  • The residential apartments have become a choice of a popular housing space since the first establishment of Mapo apartment in 1962. Therefore, the residential market experienced a bloom where residential apartments were sold as they were built simultaneously. However, this phenomenon was turned around and unsold lots appeared after the period of IMF and as the construction companies put out more various apartments by differing the characters and the strategies in building apartments. As a result, the leadership of residential market moved from the suppliers to consumers, in consequence, the wants of the consumers became more demanding. The consumer can freely control the number of rooms with a variable wall system or a bigger sized apartment with two entrances to the living room as well as having a bathroom with a master bedroom in a small-sized apartment. Many conceptual trials like this were taken to improve the residential environment and to give a change to the unit plan of the public housing. From these changes, one can observe a general trend that is taking place in current residential housing. Consequently, this study is on the type classification of unit plans in public housing built after 1999 and dwelled from 2001. The objectives of this study are to confirm the characteristics of the unit plans applied in recent public housing and provide basic materials that can be incorporated to residential space plan from now and hereafter.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the causes-effects of residential mobility and satisfaction. The research design employes a survey questionnaire for gathering a set of statistically-reasonable number of data among one million population of Ulsan metropolitan city. To make it more concrete, the attentions to be taken are on establishing (1) motives for moving (2) satisfaction factors in living, and (3) a relationship between houses and their environmental characteristics and the degree of satisfactions by them. The results of empirical analyses provide the following major findings: The most significant house-moving motivations were to achieve living-space at an affordable size or as wide as possible and to gain access to a comfortable and convenient environment. Per the residential satisfaction, highly respected factors were having good neighbors and active interactions with them and having good cooling-heating conditions, sunny rooms, and less noise and air pollution. Finally, the relation of house and its environment with the satisfaction indicated the following significant two: The higher the satisfaction, the shorter the duration of living and the history of construction. The less the satisfaction, the smaller the size of house and/or its complex.

  • Recently (2019), more than 3,800 schools have been closed in Korea due to the decrease in the number of students. Among them, 1,000 closed schools were used, 400 unused closed schools were sold, and the remaining 2,400 were sold. However, considering the absolute lack of elderly facilities due to the aging population, it seems necessary to recycle these public assets into elderly facilities. The purpose of this study is to explore the cases of remodeling closed schools in Japan and recycling them as elderly facilities, and to find ways to resolve the very serious shortage of elderly facilities while seeking measures to closed schools in Korea. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1) In the case of Shinagawa in Tokyo, it was easy to change its use because the building was owned by the old district. 2) The existing classroom space was used as it was to create an elderly living space consisting of two or three rooms and one bathroom unit. 3) In case 2, even if the earthquake-resistant structure was reinforced, the overall construction cost was reduced by 30% compared to the new construction.

  • Considering the characteristics of industrial machines that lack vehicle-induced wind, forced convection by a cooling fan is mostly required. Therefore, numerical analysis of an engine room is usually performed to examine the cooling performance in the room. However, most engine rooms consist of a number of parts and components at specific positions, leading to high costs for numerical modeling and simulation. In this paper, a new methodology for three-dimensional computer-assisted design simplification was proposed, especially for the pile of components and parts at the engine room outlet. A porous media model and regression analysis were used to derive a meta-model for imitating the flow rate reduction at the outlet by the pile. The results showed that the fitted model was reasonable considering the coefficient of determination. The final numerical model of the engine room was then used to simulate the velocity distribution by changing the mass flow rate at the outlet. The results showed that both velocity distributions were significantly changed in each case and the meta-model was valid in imitating the flow rate reduction by some piles of components and parts.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data necessary for improvement by closely examining factors of having influence upon dental technicians' turnover. Questionnaire survey was conducted of 204 dental technicians who work at dental hospitals, clinics and dental laboratory rooms in Daegu area. The following conclusions were obtained. The satisfaction with job was high in job position in more than co-representative, in the whole and other task, and in less than 9 hours as for working hours. In the satisfaction with working environment, dissatisfaction was high in women, in the working career with 7~9 years, in chief level as for the job position in charge, in being responsible for porcelain in case of the duty field, and in more than 10 people as for the number of employees. The higher satisfaction with job satisfaction and working environment led to the lower turnover intention. Turnover intention was low in case of having ventilation fan & dust collector desk and in case of being well ventilated inside the workshop. As the above results, it is considered to be necessary for arranging institutional device of protecting dental technicians' health and reducing turnover through improving working environment such as forming comfortable environment of using the dust-collecting facilities and the ventilation facilities, wearing suitable individual protective gear and arranging the rest space.

  • This study aims to analyze the current status and characteristics of apartment house unit plans towards spatial differentiation. The 172 house units from 32 housing complexes were selected for this analysis. In this study, factors of residential space plan especially in an apartment house are categorized into general characteristics on floor plan and factors for spatial floor plan. The Primary findings are as follows: (1) General characteristics on floor plan are analyzed based on space organization, area and number of bays. Among apartment houses over 40 pyeong, it seems that differentiation is well applied with various space plans available. (2) A result of an analysis on the factors for spatial floor plan shows that planning a living room with two-open-sides seems to be more common in the tower-shaped apartment blocks which are now on the increase. Moreover, many of them are adopting movable partitions to reflect resident's various demands on space plan. Among all, the extra kitchen in the balcony is planned high portion of 80.4%. And diningroom is positioned on the front side of the residential space along with a livingroom(19.2%). More frequently, dining area tends to face the living room(30.2%) according to the result. Besides dress rooms begin to be placed in each of the bedroom, once planned in one bedroom only while 18.6% of the apartment houses are placing new storages in the entrance to solve lack of storage space due to balcony extension.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual usefulness of bathrooms and to clarify the preference of bathroom plans by college students in Jeonju City. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires and 315 college students were used for this study. The major results are as follows. The bathroom types were mostly unit bathrooms and were not suited with using bathrooms of college students. The college students usually used unit bathrooms individually for stool and showering. The unit type of bathroom was not comfortable for them and, therefore, most of them were not satisfied with their bathrooms. They wanted a separate space for different facilities such as a bathtub and toilet, a dressing room, and a fixed clothes chest. Generally the college students did not prefer unit bathrooms, but the bathroom plan with separate rooms for the bathroom and toilet, with space for dressing. This study suggests that further studies be conducted on college students in other big, small and medium-sized cities. Also, it is necessary to offer bathroom plans which take the size of houses and bathrooms, and the number of bathrooms into account and to survey housing consumers' satisfaction of those bathroom plans.

  • Since 1980's, Countless schools across the nation, particularly in rural areas, have been closed down by the large fall in number of students. Otherwise, an elderly population has been increasing rapidly, so the demand for welfare services for the elderly population is also increasing. However, the supply of elderly welfare facilities remains inadequate. The purpose of this study is to propose remodelling plan of elderly welfare facility using Closed schools. The result of this study were as follows; in unit-based facility plans, Single room type can be used for elder who lives alone or an elderly couple. Senior Congregate Housing type can be used for four to five people. These two types have equal sunlight and ventilation conditions for each room, and are for an old man in relatively good health. Membership resort type is for the healthy senior who lives in the rural area or lives in the city who wants short-term residence. In case of a Nursing home type, the existing one-sided corridor was converted into a central corridor and each classroom is divided into four rooms. This type has advantage for nursing and management, on the other hand, the corridor is narrow and each room has differences for sunlight and ventilation.
