Statistics was not recognized until the early 20th century as an independent science, and statistical education research came to an international milestone in the late 1940s. The purpose of this study is to investigate the historical development of statistics education research, focusing on the activities of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE). Statistics education in Korea is considered with regard to the history of international research on statistics education in this study. It implies for the direction of statistical education research to domestic mathematics education researchers and statistical researchers related to statistical education research.

Recently Statistical literacy, reasoning, and thinking become a educational issue. We consider about the definition and components of Statistical literacy which is discussed in the meantime. And we look into the purpose of statistics education in the school mathematics curriculum and discuss about the implications for the statistics education from the Statistical literacy.

Recently, Korean national center for education statistics & information exhibits the results of forecast educational statistics from 2007 to 2021 year. The purpose of this paper is to suggest the errors and problems on the results of forecast educational statistics and the distribution of the number of students.

The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends and specific features in the statistics education between Korea and overseas. For this purpose, a total of 180 articles presented in 4 domestic and 4 foreign journals of the mathematics education and statistics education was investigated. The result findings are as follows. First, more than half of researches have been carried out in teaching and learning, understanding of statistical concepts in both of domestic and foreign journals. Second, some researches on the affective effect were carried out in foreign journals, but not in domestic journals. Third, researches on the teacher education were carried out mainly for the pre-service teachers in domestic journals, but mainly for the in-service teachers in foreign journals. Fourth, empirical study was mainly used for the research method in domestic journals while both empirical and non-empirical study were used in foreign journals. Fifth, subjects of research were mainly secondary students in domestic journals, but over undergraduate students in foreign journals.

The purpose of this study is to analyze whether statistics and statistical education of intensive courses at the teachers college can improve elementary pre-service teacher' statistical attitudes. Findings on this study are as follows: First, there was meaningful difference in the elementary pre-service teacher' attitudes with significant level of 0.05. This proved that statistics and statistical education of intensive courses at the teachers college was effective on improving elementary pre-service teacher' attitudes. Second, there was meaningful difference in the pre-service math teacher' conception in the 2009 reformed curriculum for elementary mathematics.

The purpose of this study is to see what the essential characteristics are in teaching probability and statistics among various mathematical fields. we also tried to connect the study of probability and statistics education with what is needed for a science be synthetic to have its own identity as a unique research field. Since we searched for the future direction of the pedagogic study in the probability and statistics we first selected papers on probability and statistics published in (Series A), the Journal of Korea Society of Mathematical Education, and establish the following research questions. What kinds of characteristics can be found when papers on probability and statistics published in (Series A) are classified into low categories; contents of probability and statistics education, research method of the mathematics education, methods of teaming and teaching, and finally measurements and evaluation\ulcorner We classified papers into two kinds. One is related to the educational contents, consisting of the methods of learning and teaching, and of the measurement and evaluation. The other is reined to the methods of research, which is not a part of the educational curriculum but is essential for establishing the identity of mathematics education. According to the periods, papers on the curricular contents in 1960s were influenced by the New Mathematics, and papers on the curricular contents in 1980s were influenced by 'back to basic'. In 1990s, papers on methods of learning and teaching, and measurement md evaluation were increasing in number. Besides, (series A) from the Journal of Korea Society of Mathematical Education covers contents, methods of Loaming and teaching, and measurement and evaluation. And when I examined the papers on the contents of textbook of a junior high school related to the probability and statistics education and on methods of learning and teaching, 1 found that those papers occupy 1.84% in . When it comes to the methods of loaming and teaching, most of studies in (series A) are about application of concrete implement like experiment and practical application of computer programs, Through this study, I found that over-all and more active researches on probability and statistics are required and that the studies about methods of loaming and teaching must be made in diverse directions. It is needed that how students recognize probability and statistics, connection, communication and representation in probability and statistics context, too. (series A) does not have papers on methods of study. Mathematics pedagogy is a mixture of various studies - mathematical psychology, mathematical philosophy, the history of mathematics and Mathematics. So If there doesn't exist a proper method of study adequate in the situation for the mathematics education the issue of mathematics pedagogy might be taken its own place by that of other studies'. We must search for the unique method of study fur mathematics education so that mathematics pedagogy has its own identity as a study. The study concerning this aspect is needed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the statistical indicators of OECD and Korea for student health among Korea's approval statistics. Methods: Searching for health indicators by using Health at a Glance 2009, Society at a Glance 2009, and Education at a Glance 2009 through the formal OECD web site in 2010, and investigating the approval statistics through the Korean formal organizational web sites and published data in 2012. Results: Among OECD indicators, indicators for adolescent health were smoking and alcohol consumption, nutrition, physical activity, overweight and obesity, bullying, risk behaviors, and poverty children. However, most of Korea student health indicators were missing except poverty children and life satisfaction, because OECD has taken chiefly data from Health Behavior in School-aged Children survey (HBSC), international study, which has not been carried out in Korea. The Ministry Of Education, Science And Technology (MEST) and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and National Youth Policy Institute in Korea have produced the major statistics for student health which was only 11 (1.3%) among 858 approval statistics. Conclusion: Identifying a current Korea school health is essential through participating actively to OECD whose statistic indicators are internationally comparable with Students Physical Development Survey, MEST's approval statistics, using Korea Student Health Examination. It was also suggested that quantitative and qualitative expansions for Korea student health statistics by the activation of approval statistics including processed statistics, and by researchers' easy expanded access to a raw data.

