During heatup and cooldown of pressurized water reactor, thermal stress was generated in the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) because of the temperature gradient. To prevent potential failure of RPV, pressure was required to be maintained below the P-T limit curves. In this paper, several methods for constructing the P-T limit curves including the ASME Sec. XI, App. G method were explained and the results were compared. Then, the effects of the various parameters such as flaw size, flaw orientation, cooldown rate, existence of chad, and reference fracture toughness, were evaluated. It was found that the current ASME Sec. XI App. G method resulted in the most conservative P-T limit curve. As the more accurate fracture mechanics analysis results were used, some of the conservatism can be removed. Among the parameters analysed, reference flaw orientation and reference fracture toughness curve had the greatest effect on the resulting P-T limit curves.
Emerging issues related with fully coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) behavior of unsaturated soil demand the development of a numerical tool in diverse geo-mechanical and geo-environmental areas. This paper presents general governing equations for coupled THM processes in unsaturated porous media. Coupled partial differential equations are derived from three mass balances equations (solid, water, and air), energy balance equation, and force equilibrium equation. With Galerkin formulation and time integration of these governing equations, finite element code is developed to find nonlinear solution of four main variables (displacement-u, gas pressure-$P_g$), liquid pressure-$P_1$), and temperature-T) using Newton's iterative scheme. Three cases of numerical simulations are conducted and discussed: one-dimensional drainage experiments (u-$P_g-P_1$), thermal consolidation (u-$P_1$-T), and effect of pile on surrounding soil due to surface temperature variation (u-$P_1$-T).
Polycaprolactone (PCL) and thermoplastic starch (TPS) blends were prepared. Mechanical properties, thermal property, water absorption, biodegradability by composting and surface morphology of PCL/TPS blends were investigated. The compositions of PCL/TPS blends were 90/10, 80/20, 70/30, 60/40, 50/50, 40/60, 30/70, 20/80, and 10/90. Strength and elongation at break decreased as the content of TPS increased, while modulus increased. DSC thermogram of TPS showed two glass transition temperatures (T$_{g}$ ) at 23$^{\circ}C$ and 126$^{\circ}C$. And TPS proved to be an amorphous polymer because there was no endothermic peak due to the melting of starch crystal. The unchanged melting temperatures and T$_{g}$ 's of PCL/TPS blends revealed that PCL and TPS were not miscible. All of the blends were found to be mechanically compatible but phase separated in each other. After 45 days composting, the biodegradability of PCL was 44% and that of PCL/TPS blends increased as the contents of TPS increased.

The thermal expansion and mechanical properties of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) with mercaptan hardeners were studied by a comparative method with an amine-adduct type hardener. Thermal expansion and dynamic mechanical properties were measured by thermo mechanical analysis (TMA) and dynamic mechanical ananlysis (DMA), respectively. The $T_g$ and the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of epoxy/amine-adduct type hardener system were $82.6^{\circ}C$ and 71.2 $ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively. As the number of -SH functional group of mercaptan hardener increased, the $T_g$ rapidly decreased and gradually increased up to ca. $80^{\circ}C$ and the CTE under the $T_g$ rapidly increased to ca. 200 $ppm/^{\circ}C$ from 80 $ppm/^{\circ}C$ and decreased to ca. 100 $ppm/^{\circ}C$. The crosslinking density of epoxy with amine-adduct type hardener was ca.1.5 $mol/cm^3$, while that of epoxy with mercaptan hardeners increased from 1.0 to 1.7 $mol/cm^3$, as the number of -SH functional group increased. The storage modulus can increase up to 2700MPa at $30^{\circ}C$.

