  • The effects of fractures in rock masses on the groundwater flow and the groundwater flow system in the volcanic rocks are analyzed by GFFP-WT model, which allows more realistic analysis of groundwater system by considering the fractures in rock masses. The evaluation of the effects of fractures in rock masses on the groundwater flow has been carried out in the 2nd Yeonwha and resulted in that the fractures mostly influence flow time because of hydraulic head distribution change. The results of the groundwater flow system analysis in the volcanic rocks are as follows. Most of groundwater once flowed in Lapilli tuff flowed out through Lappilli tuff layer. But only a small fraction of water flowed out through crystal tuff layer.

  • Peptide mass mapping is the matching of experimentally generated peptides masses with the predicted masses of digested proteins contained in a database. To identify proteins by matching their constituent fragment masses to the theoretical peptide masses generated from a protein database, the peptide mass fingerprinting technique is used for the protein identification. Thus, it is important to know the theoretical mass distribution of the database. However, few researches have reported the peptide mass distribution of a database. We analyzed the peptide mass distribution of non-redundant protein sequence database in the NCBI after digestion with 15 different types of enzymes. In order to characterize the peptide mass distribution with different digestion enzymes, a power law distribution (Zipfs law) was applied to the distribution. After constructing simulated digestion of a protein database, rank-frequency plot of peptide fragments was applied to generalize a Zipfs law curve for all enzymes. As a result, our data appear to fit Zipfs law with statistically significant parameter values.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate pulpal responses to tricalcium phosphate and durapatite which recently introduced as a bone substitute. Tricalcium phosphate and durapatite were placed on the amputated pulp tissue in the dog's teeth. Animals were sacrificed after 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks and specimens were decalcified, embedding, sectioned and stained routinly. Microscopic examination reveals as follows; 1. Tricalcium phosphate: Severe inflammatory change was seen in the all cases and calcified masses were seen at 2 weeks. Calcified masses were enlarged according to the time elapsed. 2. Durapatite: Severe inflammatory change and pus cavities were found at 1 week. There was no evidence of healthy cell component in the remaining pulp tissue and degenerative change was obvious at 2, 3 and 4 weeks. 3. Dentin bridge was not formed in the both cases. In the case of tricalcium phosphate osteoblasts were observed unevenly around the calcified masses which were composed of hematophilic substance in central portion and eosinophilic substance in peripheral region of the masses.

  • This paper describes the computed tomographic features of ovarian masses in dogs. The CT images of female dogs with a confirmed histological diagnosis of ovarian tumors or ovarian cystic diseases were studied retrospectively. Seven dogs met the inclusion criteria. The morphological features of ovarian tumors and ovarian cystic diseases coincided to a certain degree, but ovarian tumors tended to be predominantly solid. Objective measurements of Hounsfield units (HU) suggest that benign lesions may show lower HU values than malignant tumors and mild contrast enhancement because of the small soft tissue composition. CT is useful for a differential diagnosis of ovarian masses by providing additional information on the imaging features of the masses and an evaluation of metastases.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a novel method which can analysis a rotating elastically restrained blade with concentrated masses located in an arbitrary position. 1:he equations of motion are derived and transformed into a dimensionless form to investigate general phenomena. For the modeling of the multi-concentrated masses, the Dirac delta function is used for the mass density function. Simulation results show that the vibration characteristics of elastic restrained blade of according to dimensionless variables for example, multiple masses magnitude and mass location ratio. This method can be applied to an practical rotating blade system required to more accurate results.

  • Pulmonary masses were observed in the thoracic cavity of a 9-year-old female Korean native cattle (Hanwoo) encountered at a Jeju, Korea slaughterhouse. Grossly, the thoracic cavity was filled with pulmonary masses. Histologically, the neoplastic masses were composed of many abnormal papillary structures lined by single to double columnar neoplastic cells and formed arborizing fronds supported by significant fibrovascular stroma. The neoplastic cells showed strong destructive and infiltrative growth to adjacent tissues and were strongly positive for pan-cytokeratin (CK), CK 7 and sporadically positive for CK MNF116. The masses in the female Hanwoo were diagnosed as a papillary pattern of pulmonary adenocarcinoma.

  • A mixed case of multiple sebaceous gland adenoma and perianal gland adenoma was found in a 11-year-old male Shih Tzu dog. Grossly, many masses less than 1 cm in diameter of back skin and single red-brown mass about 0.5 cm in diameter of inner ear were noted. In addition one of light-pink mass 5 cm in diameter was presented in the anus. All of the masses were well demarcated and dome-shaped or papillated nodules. Histologically, the mass from back and ear were composed with multiple irregular shaped or sized lobules of sebaceous glands. Masses were containing mostly mature sebaceous cells and multifocal cystic degeneration with acellular and bright eosinophilic materials. And the mass from peri-anal area was well-circumscribed and composed of broad, anastomosing trabeculae of well-differentiated hepatoid cells. There were very low mitotic figures in all masses. Based on these results, this case was diagnosed as the multiple sebaceous gland adenoma and perianal gland adenoma.

  • Transverse vibrations of axially moving beams with multiple concentrated masses have been investigated. It is assumed that the beam is of Euler-Bernoulli type, and both ends of it have simply supports. Concentrated masses are equally distributed on the beam. This system is formulated mathematically and then sought to find out approximately solutions of the problem. Method of multiple scales has been used. It is assumed that axial velocity of the beam is harmonically varying around a mean-constant velocity. In case of primary resonance, an analytical solution is derived. Then, the effects of both magnitude and number of the concentrated masses on nonlinear vibrations are investigated numerically in detail.

  • The paper presents both theoretical and experimental study fur dynamic instabilities of a vortical cantilevered pipe with two attached lumped masses conveying fluid. The two attached lumped masses can be considered as valves or some mechanical paras in real pipe systems. Eigenvalue behaviors depending on the flow velocity are investigated for the change of Positions and magnitudes of an attached lumped mass and a tip mass. In order to verify appropriate of numerical solutions, experiments were accomplished. Theoretical predictions have a good agreement with experimental ones.
