A new dispersion model for dense gas is constructed in the Lagrangian framework. Prediction of concentration by the proposed model is compared with measure data obtained in the experiment conducted in Thorney Island in 1984. Two major effects of dense gas dispersion, gravity slumping and stratification effect, are successfully incorporated into LDM (Lagrangian dense gas model). Entrainment effect is naturally modelled by introducing stochastic dispersion model with the effect of turbulence suppression by stratification. Not only various releasing conditions but also complex terrain can be extended to, although proposed model is appropriate for flat terrain.

Temporal disappearance of weather phenomena effect is frequently observed in flight simulator when large volume of terrain data are processed. This problem was solved by employing culling scheme at static ratio in the existing scheme. However, since this approach causes the irregular rendering speed according to volume of data, it is necessary to develop a new culling scheme to maintain steady rendering speed by adjusting the culling ratio dynamically. In this paper, we propose a new culling scheme to make use of distance of the visibility to determine culling ratio depending on volume of terrain data. The experimental results show that rendering speed is preserved by the proposed scheme without affecting the visuality at rendering the scene and weather phenomena effect together.
Wind field in mountainous regions demonstrates unique distribution characteristic as compared with the wind field of the flat area, wind load and wind effect are the key considerations in structural design of television towers situated in mountainous regions. The television tower to be constructed is located at the top of Xiushan Mountain in Nanjing, China. In order to investigate the impact of terrain factors of hilltops on wind loads, firstly a wind tunnel test was performed for the mountainous area within 800m from the television tower. Then the tower basal forces such as bending moments and shear strength were obtained based on high frequency force balance (HFFB) test. Based on the experiments, the improved method for determining the load combinations was applied to extract the response distribution patterns of foundation internal force and peak acceleration of the tower top, then the equivalent static wind loads were computed under different wind angles, load conditions and equivalent goals. The impact of terrain factors, damping ratio and equivalent goals on the wind load distribution of a television tower was discussed. Finally the equivalent static wind loads of the television tower under the 5 most adverse wind angles and 5 most adverse load conditions were computed. The experimental method, computations and research findings provide important references for the anti-wind design of high-rise structure built on hilltops.

The purpose of this study is to contribute enhancing the accuracy of viewshed analysis through the explanation for an analysis method of viewshed analysis using GIS. According to previous studies, the visible area using digital terrain in viewshed analysis depends on a visible interest area, scale of terrain, spatial resolution and surface data. In this study, we used trend analysis and RMSE analysis in order to find the effect of a visible interest area, scale of terrain, etc in viewshed analysis. Results of this study are as follows. First, the result of viewshed analysis depends on a visible interest area, scale of terrain, spatial resolution, surface data such as previous studies. Second, the results in forest area are reliable than those of flat area in terms of a visible interest area. Third, the results based on raster grid data are stable than those of TIN(triangulated irregular network) in terms of input surface data. Fourth, according to the result of trend and RMSE analysis, the spatial resolution for analysis is differently applied to different scales digital terrain map in viewshed analysis. In detail, it is desirable that the spatial resolution is set less than 10m(in the case of 1/1,000 digital terrain map), 20m(in the case of 1/5,000 map), 30m(1/25,000 map).
We present a method for modelling the terrain response of gravity gradiometry surveys utilising an adaptive quadtree mesh discretization. The data- and terrain-dependent method is tailored to provide rapid and accurate terrain corrections for draped and barometric airborne surveys. The surface used in the modelling of the terrain effect for each datum is discretized automatically to the largest cell size that will yield the desired accuracy, resulting in much faster modelling than full-resolution calculations. The largest cell sizes within the model occur in areas of minimal terrain variation and at large distances away from the datum location. We show synthetic and field examples for proof of concept. In the presented field example, the adaptive quadtree method reduces the computational cost by performing 351 times fewer calculations than the full model would require while retaining an accuracy of one E$\"{o}$tv$\"{o}$s for the gradient data. The method is also used for the terrain correction of the gravity field and performed 310 times faster compared with a calculation of the full digital elevation model.

When a vehicle is operated over sort terrain, torque(or soil thrust) applied to driving wheel brings about shear displacement far soil due to compression and shear failure of soil under tire. This shear displacement give rise to slip and a additional sinkage due to slip. This additional sinkage is usually referred to as slip-sinkage. The slip-sinkage is affected by soil conditions and inflation pressure of tire. This slip-sinkage influence tractive performance on driving wheel . We conducted the experimental study far investigating the effect of slip on sinkage and tractive performance of driving wheel, such as motion resistance, thrust and drawbar pull. The experiment was carried out over three different soil conditions(soft, hard and very hard soil) far a tire with three levels of inflation pressure(120kPa, 240kPa and 360kPa). The results of this study show qualitatively slipsinkage characteristics and slip-tractive performance relationships of driving wheel with soil conditions and inflation pressure of tire.
A ventilation model was developed for predicting the air change per hour(ACH) in buildings and the airflow rates between zones of a multi-room building. In this model, the important parameters used in the calculation of airflow are wind velocity, wind direction, terrain effect, shielding effect by surrounding buildings, the effect of the window type and insect screening, etc. Also, the resulting set of mass balance equations required for the process of calculation of airflow rates are solved using a Conte-De Boor method. When this model was applied to the building which had been tested by Chandra et al.(1983), the comparison of predicted results by this study with measured results by Chandra et al. indicated that their variations were within -10%~+12%. Also, this model was applied to a building with five zones. As a result, when the wind velocity and direction did not change, terrain characteristics influenced the largest and window types influenced the least on building ventilation among terrain characteristics, local shieldings, and window types. Except for easterly and westerly winds, the ACH increased depending on wind velocity. The wind direction had influence on the airflow rates and directions through openings in building. Thus, this model can be available for predicting the airflow rates within buildings, and the results of this study can be useful for the quantification of airflow that is essential to the research of indoor air quality(temperature, humidity, or contaminant concentration) as well as to the design of building with high energy efficiency.
This paper proposes an efficient algorithm to develop a 3D terrain tools which is essential in the development of 3D computer games. In particular, this paper proposes a cross detection technique to improve picking speed. In other words, this paper proposes a more efficient cross detection technique consisting of a ray and a parallelogram than a cross detection technique consisting of a ray and a triangle. So, we can confirm the faster picking speed. This paper uses a picking example among DirectX SDK samples to test it. In addition, this paper compares the number of function calls for cross detection using the existing techniques and the proposed technique. As a result, in this paper the proposed technique has fallen off to about a 50 percent than the existing techniques. And if it is calculated by times, in this paper the proposed technique was reduced to 1 to 2 seconds than the existing techniques. Additionally, in this paper 3D terrain tools are provide more improved algorithms for features such as texture splatting, height map control, object arrangement and realistic water effect. So, 3D terrain tools is available efficient in the development of real 3d computer games.
A reliability model of wind farm located in mountainous land with complex terrain, which considers the cable and wind turbine (WT) failures, is proposed in this paper. Simple wake effect has been developed to be applied to the wind farm in mountainous land. The component failures in the wind farm like the cable and WT failures which contribute to the wind farm power output (WFPO) and reliability is investigated. Combing the wind speed distribution and the characteristic of wind turbine power output (WTPO), Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) is used to obtain the WFPO. Based on clustering algorithm the multi-state model of a wind farm is proposed. The accuracy of the model is analyzed and then applied to IEEE-RTS 79 for adequacy assessment.
