  • This study is planning improvement of welfare facilities about the hall for the aged in apartment housing. An apartment house, famous residential type in Korea, put an important value on its convenience and economical efficiency of furniture arrangement by maximizing floor space index. In this regard, leisure usage of house was not carefully considered for the aged people. To redefine the efficiency of welfare facilities, research mainly deals with analysis of realistic needs for the aged through the spot survey and interview. The main purpose of this study is to enhance the quality of welfare facilities and propose the improved welfare facilities for the aged people. Through the research, conclusions are as followed First, Facility standard and provisions of the law should be revised for considering population growth of the aged people. Second, there are 4 plan types in the hall for the aged. Contrary to our expectation, diversity of program was not found however various program planning is needed for considering its different types of plan. Third, according to regulation, space restriction is based on the number of households. Therefore, room and space standard does not depend on the number of people. From now on, in order to improve quality of welfare facilities of the aged, revision of laws and overall facility standard should be implemented in advance.

  • The percentage of senior citizens is increasing in Korea and it is expected to become an "aging society". Problems with the elderly are becoming a big concern, such as physical and mental illness, losing their jobs and having difficulties at home. But, the silver generation, as they are being known, has changed a lot these days. With the aid of medical developments, the elderly's lifespan has become longer, making them more independent and active. Senior Welfare Center's are places where the elderly can spend their golden years in comfort, meaningfully. Senior Welfare Center's these days provide many different programs, which naturally lead to an increase in elderly users. With the rise in welfare centers and users, research on the subject also grew. As this topic has only recently become an issue, there were not many spatial structure studies considering elderly movement. Therefore, there should be spatial structure research that considers older users space awareness and how it can be managed effectively. The goal of this study is to present basic resources for providing a comfortable senior welfare center for elders. This will be based on quantitative analysis derived from spatial structure research along with special construction characteristics based on the institution's general plan. As a research method, Senior Welfare Center's will be categorized into corridor type, hall type, and hybrid types which then be reproduced into a j-graph. Based on this, special structure characteristics and connection links will be comprehended. Then the connection link will be analyzed based on the space syntax result calculated from each type's integration, connectivity, control value, and intelligibility. The analysis result shows that Senior Welfare Center j-graph's average arrangement is hybrid>corridor>hall types. Those elders lacking awareness need easily perceivable spatial structure's and hall type's would be the best choice to increase their awareness as it has high articulation. However, hall type's would be difficult to construct with the size increase, so hybrid type would be the next logical solution. Space with relatively high articulation will need to be planned in hybrid type's where rest areas can be created within the halls in the Welfare Center in connection to its corridors.

And the sustainable conditions of SEP were confirmed. This study was conducted with one market-type SEP approved by the Korea Elderly Labor Force Development Institute (KLFDI), one preliminary social enterprise approved by Changwon City Hall, and one market-type SEP operated by a social welfare center for the elderly. As a result of the study, it was found that EROI, SROI, and BROI were the highest in the SEP of preliminary social enterprises operated by subsidies in Changwon. However, the difference between EROI and SROI was greatest in the market-type SEP operated by the elderly social welfare center. There was a big difference between economic and social impacts. The social influence of the elderly was evaluated to be higher than the income of the elderly.

The kitchen, living rooms, private bedrooms and construction of the elderly welfare facilities were similar to that of normal residential houses. 3. The event hall is conveniently located at the center of the facility. 4. It was easy to understand the health status of the elderly by having a health office in the open living room. 5. There were open spaces which are frequently used by the homebound elderly, including room rehabilitation, daycare and short term residence. The above results will be used for space planning data in Korean unit-care facilities.
