Identification and Phylogenetic Analysis of the Human Endogenous Retrovirus HERV-W LTR Family in Placenta cDNA Library

  • Human endoqenous retroviral long terminal repeats (LTRs) have been found to be coexpressed with sequences of genes closely located nearby. It has been suggested that the LTR elements have contributed to structural changes or genetic variations of human genome connected to various diseases and evolution. Using cDNA library derived from placenta tissue, we performed PCR amplification and identified five new HERV-W LTR elements. Those LTR elements showed a high degree of sequence similarity (98-99%) with HERV-W LTR (AF072500). A phylogenetic tree obtained by the neighbor-joining method revealed that HERV-W LTR elements could be mainly divided into two groups through evolutionary divergence. Five new HERV-W LTR elements (pla-1, 4, 5, 6, 7) belonged to the group I with AX000960, AF072504, and AF072506 from GenBank database. The data suggest that several copy numbers of the HERV-W LTR elements are transcribed in placenta and may contribute to the understanding of biological function such as human placental morphogenesis.

  • This study compares the visual elements of the top five global beer brands currently in the Chinese market with those of the top five Chinese beer brands. The purpose of the research is to identify the importance of visual elements in the label design of beer package and to present the direction of efficient label design. To this end, it is a brand among visual elements of beer label design, and it investigates the label design of Chinese beer and global beer brand through the multi-accelerated comparative analysis method, focusing on color, illustration and layout, and analyzes the difference of elements appearing in the global beer label design from China by utilizing the recursive five-point scale. According to the research, the visual elements used in the Chinese beer brand were more complex compared to the global beer brand, and most layouts were similar, making the product less differentiated. On the other hand, the global beer brand has secured brand identity and differentiation based on its iconic visual elements and diversity of layout. In order to establish itself as a strong brand in consumers' minds, the Chinese beer brand needs differentiated label design through active use of unique brand design.

  • In the field of the theory about constitution(體質), the theory of 'Yun Qi(運氣) has close relations hip with the formation of theory of constitution. It is seen in the chapter 'Osangjungdae-ron("五常政大論")' that the theory of influenced the theory of constitution and talent by the 'Concept of Evaporation(氣化)'. In the chapter 'Yin-Yang twenty five men types' of the book the 'Ling Shu("靈樞")' the twenty five constitution types by the theory of 'Yan Qi is stated. And in the book 'Nei Ching("內經")' the constitution types of five elements' motion is described. In the theory of the 'five elements' motion and six kinds of natural factors' had such a problem that the individuals having the same born year and Qi had the same prescriptions irrespective of each other's constitution. So for the resolution of this problem the constitution theory of 'Yun Qi' had been formed by the mediation of the 'MyengRiHak(命理學)' and the theory of 'Yun Qi' in the book the 'OUnYukKiHanYeHakBoGam("五運六氣韓醫學寶鑑")'. But following problems should be resolved in chrono-inedieine. Those are the difference of men who has born in some year-day-time, each 'Yun Qi's brea king point, local time, summer time, living circumstances, twins, the concept of 'Zhung Won(中元)', etc.

Development of 3-D Dynamic Infinite Elements for 3D Soil-Structure Interaction Analysis in Multi-layered Halfspaces (적층 반무한지반에서 3차원 지반-구조물 상호작용해석을 위한 동적 무한요소의 개발)

  • In this paper, three dimensional dynamic infinite elements are developed for the soil-structure interaction analysis in multi-layered halfspace. For the efficient discretization of 3-D for field regions, five types of dynamic infinite elements are developed. They are the horizontal, vertical, upper horizontal conner, lower vertical conner and conner of conner infinite elements. The shape functions of the infinite elements are based on the approximate expressions of the analytical solutions of the propagating waves in the infinite region. Numerical example analyses are presented for demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed infinite elements.

Problem-dependent cubic linked interpolation for Mindlin plate four-node quadrilateral finite elements

  • We employ the so-called problem-dependent linked interpolation concept to develop two cubic 4-node quadrilateral plate finite elements with 12 external degrees of freedom that pass the constant bending patch test for arbitrary node positions of which the second element has five additional internal degrees of freedom to get polynomial completeness of the cubic form. The new elements are compared to the existing linked-interpolation quadratic and nine-node cubic elements presented by the author earlier and to the other elements from literature that use the cubic linked interpolation by testing them on several benchmark examples.

  • This research aimed for revealing social interaction-based environmental learning elements at the natural history museum. First, we carried out a survey of the perceptual change about 'the environment' concept. It was for confirming whether environmental learning occurred in visiting. Second, we found environmental learning elements through analyzing dialogues among small group members during looking around the museum. Social interaction-based environmental learning elements were classified into five; knowledge, affection, value, skill, behaviour. Each environmental learning element included several sub-elements, so we revealed totally 9 environmental learning sub-elements. By results, we said characteristics and possibility of the natural history museum as an informal environmental educational institution. It is meaningful for extending areas of environmental education.

  • This paper presents 3D infinite elements in Cartesian coordinates for the elastodynamic problem in multi-layered half-space. Five kinds of infinite elements are developed by using approximate expressions of multiple wave components for the wave function in exterior far-field soil region. They are horizontal, horizontal-corner, vertical, vertical-corner and vertical-horizontal-corner elements. The elements can be used for the multi-wave propagating problem. Numerical example analyses are presented for rigid disk, square footings and embedded footing on homogeneous and layered half-space. The numerical results obtained show the effectiveness of the proposed infinite elements.

  • In "Lu's Spring and Autumn", the ideas of all the schools before Qin Dynasty were compiled and the diagram of the Trinity of heaven, earth and man using the category of Yin-yang and the five elements of the universe since the ancient times was established. This can be assessed to be the blueprint for a unified empire closely connecting time and space, and objects in heaven and on earth centered around human beings. In specific, Yin-yang and the five elements of the universe were combined to categorize and schematize all things in the universe, and connect them to human affairs at the same time. Its contents convert almost all academic fields including politics, economics, society, military, astronomy, geography, medical science, education and history. Particularly, the documents popular during the age of civil wars and the ideas of Jikha scholars were synthesized and specified. Yet, it went beyond simple collection of the thoughts and documents since the ancient times in terms of contents and forms, and the method of 12 months for 1 year was selected and prescript was expanded to the various fields of politics and the society. In the Twelve principle, Yin-yang and the five elements, and the ten celestial stems and the earthly ones were combined, the contradiction from the process was solved, and the Rules of Four Seasons Thought was completed. Therefore, even though some parts of the idea of Yin-yang and the five elements in "Lu's Spring and Autumn" is found here and there from other documents, the unificative systematization of the whole has an important meaning in the history of thought. In summary, it has been proved that the Rules of Four Seasons Thought in "Lu's Spring and Autumn" was not limited to the physical unity of Yin-yang and the five elements of the universe, but qualitatively specified particularly in the aspects of agriculture from the people's side and politics from a leader's position.
