  • A survey was carried out to investigate the breastfeeding knowledge, breastfeeding rates ultra related factors among women in Seoul and the Chungbuk area, in order to obtain baseline data for the development of an education program on breastfeeding. Subjects included 671 lactating mothers who visited public health or pediatric centers, between December, 1999 and February, 2000 and were interviewed using a questionnaire. The results are as follows: In the breastfeeding knowledge, most of the subjects (93.4%) know correctly that 'breastfeeding is better for a baby's emotional development than formula feeding,'whereas only half of the subjects (51.7%) answered correctly the question on whether 'formula is more nutritious than breastmilk.'The breastfeeding rates were about 57%, 40%, 33% and 12%, respectively for baby's aged 1, 3, 6, and 12 months. These results showed that the breastfeeding rate rapidly decreased with the baby's age. Lower breastfeeding rates were associated with high educational level (college graduate and above), high income, mothers'employment, no experience of attending breastfeeding education programs, and no planning on breastfeeding prior to pregnancy. There was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and breastfeeding practice; the higher the knowledge score, the higher the breastfeeding rate. In conclusion, an education program should be developed and offered for each low breastfeeding rate group, in order to promote breastfeeding.

As a result, in dietary life characteristics, females with higher education in their 40s and 50s and with a high income level, married women, and women thinking are subjectively healthy and show a statistically significant difference compared to other groups. Next, a correlation analysis is conducted to examine the relationship between independent variables and dietary life. The results showed a positive relationship with all variables, and a high correlation in the sales recognition of homegrown products (r=.384), the recognition of a food environment (r=.349), the recognition of food welfare (r=.325), and the recognition of food safety (r=.322). Factors that influence dietary life are extracted and the causal relationship is verified through multiple regression analysis of which the dependent variable is dietary life. In a regression model of dietary life, the researcher finds the trend that explanation power increases by models that the variable group is added in an individual model ($R^2$ is changed from .090 to .215 and from .250 to .273). Subsequently, age, level of education, recognition about value of organic agricultural product, recognition about the sales of homegrown products, recognition of food environment, recognition of food safety, and recognition of food insecurity are factors that influence the dietary life of women.

Methods: A total of 159 nursing students (85 in the simulation group and 74 in the NICU group) participated in the study. Research tools measuring practice stress and practice satisfaction were used. Data was analyzed utilizing a t-test, Mann Whitney U-test, and descriptive statistics. Results: The simulation group showed a lower level of practice stress(practice instruction, practice evaluation, interpersonal relationship) a higher level of practice satisfaction compared with the NICU group. Conclusion: Simulation-based practice is an effective learning method for high-risk newborn nursing and can be used as an alternative to clinical practice.

Nutrition education was given once a week and dance sports were done twice a week for 3 months. Nutrient intakes were assessed by 24-hour recall method and food records. Dietary habits and nutrition knowledge were investigated by self-administered questionnaires before and after the intervention program. Body and blood compositions were measured before and after the program. The nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) was significantly increased in energy, protein, vitamin A, vitamin B2 and calcium, mean adequacy ration (MAR) was significantly increased (p < 0.05), and also the index of nutritional quality (INQ) was significantly increased in protein (p < 0.01). Percent (%) RIs of protein (p < 0.01) and calcium (p < 0.05) were significantly increased and body weight (p < 0.001), body fat (p < 0.01), soft lean mass (p < 0.01) and BMI (p < 0.001) decreased. Over the 3-month study, there was a significant trend toward higher HDL-C and albumin levels and lower LDL-C level (p < 0.001). The results showed that nutrition education and exercise intervention could improve the body health and the diet quality.

  • Purpose: This study aims to determine obstetrics nurses knowledge, attitude, and practice about breast cancer and breast self-examination (BSE), and to contribute to the early detection of breast cancer during breastfeeding periods. Methods: For the survey, 163 individuals (obstetric nurses) were chosen by convenience sampling and agreed to participate in the study. Their knowledge, attitude, and practice about breast cancer and BSE. Results: Knowledge and attitude averaged $70.45{\pm}10.90$ (of 100) and $3.64{\pm}0.27$ (of 5), respectively. While most nurses (99%) recognized the importance of BSE, only 58.9% experienced BSE. BSE practice level averaged $8.35{\pm}1.96$ (of 12). Only 20.2% had recommended BSE to their clients. Practice level varied significantly for different marital status, breastfeeding experience, and education, while knowledge and attitude remained independent. Nurses who had experienced mammogram or breast ultrasonogram themselves scored higher in knowledge. Attitude was higher for nurses who received recommendation for BSE, performed BSE, received BSE education, or recommended BSE to clients. Practice level was higher for nurses who received BSE education or willing to perform BSE in future. Practice level had a positive correlation with attitude but no correlation to knowledge. Conclusion: Obstetric nurses need continuing education for practicing BSE. Practical BSE education can not only promote preventive behavior of nurses, but it can also improve the breast health management of obstetrical clients.

Data were collected through self-administered questionnaire survey form 133 middle-aged women. The data collection was done from March 2nd to April 10th, 2012. As a results, there were significant differences in fatigue by education level and menstrual status. And, there were significant differences in family function according to education level and marital status. Also, there were significant differences in self-esteem by education level, marital status and monthly income. Fatigue was negatively related to family function and self-esteem. And family function was positively related to self-esteem. These results suggest that nursing intervention should be developed to strengthen family function and self-esteem as a way to regulate fatigue for middle-aged women in menopausal periods.
