  • In this paper, we analyzed the utilization trend of technology in the secondary mathematics textbooks based on the 6th, 7th and 2007 revised mathematics curriculums in Korea. We analyzed 30, 60 and 90 mathematics books based on the 6th, 7th and 2007 revised mathematics curriculums respectively. The analysis focused on three aspects of using technology, i.e., contents areas in which technology used, technological tools and programs used, and methods of using technology in teaching and learning mathematics. The results shows that the frequency of using technology in mathematics books has been increased as mathematics curriculum has been revised. In the mathematics books based on th 6th curriculum, only 25 scenes were found, but in 7th and 2007 revised curriculum 248 and 355 scenes were found. In the 6th curriculum, calculators and graphing calculators were used mainly, but in the 7th and 2007 revised curriculum many kinds of technological tools and softwares were used including CAS, dynamic geometry software, spreadsheets, programming language, and the Internet. Especially the internet was used frequently in the 7th curriculum. And the methods of using technology has been diversified as time passed. In the 6th curriculum, the technology mainly used for introducing technology and simple calculation, but in the 7th and 2007 revised curriculum the technologies and software were also used for understanding mathematical laws, principles and concepts and students-centered exploring the mathematical properties.

  • The goal of the textbooks of 2009 revised curriculum is to make customized lectures possible considering learning characteristics and understanding level of students. However, it is not easy to find a research result on sensed difficulty of the mathematics textbook, which is able to provide valuable information on the development of the diverse level textbooks. This research suggested criteria in analysing sensed difficulties of field teachers on the textbooks, and analysed sensory difficulty on the selective tracks textbooks based on 2007 revised mathematics curriculum using the criteria. The results of the analysis on 59 mathematics selective tracks textbooks show that all have average sensed difficulty. The criteria and research results are expected to provide valuable information in future mathematics textbook development.

  • If the philosophy of the curriculum is changed when the curriculum is revised, discussion about knowledge viewpoints in the changed philosophy is needed. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze elementary mathematics textbooks(EMT) based on the perspective of constructivism knowledge as basic philosophy of the 7th curriculum and the 2007 revised curriculum and to present aim of textbooks development through the results. According to the results, the number and operation units of 1st and 2nd grades of EMT compiled according to the 7th curriculum and the 2007 revised curriculum didn't reflect the perspective of constructivism knowledge as the philosophy of the curriculum. From the analysis, EMT were not composed so as to agree the perspective of constructivism knowledge that emphasize concepts, conceptua1 principles, variety, integration.

  • The Korean mathematical curriculum has been changed three times during the resent five years. It led to changes in textbook system. In the 2007 revised mathematics curriculum, workbook was developed focusing on student's self-oriented learning, effective practice in differentiated classroom, and mathematics problem solving considering individual difference. This paper examines the characteristics of the tasks and the way the tasks are organized in the textbooks and the workbook in accordance with the 2007 revised mathematics curriculum; comparing with the function section before and after the amendment. Researchers examine whether the textbook and workbook were accomplished the purpose with "cognitive expectation", "level of cognitive demand", "and "response types". Researchers revised framework of [Son, J. W. & Senk, S. (2010). How reform curricula in the USA and Korea present multiplication and division of fraction. Educ. Stud. Math 74(2), 117-142] to make them suitable for the function section at the seventh grade.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the elementary school mathematics textbooks according to the mathematics curriculum revised in 2007 which put emphasis on mathematics as a communication, and to find out the implication for improving the mathematics textbook of Korea. Mathematics textbooks are analyzed by five analysis criteria, which are suitability of communication activities, suitability of usage of terms and symbols, suitability of literary expressions, suitability of visual expressions and adequateness of mathematics and curriculum. As a result of analysis, it is found out that communication activities were generally reflected the intent of curriculum but there were incomplete terms usage and literary, visual expressions. So communication among authors, between authors and writers, authors and illustrators is necessary for improvement of mathematics textbooks.

  • Maximum and minimum have a historical background in mathematics and occupy an important part of the differential unit in school mathematics. As the curriculum is revised, there are changes and problems in the way definition introduced. Therefore, this study analyzes the changes in the method of introducing maximum and minimum definitions following the reorganization of the 2007 and 2009 revised mathematics curriculum, and analyzes the differences in maximum and minimum definition methods compared to the nine mathematics II textbooks in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum and three real analysis. In addition, methods to improve the terms used in relation to the maximum and minimum values are presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a contents when we are going to introduce cryptography and information security for vocational high school students. For this we do a survey of the students' level for understanding of information security and the 7th curriculum for school mathematics, 2007 revised curriculum for school mathematics, the curriculum for vocational high school, and we search for the material that connects between mathematics subjects and vocational subjects. We develop a text book that introduces information security and cryptography. After we teach vocational high school students by using this developed book, we get the result that learning cryptography with computer programming makes a good motivation of learning mathematics and roles a parameter between mathematics curriculum and vocational curriculum. As a result we propose that the developed contents can be used in 'Practical Mathematics' in the 7th curriculum for school mathematics or 'Application of Mathematics' in 2007 revised curriculum for school mathematics.

  • Problem posing activity was mentioned and enhanced in the newly revised mathematics curriculum in 2007. It is important to know which types of problem posing activities are involved in the textbook and workbook and what the results that students perform activities in the textbook and workbook during the regular classes are. This study surveys the types of problem posing activities in the 4-1 textbook and workbook revised in 2007, analyzes contents that students perform with related to problem posing activities of the textbook and workbook, and suggests some educational implications.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyse the essence of proportional reasoning and to analyse the contents of the textbooks according to the mathematics curriculum revised in 2007, and to seek the direction for developing the proportional reasoning in the elementary school mathematics focused the task variables. As a result of analysis, it is found out that proportional reasoning is one form of qualitative and quantitative reasoning which is related to ratio, rate, proportion and involves a sense of covariation, multiple comparison. Mathematics textbooks according to the mathematics curriculum revised in 2007 are mainly examined by the characteristics of the proportional reasoning. It is found out that some tasks related the proportional reasoning were decreased and deleted and were numerically and algorithmically approached. It should be recognized that mechanical methods, such as the cross-product algorithm, for solving proportions do not develop proportional reasoning and should be required to provide tasks in a wide range of context including visual models.

  • This study explored the changes in storytelling styles in high school first-year textbooks between the 2007 Revised National Curriculum of Mathematics and the 2015 Revised National Curriculum of Mathematics. The results are indicated as follows. First, the quantitative aspect of storytelling gradually increased in the textbook aligned with the 2015 Revised National Curriculum of Mathematics. Second, as for types of storytelling, the real-life connection and academic convergence types appeared most frequently, followed by mathematical history inquiry types, decision-making types, and tool utilization types. Third, storytelling appeared most frequently in 'main-body' of a lesson in terms of textbook content composition, followed by 'introduction', 'lesson materials', and 'evaluation'. This study implies that more diverse stories need to be developed; including the mathematical history inquiry types, the decision-making types and the tool use types. Textbooks should be organized not that the piecemeal storytelling presented in 'introduction' of a lesson but that a coherent story penetrates the entire unit to be utilized until the end of the lesson.
