  • The purpose of this study is to discuss the planning direction of educational spaces to support children's healthy and creative learning based on bio_philic theory. This study analyzed the characteristics of the application of biophilic patterns in children's education space through case analysis. The conclusion of this study is summarized as follows. As a result of the analysis of children's classroom space, the pattern of 'A(Visual connection with nature), F(Dynamic & Diffuse Light), K(Prospect)' shows high application rate, but the pattern of 'C(Non-Rhythmic Sensory Stimuli), G(Connection with Natural Systems), I(Material Connection with Nature)' shows low application rate. In particular, there is a lack of connection with patterns such as hearing, smell, touch, taste stimulation and water experience, and curiosity through exploration of nature about 'B(Non-visual connection with nature), E(Presence of Water), N(Risk/Peril)' changes in nature and ecosystem. In the corridor and rest space, the pattern of 'A(Visual connection with nature), D(Thermal & Airflow Variability), F(Dynamic & Diffuse Light), G(Connection with Natural Systems), K(Prospect)' shows high application rate, but 'B(Non-visual connection with nature)' shows low application rate. In addition, the application of patterns related to the stimulation of curiosity through direct exploration of nature and the exploration of the patterns of 'E(Presence of Water), N(Risk/Peril)' is insufficient. Therefore, in the case of classroom spaces, the active use of nature as it is should be considered within the scope that does not cause visual confusion, and it should provide an area that can be experienced through the five senses. And corridors and rest spaces should be designed to introduce more active natural elements as spaces to recover stress caused by learning. In other words, the characteristics of children's education facilities need to be connected between classroom space, corridor, rest space and external space. This study is meaningful in that it analyzes and derives the application characteristics of 'biophilic design' which affects the 'Attention Restoration' of children's educational spaces through foreign cases.

  • This paper investigates how strategy formulation and implementation processes used by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in building its digital collections compare with the Andrew's strategic formulation and implementation theoretical framework. Theory-testing case study methodology was used. The data collection instruments were the key informant interview technique and document reviews. During the formulation phase, two aspects (resources and aspirations of senior management) were emergent. During the implementation phase, five aspects (achieving results, processes and behaviour, standards, motivation, personal) were emergent. All other elements of building the UCC digital collections were planned during both the formulation and implementation phases. Although the emphasis on students and learning is laudable and apt, there seems to be lack of focus on research support beyond digital collection building, despite the fact that research excellence is one of the UCC's key priorities. Opportunities exist for improving feedback mechanisms between the users, digital library staff and the university management; and inclusion of social media tools in the digital library project. Since only the experience of a single institution of higher learning is considered, it cannot be definitively stated that strategy formulation and implementation will be similar in every institutional context. However, the results provide a basis for academic digital libraries to draw lessons from this case. In African public universities, there is little earlier research on strategy formulation and implementation in digital library management. Strategy formulation and implementation is a critical issue for higher education academic libraries especially in developing countries like Ghana, due to limited financial resources and the rapid change in the information environment during the last several decades.

  • A numerical method is presented in this paper, for buckling analysis of thin arbitrary stiffened composite cylindrical shells under axial compression. The stiffeners can be placed inside and outside of the shell. The shell and stiffeners are operated as discrete elements, and their interactions are taking place through the compatibility conditions along their intersecting lines. The governing equations of motion are obtained based on Koiter's theory and solved by utilizing the principle of the minimum potential energy. Then, the buckling load coefficient and the critical buckling load are computed by solving characteristic equations. In this formulation, the elastic and geometric stiffness matrices of a single curved strip of the shell and stiffeners can be located anywhere within the shell element and in any direction are provided. Moreover, five stiffened composite shell specimens are made and tested under axial compression loading. The reliability of the presented method is validated by comparing its numerical results with those of commercial software, experiments, and other published numerical results. In addition, by using the ANSYS code, a 3-D finite element model that takes the exact geometric arrangement and the properties of the stiffeners and the shell into consideration is built. Finally, the effects of Poisson's ratio, shell length-to-radius ratio, shell thickness, cross-sectional area, angle, eccentricity, torsional stiffness, numbers and geometric configuration of stiffeners on the buckling of stiffened composite shells with various end conditions are computed. The results gained can be used as a meaningful benchmark for researchers to validate their analytical and numerical methods.

