  • Porous silicon was prepared by an anodic etching. The pore size was about 10 nm at an etching time of 20 sec and a current density of 20 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The porous layer was composed of an micro-porous layer (0.6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) and a macro-porous layer (10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). Room temperature PL with maximum peak 6700$\AA$ appeared. The peak disappeared by an oxidation reaction when the porous silicon was heated to 100~20$0^{\circ}C$ in atmosphere. In order to avoid the oxidation a heat treatment was done in H2 atmosphere. The micro-pore and Si column, which formed quantum well, were collapsed by the high temperature. The PL maximum peak of heated sample was gradually red-shifted and showed about 300$\AA$ red-shift at 50$0^{\circ}C$. The intensity of PL was maintained to high temperatures in lower pressures. The porous Si was carbonized in C2H2+H2 gas in order to increase thermal stability. The carbonization of the porous Si prevented red-shift of the maximum PL peak caused by sintering effect at high temperatures, and the carbonized porous Si showed Pl signal at higher temperatures by above 20$0^{\circ}C$ than the sample in H2 atmosphere.

  • Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 system glasses contained P2O5, TiO2 and ZrO2as the nucleating agents were melted and formed. The glass was subsequently heated first to nucleate and then to grow the crystals. At constant nucleating agent content the base glass compositions were varied and the influences of these variations on the crystallization behaviour were investigated. The study was made by measurement of thermal expansion coefficient, differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscope observation and transmission measurement of crystallized glass specimen in visible region. It was shown that the content of crystalline phase decreased with increasing SiO2 content as well as decresing Li2O in the base glass compositions. As the result of X-ray diffrection analysis, the major crystal was $\beta$-quartz solid solution. The degree of crystallinity which was calculated using the noncrystalline scattering methods increased in S-shape with increasing heat treatment time. This change was similar to that in thermal expansion coefficient. The transmissions of 5mm thick samples were 80-90% in visible ray region.

  • An 80 nm thick zinc aluminate thin film was deposited on a glass substrate via radio-frequency (rf) magnetron sputtering and heat treated to analyze changes in the wetting angles due to a surface modification. The thin films were modified from hydrophilic to hydrophobic by a simple thermal treatment. The surface modification from a heat treatment increased the wetting angles up to 111°, which was explained by the relationship with the excess surface area. The wetting angles of the annealed thin films decreased with increasing exposure time under ambient conditions, which was attributed to the oxygen vacancies in the films that were introduced during deposition. The annealed thin films were treated by ionized oxygen via oxygen plasma. After the oxygen plasma treatment, the decreased wetting angles were maintained at ~95° for 11 days.

  • This review sought to categorize studies on meat tenderization and safety through pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment, with a particular focus on reconciling conflicting findings regarding the tenderization effect (i.e., the primary outcome of PEF treatment) and to discuss the underlying mechanisms of these effects. While the tenderization effect may vary depending on the homogeneity of PEF treatment and variations in the conditions of texture measurements, the protein associated with tenderization was degraded by PEF treatment in most studies. PEF technology enables the delivery of a high voltage for a brief duration, typically in the microsecond range, making it a non-thermal technology. One of the distinct advantages of PEF is its ability to preserve the freshness of meat due to its exceptionally short treatment time. While PEF studies have traditionally centered on pasteurizing liquid foods, research on its application to meat is steadily expanding. Therefore, this review aims to elucidate the mechanisms of PEF and provide current insights into the applications of this technology for meat tenderization and microbial inactivation.

  • Graphite has excellent mechanical and physical properties. It is known to advanced materials and is used to materials for molds, thermal treatment of furnace, sinter of diamond and cemented carbide tool etc. SiC materials are coated on the surface and holes of graphite to protect particles emitted from porous graphite with 5%~20% porosity and make graphite hard surface. SiC materials have high durability and thermal stability. Thermal CVD method is widely used to manufacture SiC thin films but high cost of machine investment and production are required. SiC thin films manufactured by Si reaction liquid and vapore with carbon are effective because of low cost of machine and production. SiC thin films made by vapor silicon infiltration into porous graphite can be obtained for shorter time than liquid silicon. Si materials are evaporated to the graphite surface in about $10^{-2}$ torr and high temperature. Si materials are melted in $1410^{\circ}C$. Si vapor is infiltrated into the surface hole of porous graphite and $Si_xC_y$ compound is made. $Si_x$ component is proportional to the Si vapor concentration. Si diffusion coefficient is estimated from quadratic equation obtained by Fick's second law. The steady stae is assumed. Si concentration variation for the depth from graphite surface is fitted to quadratic equation. Diffusion coefficient of Si vapor is estimated at about $10^{-8}cm^2s^{-1}$.

