  • This study developed a big data-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) program using WWT (World Wide Telescope), focusing on content elements of 'solar system', 'star and universe' in the 2015 revised science curriculum, and in order to find out the effectiveness of the STEAM program, analyzed creative problem solving, STEAM attitude, and STEAM satisfaction by applying it to one middle school 176 students simple random sampled. The results of this study are as follows. First, we developed a program to encourage students to actively and voluntarily participating, utilizing the astronomical data platform WWT. Second, in the paired t-test based on the difference between the pre- and post-scores of the creative problem solving measurement test, significant statistical test results were shown in 'idea adaptation', 'imaging', 'analogy', 'idea production' and 'elaboration' sub-factors except 'attention task' sub-factor (p < .05). Third, in the paired t-test based on the difference between the pre- and post-scores of the STEAM attitude test, significant statistical test results were shown in 'interest', 'communication', 'self-concept', 'self-efficacy' and 'science and engineering career choice' sub-factors except 'consideration' and 'usefulness / value recognition' sub-factors (p < .05). Fourth, in the STEAM satisfaction test conducted after class application, the average values of sub-factors were 3.16~3.90. The results indicated that students' understanding and interest in the science subject improved significantly through the big data-based STEAM program using the WWT.

  • In the past, meta-heuristic optimization algorithms were developed to solve the problems caused by complex nonlinearities occurring in natural phenomena, and various studies have been conducted to examine the applicability of the developed algorithms. The self-adaptive vision correction algorithm (SAVCA) showed excellent performance in mathematics problems, but it did not apply to complex engineering problems. Therefore, it is necessary to review the application process of the SAVCA. The SAVCA, which was recently developed and showed excellent performance, was applied to the advanced Muskingum flood routing model (ANLMM-L) to examine the application and application process. First, initial solutions were generated by the SAVCA, and the fitness was then calculated by ANLMM-L. The new value selected by a local and global search was put into the SAVCA. A new solution was generated, and ANLMM-L was applied again to calculate the fitness. The final calculation was conducted by comparing and improving the results of the new solution and existing solutions. The sum of squares (SSQ) was used to calculate the error between the observed and calculated runoff, and the applied results were compared with the current models. SAVCA, which showed excellent performance in the Muskingum flood routing model, is expected to show excellent performance in a range of engineering problems.

  • The major goals of this study are to find the factors that enhance self-directed math learning in college math classes and to provide the students with the opportunities to check and develop their self-directed math learning attitude. For these research goals, we prepared the questionnaires that asked about their learning motivations, basic learning ability, self-discipline strategies, and self-directed learning strategies. Another purpose of the questionnaires was to give them the chances to check and improve their attitude toward those learning strategies, motivation and ability. From the research results, we find that the important factors for self-directed learning are internal & external motivations, concentration ability, and the goal-setting and plan-making abilities. In addition, concentration ability, good habit, stress-control, recognition of math value, and self-directing ability are found to be necessary for the desirable learning environment. On the other hand, we find that the ability to perform note-taking, class preparation and review, time-control, and test-control is required for the selection and practice of self-fitting learning strategies. Finally, we provided our own self-directed math learning model. Our model, containing the necessary factors for self-directed math learning, is the revised and modified one of Knowles(1975)'s 5 stage self-directed learning model that comprises diagnosis of learning desire, setting learning goals, grasping human&material resources, selection and practice of proper learning strategies, and evaluation of learning results.

  • This paper proposes an artificial intelligence convergence education program for teaching the main concept and principle of Support Vector Machines(SVM) at elementary schools. The developed program, based on Jeju's natural environment theme, explains the decision boundary and margin of SVM by vertical and parallel from 4th grade mathematics curriculum. As a result of applying the developed program to 3rd and 5th graders, most students intuitively inferred the location of the decision boundary. The overall performance accuracy and rate of reasonable inference of 5th graders were higher. However, in the self-evaluation of understanding, the average value was higher in the 3rd grade, contrary to the actual understanding. This was due to the fact that junior learners had a greater tendency to feel satisfaction and achievement. On the other hand, senior learners presented more meaningful post-class questions based on their motivation for further exploration. We would like to find effective ways for artificial intelligence convergence education for elementary school students.