We synthesized novel polyimides with high gas permeability and selectivity for application of on board inert gas generation system (OBIGGS). 2,2-bis(3,4-carboxylphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) and two kinds of amines with high permeability and solubility were used to prepare the novel polymide. 2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (TMPD) was used to improve gas permeability and various kinds of diamines were used to improve the gas selectivity respectively. The polyimide copolymers were synthesized by commercial chemical imidization method and their average molecular weights were over 100,000g/mol. The glass temperature ($T_g$) and the thermal degradation temperature were characterized using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The synthesized copolymers showed high $T_g$ over $300^{\circ}C$ and high thermal degradation temperature over $500^{\circ}C$. The gas permeation properties were measured by time-lag equipment. Although general polyimides showed very low gas permeability, synthesized polyimide copolymer showed high $O_2$ permeability of 36.21 barrer with high $O_2/N_2$ selectivity around 4.1. From this result, we confirm that these membranes have possibility to apply to OBIGGS.
IC 443 is famous for its interaction with nearby molecular clouds and intense H2 emission lines in infrared. Therefore, it has been studied extensively for the understanding of molecular shocks. We observed H2 mission lines toward the shock-cloud interaction regions of IC 443, known as clumps B, C, and G. The observations were performed with the InfraRed Camera (IRC) onboard a satellite AKARI over 2.5-5.0 um, where previous space observations, e.g. Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) and Spitzer, do not cover. Our AKARI observations provide spectra of sequential pure-rotational and ro-vibrational H2 emission lines. For the clumps C and G, combining with previous mid-infrared observational results, we found that the H2 level populations show a significant separation between v=0 and v=1 levels; v=1 levels are under-populated than v=0 levels, therefore, the population cannot be described by two temperature LTE model, as many people have analyzed for the shocked H2 gas. We also applied the thermal admixture model, dN(H2; T)~T^(-b) dT, with varying ortho-to-para ratios according to the temperature, to describe the level population, and obtained plausible ranges of the H2 gas density and power-law index b.
In this study, the TSC spectroscopy has been applied to investigate the influence of structural change due to a process of curing reaction on the electrical properties of epoxy composites cured with acid-anhydride. Five TSC peaks appeared in -160-250[.deg.C]: in the low temperature region below glass transition temperature(T$\_$g/), three relaxation mode peaks due to action of side chains, substitution group or terminal groups have been observed, a peak associated with T$\_$g/, appeared in 110[.deg. C] and p peak due to ionic space charges located in 150[.deg.C]. Each peak was separated into elementary peaks by the partial polarization procedure, and the distribution of activation energy and relaxation time were analized to clearify the origin of each peak. Also, overaboundantly added hardener separated a .betha. peak near 10[.deg. C] into two peaks of .betha.$\_$1/(10.deg. C) and .betha.$\_$2/(20.deg. C) according to increasement of forming field, and the separated hardener was oxidated thermally with increasing surrounding temperatures. The expansion of the free volume need in molecular motion and the reduction of the structural packing density through thermal oxidation process increased TSC between .alpha. peak and .betha. peak and decreased T$\_$g/.

The thermal behavior, morphology, ester-interchange reaction of Poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT)/poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) melt blends were investigated over the whole composition range(xPTT/(1-x)PET) using a twinscrew Brabender. The melt blends were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ($^{13}{C-NMR}$), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Single glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and cold crystallization temperature ($T_cc$) were observed in all melt blends. Melt blends were found to be due to the ester-interchange reaction in PTT/PET blend. Also the randomness of copolymer increases because transesterification between PT and PET increases with increasing blending time This reaction increases homogeneity of the blends and decreases the degree of crystallinity of the melt blends. In PTT-rich blends, mechanical properties decrease with increase of PET content compared with that of pure PTT. And, in PET-rich blends, tensile modulus decreases with increase of PTT content, but tensile strength and elongation is similar to that of pure PET.
In South Korea the gross generation and heated effluent of power generation plant was 259 TWh and 4.73 billion tons in 2008. And then the waste heat from power generation was 388 TWh. It shows that the efficiency of thermal power generation plant is about 40%. Therefore to reduce $CO_2$ emission from thermal power generation plant, the energy of this heated effluent must be reused to heat buildings or farm facilities. In South Korea horticultural facilities of about 25% are heated in winter season. Total area of greenhouses which are heated is about 13,000 ha. Total heat amount needed to warm greenhouse of 13,000 ha in winter season is only 3.4% of total waste heat from power generation plant. In this study a heat pump system was designed to reuse the waste heat from power generation. Especially new heat exchanger was developed to recover the thermal energy from waste water and this model considered anti-corrosion against sea water and low cost for economic feasibility. This heat recovery system was installed in mango growing greenhouse around thermal power generation plant in Seogwipo-city, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The result of preliminary test shows that the heating cost of about 90% is saved as compared to boiler using tax free light oil as a fuel.
