  • This research intends to find out the impact of housing wealth of home-owning pre-retirees and older adults consisting of young-old, middle-old and old-old groups on their household consumption. In doing so, this research analyzes 2,350 home-owning households by utilizing the 17th Korean Labour and Income Panel Study (KLIPS). The results show that housing wealth has a statistically significant effect on non-durable consumption of the pre-retirees, and young-old and middle-old groups of older adults, and housing wealth has a much stronger effect on household expenditure than does financial wealth or real estate. It's found that the consumption elasticity is particularly greater for female-headed households living in SMA, residing in apartments, holding a lower debt-to-asset ratio and being a pensioner. The empirical findings imply that the old-old group of older adults is unlikely to actively tap into their housing windfalls since housing asset becomes the last to dispose in the course of an individual's life. As housing wealth effects are especially strong when liquidity constraints faced by older adults are removed, it's of significance to substantially reduce household debt before retirement in order to constantly maintain an adequate level of household consumption or to promptly prepare for future contingencies.

  • This study uses [the instrument of ageing anxiety] in order to find if a negative prejudice against the old affects the attitude toward sex of the aged. The result shows no significant relation between ageing anxiety and the knowledge of and attitude toward sex of the aged. However, it does show that the higher the ageing anxiety is, the lower the knowledge of sex and the more restrictive the attitude toward it. The knowledge of and attitude toward sex of the aged shows meaninggul changes after education. Nursing students who were educated come to have more knowledge about and are more open to it. This result supports the preposition of this study. As society grows older the endeavour to guarantee a high-quality life for the old is necessary and the old should be regarded as an entity which has its own characteristic desires. Especially for the old to enjoy a good life as a sexual being, the mystical barriers about sex and old age ought to be removed. In the future the old themselves may maintain sexual desires regardless of age and society will be required to correct its prejudice against the old having sex. Particularly nursing students, as an effort to provide the old with overall care, should examine the elderly's sexual desires in a physical, psychological, and social context and consider the normal sexual changes occuring during the aging process and finally integrate this information into their nursing plans. In order to fulfill this role successfully they should overcome their own prejudice and educate themselves about this particular problem. As the proportion of the old becomes bigger and the concern about the quality of their life grows, sex among the old will become more important in the nursing field. By putting an educational mediation programme into operation with nursing students and estimating the effect, this study supplies the foundation to activate new educational programmes. In short it tells us that education can be a practical method to confront the myth and conventions concerning sex among the aged.

  • The present study was designed to investigate the morphological developments of the stomach in the prenatal and postnatal rats. The gastric fundus of 16- to 22-day-old fetuses, neonates, 7-day-old, 14-day-old, 21-day-old, and adult rats were observed by transmission electron microscopy. 1. In the 19-day-old fetuses, the gastric pits and the parietal cells were the primitive state, but the parietal cells contained numerous microvilli and mitochondria. 2. In the 20-day-old fetuses, the intracellular canaliculus appeared in the parietal cells, and glycogen granules were localized mainly in the basal part of the epithelial cells and parietal cells. 3. In the 20-day-old fetuses, the mucous granules and zonular occludens appeared in the gastric glandular cells adjacent to the parietal cells. 4. In the 21-day-old fetuses, the chief cells were identified in the lamina propria and these cells contained granular endoplasmic reticulum and zymogen granules. 5. In the 20- to 22-day-old fetuses, the definitive parietal cells were firstly appeared in pairs or groups within the lamina propria. These cells tended to be placed near the basement membrane and blood capillary, and frequently tended to be extruded into lumen of gland. 6. The endocrine cells were appeared at the basal areas of the gastric gland after the 14-day-old.

  • Background: We performed this meta-analysis to assess the effectiveness and safety of axillary dissection in old women. Methods: The Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database were searched and all randomized controlled trials of axillary dissection in old women (at least 60 years old) were considered. Meta-analyses were completed using RevMan5.1. Results: Three eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) including 5,337 patients were considered. There was weak evidence in favour of axillary dissection (AD) in old women. The meta-analysis showed that the overall survival (OS) after 1, 3, 5 and 7 years and the disease free survival (DFS) after 1, 3 and 5 year were not statistically significantly different between AD and no AD groups. However, there was a difference in the 7 year DFS. Conclusions: Axillary dissection did not provide survival benefit to the old women with breast cancer analysed. Therefore, axillary dissection is not well-indicated in old women with breast cancer.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the nutritional status of 3~5 year old children attending kindergarten and childcare facilities in 2010 and 2014. Methods: Data were obtained from the 2010 and 2014 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES) and included 509 subjects aged 3~5 years old attending kindergarten and childcare facilities. Results: In 2014, rate of skipping meals by children was 16.2%, an increase of 5.5% compared with the rate of skipping meals by children in 2010. Calcium intake in 2014 was 397.41 mg at 3 years old, 419.27 mg at 4 years old, and 414.01 mg at 5 years old. For the mean nutrient adequacy ratio (MAR) of subjects in 2010 and 2014, MAR at 3 years old (0.86) was significantly lower than those at 4 and 5 years old (0.90, 0.91) (p < 0.01). In 2010 and 2014, EAR intake at 3 years old (2.72) was significantly higher than those at 4 years old (2.14) and 5 years olds (1.92) (p < 0.01). Conclusion: As a result, compared with 2010 before establishment of the Children's foodservice management center, there was no improvement in the polarization of nutrient intake of children in 2014. Therefore, researchers believe that a continuous monitoring system developed by nutrition experts and children's foodservice management center are needed to improve the nutritional status of children. Of children between the ages of 3~5 years old, those with intakes under EAR were mostly 3 years old. Therefore, researchers suggest that the infant age group of KDRIs, which is classified as 1~2 years old and 3~5 years old, needs to be reestablished considering the growth and development of infants.

  • We have used the Naju Oryang-dong Kiln, the Jar coffin producing center from the 5th to early 6th century A.D. found for the first time in Korea in 2002 and conducted trace element analysis of Jar coffin objects excavated in Jar coffin the old tomb area formed mainly around Yeongsan valley, the consuming area of the same period as our main research objects. For this analysis, we have used both the NAA method, the non-parametric micro-minerals analysis. In order to compare and verify these remains, we have used the results from the analysis on the Jar coffin remains in the Mandong remains, Jeonbuk district. We have quantitatively analyzed 17 types of elements from the Jar coffin remains sample to allow for various and correct analysis. With their results, we could find out that the jar coffins made in Oryang-dong kiln teo are statistically identical to those in Daean-ri Old tomb/Shinchon-ri 9th old tomb, Okya-ri old tomb, and Banam-Old tomb. Also, we can conclude that there is a high possibility that ongwans produced from Oryang-dong kiln being used in Daean-ri Old tomb/Shinchon-ri 9th old tomb, Okya-ri old tomb, and Banam-Old tomb was distributed through some form of trade. On the other hand, we could obtain other analysis results that jar coffins excavated and investigated in the Mandong remains and Ithe npyong Old tomb were likely from other Jar coffin kilns through trade and distribution.