  • The NTRU cryptosystem proposed by Hoffstein et al. in 1990s is a public key cryptosystem based on hard lattice problems. NTRU has many advantages compared to other public key cryptosystems such as RSA and elliptic curve cryptosystems. For example, it guarantees high speed encryption and decryption with the same level of security, and there is no known quantum computing algorithm for speeding up attacks against NTRD. In this paper, we analyze the security of NTRU against the simple power analysis (SPA) attack and the statistical power analysis (STPA) attack such as the correlation power analysis (CPA) attack First, we implement NTRU operations using NesC on a Telos mote, and we show how to apply CPA to recover a private key from collected power traces. We also suggest countermeasures against these attacks. In order to prevent SPA, we propose to use a nonzero value to initialize the array which will store the result of a convolution operation. On the other hand, in order to prevent STPA, we propose two techniques to randomize power traces related to the same input. The first one is random ordering of the computation sequences in a convolution operation and the other is data randomization in convolution operation.

  • 'Learning with a robot' is now considered as one of the best candidates for STEAM education, which is recently growing its importance. Most of the 'learning with a robot' programs in elementary schools serve as afterschool classes. The students participating in the afterschool classes are mostly boys who are interested in science and robots. This paper mainly concerns that a robot can be helpful for improving students' interest in STEAM education. We divided the robot utilizable aspects into 5 areas with educational points of view; abstract concept understanding type, structure-oriented type, athletics-oriented type, intelligence-oriented type and value-orientated type. We extracted all robot utilizable subjects and units from elementary school curriculum, and developed lesson plans which can be applicable to regular classes. And we also verified them by applying into an elementary school for 5 months. As the result of the analysis, we can conclude that 'learning with a robot' can encourage students' interest in STEAM, and it is more effective for girls than boys. Finally, we discuss problems that teachers may face in using a robot for regular classes, and make suggestions about the use of a robot for STEAM education.

  • Currently, the highest cancer death rate in Korea is lung cancer, which is a typical cancer that is difficult to detect early. Low-dose chest CT is being used for early detection, which has a greater lung cancer diagnosis rate of about three times than regular chest x-ray images. However, low-dose chest CT not only significantly reduces image resolution but also has a weak signal and is sensitive to noise. Also, air filled lungs are low-density organs and the presence of noise can significantly affect early diagnosis of cancer. This study used Visual C++ to set a circle inside a large circle with a density of 2.0, with a density of 1.0, which is the density of water, in which five small circle of mathematics have different densities. Gaussian noise was generated by 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4% respectively to determine the effect of noise on the mean value, the standard deviation value, and the relative noise ratio(SNR). In areas where the density difference between the large and small circles was greatest in the event of 1 % noise, the SNR in the area with the greatest variation in noise was 4.669, and in areas with the lowest density difference, the SNR was 1.183. In addition, the SNR values can be seen to be high if the same results are obtained for both positive and negative densities. Quality was also clearly visible when the density difference was large, and if the noise level was increased, the SNR was reduced to significantly affect the noise. Low-density organs or organs in areas of similar density to cancers, will have significant noise effects, and the effects of density differences on the probability of noise will affect diagnosis.

