  • The electronic transmission of VLBI data(dubbed e-VLBI) presents a special challenge to the use of high-speed global network. with long-term requirements for simultaneous or near-simultaneous Gbps data streams from antennas worldwide converging in a single processing center, e-VLBI is both a useful and highly synergetic application for global high-speed networksAs broband access to high speed research and education networks has become increasingly available to radio telescopes around the world the use of e-VLBI has also increased. High bandwidth e-VLBI experiments have been achieved across wide areas e-VLBI has also been used for the transfer of data from "production"exoeriments

  • This paper describes an algorithm for short term load forecasting using the Kohonen neural network. Single layer Kohonen neural network presents a lot of advantageous features for practical application. It takes less training time compared to other networks such as BP network, and moreover, its self organized feature can amend the distorted data. The originality of proposed approach is to use a Kohonen map toclassify data representing load patterns and to use directly the information stored in the weight vectors of the Kohonen map to pridict the load. Proposed method was tested with KEPCO hourly record(1993-1995) show better forecasting results compared with conventional exponential smoothing method.

  • This paper discusses how to generate the reference compensation voltages in Dynamic Voltage Restorers (DVR) by use of PQR instantaneous power theory. Sensed three-phase terminal voltages are transformed to PQR coordinates without time delay. Since the reference voltage in PQR coordinates is a single dc value, the voltage controller for DVRs is simple and easy to design. Proposed control method can be implemented by feedforward controllers or by feedback controllers. This paper verified the theory by a feedforward controller of a DVR with simulation and experiment.

  • A vision sensor measure range data using laser light source, This sensor generally use patterned laser which shaped single line. But this vision sensor cannot satisfy new trend which needs faster and more precise processing. The sensor's sampling rate increases as reduced image processing time. However, the sampling rate can not over 30fps, because a camera has mechanical sampling limit. If we use multi line laser pattern, we will measure multi range data in one image. In the case of using same sampling rate camera, number of 2D range data profile in one second is directly proportional to laser line's number. For example, the vision sensor using 5 laser lines can sample 150 profiles per second in best condition.

  • The use of energy concepts in seismic analysis and design of structures requires the understanding of the input energy response of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems subjected to strong ground motions. For design purposes and non-time consuming analysis, however, it would be beneficial to associate the input energy response of MDOF systems with those of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems. In this paper, the theoretical formulation of energy input to MDOF systems is developed on the basis that only a particular portion of the total mass distributed among floor levels is effective in the nth-mode response. The input energy response histories of several reinforced concrete frames subjected to a set of eleven horizontal acceleration histories selected from actual recorded events and scaled in time domain are obtained. The contribution of the fundamental mode to the total input energy response of MDOF frames is demonstrated both graphically and numerically. The input energy of the fundamental mode is found to be a good indicator of the total energy input to two-dimensional regular MDOF structures. The numerical results computed by the proposed formulation are verified with relative input energy time histories directly computed from linear time history analysis. Finally, the elastic input energies are compared with those computed from time history analysis of nonlinear MDOF systems.

  • This paper proposes a technical requirements analysis of implementation of multi-trade prefabrication. Recently, there has been a rise in the use of prefabrication to minimize on-site work for time reduction to increase productivity. Prefabrication technique is evolved into multi-trade prefabrication combining other trades from single-trade prefabrication. For implementation of new technique, not only itself but complementary techniques have to be prepared. In this paper, MEP corridor rack, a major item of multi-trade prefabrication, was implemented in the test bed and its process was analyzed to find out technical requirements. As a result, comparatively high level of IT technique was required for efficient use of multi-trade prefabrication in design, lifting and construction phase. In design phase, component level of BIM library was needed for manufacturing; and in lifting phase, BIM-based site logistics process was required. Also in construction phase, laser scanning was implemented for gathering shape and geometry of the wall and slab that were attached to multi-trade prefabrication module.

  • We propose a two-stage resource allocation algorithm for the high link utilization of an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing passive optical network (OFDM-PON). An OFDM-PON is assumed to use a synchronous frame structure in supporting service differentiation. In distributing resources, the proposed algorithm first allocates a time window for each optical network unit (ONU), and then it arranges a subchannel, which is a group of subcarriers. This algorithm needs to satisfy two constraints. First, computations for the resource allocation should be done using a frame unit. Second, an ONU has to use a single subchannel to send upstream data for multiple services within a frame duration. We show through a computer simulation that the proposed algorithm improves the link utilization.

  • Recent content-based image retrieval systems make use of a local single server contained a limited number of images. So these systems are not satisfactory for the Web user's needs that make request for various images on the Web. A content-based image retrieval system that has regard for a great number of Web images has to stand on the basis of real-time first of all. Therefore, to implement the above system we have to resolve a problem of large waste time to take for an image collection and feature extractions. In recent, PC clusters with a load distribution are implemented for the purpose of high-performance data processing. In this paper, we decreased the whole retrieval time by distributing the tasks of image collection and feature extraction to take much time among the slave computers of the PC cluster, and so we found the possibility of the real-time processing in the retrieval of Web images.
