteresis loop tracer using a pulsed high magnetic field of 113.4 kOe, which is suitable for rare earth based permanent magnets, is constructed. The high pulsed magnetic field is generated by discharging a large capacitance charge (5 mF) with a voltage of 600 V into an air solenoid with the inner diameter of 14 mm, outer diameter of 36 mm and the lingth of 34 mm. A computer simulation method is used for the construction of an electromagnet to optimize the many parameters such as the discharge current, generated pulsed magnetic field intensity, thermal dissipation, capacitance, charged voltage, period of damping oscillation and solenoid geometry. By using the hysteresis loop tracer constructed in this work, we are able to measure hystersis loops of several rare earth based permanent magnets with large values of the remanent magnetization, coercvity and energy product.