  • The Chaos theory of complexity and Fractal theory which became a prominent figure as a new paradigm of natural science should be understood not as whole, and not into separate elements of nature. Fractal Dimensions are used to measure the complexity of objects. We now have ways of measuring things that were traditionally meaningless or impossible to measure. They are capable of describing many irregularly shaped objects including man and nature. It is compatible method of application to express complexity of nature in the dimension of non-fixed number by placing our point of view to lean toward non-linear, diverse, endless time, and complexity when we look at our world. Fractal Dimension allows us to measure the complexity of an object. Having a wide application of fractal geometry and Chaos theory to the art field is the territory of imagination where art and science encounter each other and yet there has not been much research in this area. The formative word has been extracted in this study by analyzing objective data to grasp formative principle and geometric characteristic of (this)distinct figures of Fractals. With this form of research, it is not so much about fractal in mathematics, but the concept of self-similarity and recursiveness, randomness, devices expressed from unspeakable space, and the formative similarity to graphic design are focused in this study. The fractal figures have characteristics in which the structure doesn't change the nature of things of the figure even in the process if repeated infinitely many times, the limit of the process produces is fractal. Almost all fractals are at least partially self-similar. This means that a part of the fractal is identical to the entire fractal itself even if there is an enlargement to infinitesimal. This means any part has all the information to recompose as whole. Based on this scene, the research is intended to examine possibility of analysis of fractals in geometric characteristics in plasticity toward forms in graphic design. As a result, a beautiful proportion appears in graphic design with calculation of mathematic. It should be an appropriate equation to express nature since the fractal dimension allows us to measure the complexity of an object and the Fractla geometry should pick out high addition in value of peculiarity and characteristics in the complex of art and science. At the stage where the necessity of accepting this demand and adapting ourselves to the change is gathering strength is very significant in this research.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the value, necessity and legitimacy of STEAM Education and to propose practical approaching methods for STEAM Education to be applicable in Korea through a variety of literature review, case studies and collecting suggestions from domestic and international educational experts. The research questions are as follows: (1) To investigate the perception, understanding and recognitions of domestic and foreign professionals in STEAM education. (2) To analyze policy implications for an improvement in STEAM. The following aspects of STEAM were found to be challenges in our current STEAM policy after analyzing multiple questionnaires with the professionals and case studies including their experiences, understanding, supports and directions of the policy from the governments. The results indicate that (1) there was a lack of precise and conceptual understanding of STEAM in respect to experience. Training sessions for teachers in this field to help transform their perception is necessary. Development of practical programs with an easy access is also required. It is important to get the aims of related educational activities recognized by the professionals and established standards for an evaluation. The experts perceived that a theme-based learning is the most preferred and effective approaching method and the programs that develop creative thinking and learning applicable to practice are required to promote. (2) The results indicate that there was a lack of programs and inducements for supporting outstanding STEAM educators. It is shown that making an appropriate environment for STEAM education takes the first priority before training numbers of teachers unilaterally, thus securing enough budget seems critical. The professionals also emphasize on developing specialized teaching materials that include diverse inter-related subjects such as science technology, engineering, arts and humanities and social science with diverse viewpoints and advanced technology. This work requires a STEAM network for teachers to link up and share their materials, documents and experiences. It is necessary to get corporations, universities, and research centers participated in the network. (3) With respect to direction, it is necessary to propose policy that makes STEAM education ordinary and more practical in the present education system. The professionals have recommended training sessions that help develop creative thinking and amalgamative problem-solving techniques. They require reducing the workload of teachers and changing teachers' perspectives towards STEAM. They further urge a tight cooperation between departments of the government related with STEAM.

  • Based on the TF-IDF weighted value that evaluates the importance of words that play a key role, the semantic network analysis(SNA) was conducted on the self-introduction letter of freshman at Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries(KNCAF) in 2020. The top three words calculated by TF-IDF weights were agriculture, mathematics, study (Q. 1), clubs, plants, friends (Q. 2), friends, clubs, opinions, (Q. 3), mushrooms, insects, and fathers (Q. 4). In the relationship between words, the words with high betweenness centrality are reason, high school, attending (Q. 1), garbage, high school, school (Q. 2), importance, misunderstanding, completion (Q.3), processing, feed, and farmhouse (Q. 4). The words with high degree centrality are high school, inquiry, grades (Q. 1), garbage, cleanup, class time (Q. 2), opinion, meetings, volunteer activities (Q.3), processing, space, and practice (Q. 4). The combination of words with high frequency of simultaneous appearances, that is, high correlation, appeared as 'certification - acquisition', 'problem - solution', 'science - life', and 'misunderstanding - concession'. In cluster analysis, the number of clusters obtained by the height of cluster dendrogram was 2(Q.1), 4(Q.2, 4) and 5(Q. 3). At this time, the cohesion in Cluster was high and the heterogeneity between Clusters was clearly shown.
