  • This study sought to identify the types of fashion brands preferred by tourists based on the shopping values that they pursue through purchases at tourist destinations and to verify the effects of these values on their satisfaction. To obtain a representative sample of South Korea's tourist shoppers, a survey was conducted among 300 subjects involving adult men and women in their twenties to sixties. Structural equation modeling analyses were performed on the collected data using SPSS and AMOS. The effects of tourist shopping values on brand attitudes were verified by dividing tourist shopping values into social, epistemic, and functional values and dividing brand attitudes into attitudes toward fashion global and local brands. Additionally, this work intended to ascertain the moderating effect of cosmopolitanism on tourist shopping behaviors. The analysis results reveal that a high level of epistemic value as perceived by tourists during shopping resulted in a corresponding high level of preference for local fashion brands. Furthermore, a high level of social value as perceived by tourists led to a high level of preference toward global fashion brands. Contrastingly, functional value influenced both local and global brands. As a result of the moderating effect, in the group with high cosmopolitanism tendency, the effect of epistemic value was not significant, but the low group significantly affected brand attitude based on the social and epistemic value. Given its academic and practical implications, the present study is likely to broaden the understanding of tourist shopping and facilitate future research on that phenomenon.

  • This paper addresses the central issue of whether it is effective for a firm to discourage the purchase of its own product in order to support a social cause. The objectives of this study were: a) to examine whether a cause-related self-prevention ad would stimulate more positive evaluations compared to promotional ad, particularly when the product category is more negatively socially accepted; and 2) to determine if a negative attitude toward the product could induce a boomerang effect of a selfprevention ad. Results from three experiments revealed that socially responsible prevention campaigns against firm's own product may be more effective for the product category negatively associated with social concerns or welfare. If products are more limited in the social context, communications of product prevention are beneficial to improve the public image of the brand. However, the self-hurting approach may be inappropriate for potential customers who currently possess a strong negative attitude toward the product.

  • In this study, it is explored how fashion brand slogans are categorized by linguistic characteristics and which linguistic characteristic is effective to improve consumer responses. Only 28% out of 1,346 fashion brands that are investigated are using slogans. Sportswear and men's wear are two product categories more often adopting slogans. A total of 11,113 consumers participated in the experimental study to evaluate slogan characteristics (familiarity, understandability, newness, pleasure), slogan attitude, and brand recall of 30 slogan-brand sets that were categorized by Park's 10 linguistic characteristics. In findings, slogans generating positive attitudes toward slogans and a good rate of brand recall tend to have no brand name in slogan, be written in the second-person view, include a futuristic message, and have information weighted on specialties. Slogan typology suggested based on results may be used for the future research as a basic guideline for the research on fashion brand slogans.

Six factors for the attitude toward shopping were found: information searching, shopping enjoyment, store patronage, impulse buying, brand-orientation and convenience. Buying motives for fashion goods were classified into 3 factors: for matching & occasion, to-be-in-fashion and for necessity. Four clusters were identified based on the attitude toward fashion: the fashion-interested, the fashion-indifferent, fashion leaders and the individuality-oriented. Among the groups, significant differences were found in information searching, shopping enjoyment and store patronage. Fashion leaders tended to spend more for expensive and up-to-dated fashion items, and for higher quantity than other groups. • Recently, there has been a growing trend toward private brand. Although much has been written about the determinants of attitude and purchase intention on PB, little is known about the influence of manufacturer and retailer trust on private brand purchase. This research addresses three questions:(1) what impact do manufacturer and retailer trust have on private brand purchase?(2) What is a key mediating variable in the relationship retailer between trust(on retailer/manufacture) and purchase intention?(3) Are the impacts of these factors differ depending on the level of customer knowledge? The findings indicate that retailer trust directly influence on the perceived quality, attitude toward private brand, and purchase intention. Manufacturer trust affects on attitude and purchase intention, however, only when it is through perceived quality. In addition, the relative impact of theses two factors differs to some extent, depending on the level of consumer knowledge. When customer knowledge is relatively high, retailer trust is a very important factor influencing perceived quality, attitude and purchase intention. On the other hand, both retailer trust and manufacturer trust are considered when customer knowledge on private brand is low.

  • In this complex marketing world, marketers find themselves having to grapple with difficult issues about branding and their brand management. In many cases, a deeper understanding of how consumers feel, think, and act could provide valuable guidance to address these brand-management challenges. The objective of this study is to conceptualize and test the framework of building fashion brand equity, utilizing Keller's CBBE Model as a theoretical framework and Kim and Lim's (2002) scale as a measurement model of fashion brand equity. We conducted a survey toward 696 university students using Kim and Lim's fashion brand equity scale. To test the hypothesized building paths of fashion brand equity, statistical analyses were performed with AMOS 4.1 program using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model. The results of this study were as follows. First, fashion brand equity was defined in terms of six components; customer-brand resonance, customer feeling, customer judgment, brand imagery. brand performance and brand awareness. Fashion brand equity was multi-dimensional brand attitude, which could be measured by 16 items. Consequently, Kim and Lim's scale acquired a statistical validity. Second, the proposed conceptual framework of this study was partially significant. We can provide an effectiveness of Keller's CBBE model to conceptualize the building process of fashion brand equity. Third, it was different between two brands to build fashion brand equity.

  • This study: 1) identifies differences in consumers' perceived similarity of extended products to their parent product in terms of brand attributes, 2) identifies the influence of the perceived similarity on consumer's attitude toward and purchase intention of extended products (i.e., brand extension effect), and 3) examines the moderating effect of Brand Relationship Quality (BRQ) on brand extension effects. A survey questionnaire was distributed to a convenience sample of individuals aged 20-39. A total of 576 valid responses were used for the final analysis. The results showed that: 1) the consumers perceived more similarity in the extended products when the extended products maintain more consistent attributes with their parent product, 2) the higher the perceived similarity was then the higher the brand extension effect, and 3) brand relationship quality moderated the influence of perceived similarity on attitude and purchase intention. When consumers build a high relationship quality with a brand, then the brand extension effect is likely to be high regardless of the perceived similarity of the extended products. This study consequently has its own contribution in that it empirically examined the brand extension effect in the fashion field and evidenced the role of BRQ in brand extension.