  • Successful Visual Story Telling(VST) of desire is a crucial key for the success of animation because desire is the leading power of story development of animation. An analysis of the desire of VST using the top 5 successful American feature film animations is carried out. Totally, 147 desire shots are extracted by using the proposed Objective Selection of Desire Shots(OSDS) method based on the theory of Makee's conflict and desire pursuing modeling, Maslow's 20 desire types, Greimas's actant model, and the 17 narrative process classification. In addition to them, the 5 Beat(5B) model of a scene is proposed. Five image specialists have evaluated VST of the selected 147 desire shots. For each shot, the desire type among the 20 desires and the strength are obtained. Among them, the top 3 desires(affiliation, achievement, and nurturance) appearing 51.8% are analyzed. The composition elements of shots affecting the desire type and the strength have found. These can be used for better VST of preproduction and production of animation.

  • This study inferred the symbolism of shaman's costume in China from shamanism and types of shaman's costume in Naje, Deokgang-hyun, Guiju-seong, China through field survey. Shamanism in China has complicated aspects due to negotiations with other culture for a long time while maintaining its own consistency based on ethnicity. Symbolism of shaman's costume in Naje, Guiju-seong, China is observed as follows. First, the shaman's costume in China appears differently from every Jangcha in relation to the position of god appearing in Jangcha when Tolosa takes the position of god as a symbol of sex and god. In Naje of China, the most important shaman's costume indicating the position of god has a unique mask for every deity. It communicates that Tolosa wearing a costume appropriate for the god of wine shall become the god in that Jangcha. Second, the shaman's costume in China has something to do with Yin-Yang and the five elements theory of Taoism as a symbol of shamanism visio of the universe and system of reason. Most of Tolosas hosting Naje are men but dress up as women by wearing Nagun looking like a skirt. Nagun is usually red, the color of Yang, which symbolizes that by wearing such costume that takes color of Yang, Tolosa expels an ominous thing by balancing yin and yang and taking god's strong power. Third, Tolosa takes an eight-breadth Nagun, as a symbol of people. An eight-breadth worn by Tolosa in Naje strengthens the spirit of union and fight of the Tujia nationality who live in Deokgang-hyun, Guiju-seong through folk legends. In this course, a symbolic meaning of the national spirit has been provided on an eight-breadth Nagun, a shaman's costume.

  • This study is about Tak Mok theory of feng-shui ideology which was main thought in Choson dynasty or some other thoughts and noble families' thought of garden building : planting trees and properties of the noble families garden. The result from the study of noble family's garden molding is as follows. In the noble family's garden molding, there were considerations of plant ecology known through long experience and the functional aspect of planting tree and esthetic sense of housing circumstances, in addition to feng-shui thought, Taoist thought and the doctrine of the five natural elements of the positive vs. negative. We can learn Choson's noble family's garden included playroom as well as symbolic and incantatory meaning. Also in the thought of noble family's garden molding we can found proper element for modern housing plan such as an ecological peculiarity or functional aspect of dwelling circumstance. And we can also found they didn't show a rejection symptoms against nature but enclosed with straight form which was traditional trait, and each space of it is composed organically. Also we knew they selected a diverse and refined technique with it's decorating the Choson dynasty playful and meditative space. We found that the key point of the thought of noble family's garden molding were on the basis of Confucianal mood, content amid poverty thought and free technique of it.

  • The 4-DAT is a tool for analyzing general development process such as XP and Scrum. In this paper, we suggest a new evaluation method based on 3-DAT for mobile game. Since the 4-DAT has inappropriate evaluation items and unnecessary elements for mobile game development, a revised evaluation method which was optimized using three dimension. The 3-D based evaluation method have development context variables of 5 items and 20 detailed criteria. They were defined based on the theory of P.Abrahammsson, B. Boehm and R. Turner. For the experiment, We applied to five mobile game developments which were earned out for 4 months. It analyzed the three factors of the development teams dependence, inequity and flexibility. This study found that short-term mobile game developments can be completed with low risk when dependence is low, inequity is high and flexibility is high.