The purpose of this study is to analyze effects on storytelling materials of statistics in the middle school classroom lesson. For this purpose, a story is developed by the Zazkis & Liljedahl's model and applied to the 7th graders of 4 classes in a middle school. After the comparison between 5 hours of storytelling lessons and ordinary lessons, the following research findings are obtained. First, storytelling material brings a positive effect on student's academic achievement. It is also shown by the qualitative analysis that this result was caused by cognition of data observation, data transformation, and unification of data with context. Second, storytelling material brings a positive effect on student's affective attitude. It is also validated by the qualitative analysis that students show the positive change in mathematical value cognition and the interests in the lesson.

The study was first part of the research on development of consumer education program as social education program. The purpose of this study was to review social consumer education programs conducted by various organizations and to examine the consulting statistics from Korea Consumer Protection Board and Korea National Council of Consumer Organizations. In Consumer Protection Board, consumer education was operated mainly for both college students majored in consumer studies and public-sector workers. Outgoing education was provided mainly to the persons in industries and housewives. Other consumer organizations conducted consumer education using government funds. The organizations considered 'purchasing' and 'consumerism' most frequently as the topics for the education. 'Credit' and 'insurance' were another main concerns at the education. The consulting statistics showed that 'mobile communication', 'laundry service', 'health foods', and 'educational materials for foreign language' took the largest portion of the consumer consulting. Some implications were made for developing consumer education program as social education.

This study was to investigate the effect of the statistics education program for the test-free semester. Two tests of questionnaires were used after revising some items for the subjects and statistical contents covered according to the purpose of the study during the 2nd semester, 2016. one was for finding students' attitude toward statistics and the other for understanding my career exploration. The statistics education program was developed for 5 lesson units and was applied to two classes with 53 students of one middle school in Gyeonggi-province. The results showed that students' understanding on career exploration was improved especially, in self understanding, perceiving career world related to statistics, and economical & educational understanding in statistical career. Also, the three areas such as interest, value, and effort among five areas about students' statistical attitude which was measured by the attitude test revised from the previous study, were improved with statistical significance. Moreover, we analyzed the degree of students' satisfaction over the program. Most of students were satisfied with the program saying that "I could not believe it is over now. The time has gone so fast." or "My mentor(a pre-service teacher) helped me a lot." Therefore, the program for the test-free semester should include the contents for exploring future-career and relating to real life.