  • Silver nanopowders were prepared from silver 2-ethylhexylcarbamate (Ag-EHCB) complexes by simple thermal reduction at $85^{\circ}C$ without any reducing agent in organic solvent. 2-Ethylhexylammonium 2-ethylhexylcarbamate (EHAEHC) was investigated in terms of their abilities to stabilize the silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) and its subsequent effects on the preventing aggregation between Ag-NPs. Conditions (concentration of stabilizer and reaction time) used to reduce Ag-EHCB complex were systematically varied to determine their effects on the sizes of Ag-NPs. The formation of the stabilized Ag-NPs were easily monitored by UV-vis spectroscopy and characterized by TGA, TEM, SEM and XRD. When EHAEHC was used as a stabilizer, Ag-NPs of 10-30 nm in diameter were easily obtained in high yield. Silver patterns were obtained from a silver nano-paste by heat treatment at $200^{\circ}C$ in air and were found to have resistivity values of $2.9{\times}10^{-8}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}m$.

  • In this study, the Ag nano-dots structure was applied to the textured wafer surface to improve the light trapping effect of crystalline silicon solar cell. The Ag nano-dots structure was formed by the annealing of Ag thin film. Ag thin film deposition was performed using a thermal evaporator. The effect of light trapping was compared and analyzed through light reflectance measurements. The optimization process of the Ag nano-dots structure was made by varying the thickness of Ag thin film, the annealing temperature and time. The thickness of Ag thin films was in the range of 5 ~ 20 nm. The annealing temperature was in the range of 450~650℃ and the annealing time was in the range of 30 ~ 60 minutes. As a result, the light reflectance of 10 nm Ag thin film annealed at 650℃ for 30 minutes showed the lowest value of about 9.67%. This is a value that is about 3.37% lower than the light reflectance of the sample that has undergone only the texturing process. Finally, the change of the light reflectance by the HF treatment of the sample on which the Ag nano-dots structure was formed was investigated. The HF treatment time was in the range of 0 ~ 120 seconds. As a result, the light reflectance decreased by about 0.41% due to the HF treatment for 75 seconds.

  • The discharge of ballast water from the marine vessel without proper treatment causes the ecological disruption. Therefore, International Marine Organization(IMO) has the plan to force the proper treatment of ballast water before its discharge to open sea. To satisfy the IMO's criteria, several processes such as filtration, UV irradiation, and ozonation etc., were introduced. Since the disinfection of ballast water should be conducted within very short hydrolic retention time, electrochemical treatment can be a promissing process. The DSA(dimensional stable anode) electrode for the electrochemical treatment was prepared by thermal deposition method. The disinfection rate of microorganisms increased with the increasing current density and reaction time under low pH condition. The morphology of sterilized microorganisms was shown by SEM and Microscopy.

  • The hot corrosion behavior of plasma sprayed 4 mol% $Y_2O_3-ZrO_2$ (YSZ) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) with volcanic ash is investigated. Volcanic ash that deposited on the TBCs in gas-turbine engines can attack the surface of TBCs itself as a form of corrosive melt. YSZ coating specimens with a thickness of 430-440 ${\mu}m$ are prepared using a plasma spray method. These specimens are subjected to hot corrosion environment at $1200^{\circ}C$ with five different duration time, from 10 mins to 100 h in the presence of corrosive melt from volcanic ash. The microstructure, composition, and phase analysis are performed using Field emission scanning electron microscopy, including Energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. After the heat treatment, hematite ($Fe_2O_3-TiO_2$) and monoclinic YSZ phases are found in TBCs. Furthermore the interface area between the molten volcanic ash layers and YSZ coatings becomes porous with increases in the heat treatment time as the YSZ coatings dissolved into molten volcanic ash. The maximum thickness of this a porous reaction zone is 25 ${\mu}m$ after 100 h of heat treatment.

  • The objective of this research is to evaluate the optimum treatment methods for disposal sludge cake at different temperatures and periods of time. The disposal dehydrated sewage cake used in this study was obtained from N wastewater treatment plant in the P City. This system consists of continuous conveyer thermal dryer and pyrolysis. The continual conveyer thermal dryer was operated to evaluate the optimum conditions with temperature settings, ranges from 130 to $180^{\circ}C$, loading rates of 650~750 kg/hr and operating times of 110~120 minutes. The continual pyrolysis was also operated to evaluate the optimum conditions with temperature settings, ranges from 650 to $750^{\circ}C$, loading rates of 100~158 kg/hr and operating times of 20~40 minutes. The sewage sludge cake has a moisture content of 78~80% (wt) which decreased up to 1~3%(wt) resulted in breaking of cell wall after operating the continuous conveyer thermal dryer and pyrolysis. Important parameters which were operating times, moisture contents, loading rates, conveyer velocities and rotary velocities effects on the thermal kinetics and dynamics were investigated to evaluate the optimum conditions for the continual thermal dryer and pyrolysis.
