Purpose: This study examined the effects of the forward head posture and tension type headache on neck movement among office workers. Methods: The subjects were 6 male and 21 female patients composed of a forward head posture group, forward head posture group with a tension type headache and a normal group. Each group consisted of 2 males and 7 females. The cranio-vertebral angle of the head and the angle of motion of the neck were measured. SPSS 23.0 was used for data analysis and one-way ANOVA was performed for the mean comparison of the neck movements in the three groups. Results: The participants had a limitation in the movement of all necks between the forward head posture group and forward head posture with tension type headache group compared to the normal subjects. The forward head posture with tension headache group had limited neck extension and lateral bending compared to the forward head posture group. Conclusion: Office workers have limitations in the movement of the neck when they are accompanied by forward head posture and tension headache. In particular, when accompanied with a tension headache, there is a restriction on the neck extension and side bending. This study is expected to provide basic data for the relief of tension headache and the treatment of forward head posture in office workers.
This paper proposes a robust tension control algorithm for the let-off and take-up system driven by servo motor which is robust to disturbance and tension variation by using SVR(Support Vector Regression). Quality of textile goods in fiber manufacturing process highly depends on control of let-off, take-up and tension which are essential for constant tension control of yarn and textile fabrics and correct length of them. The physical properties of textile fabrics are very sensitive to several factors(temperature, humidity, radius change of warp beam etc.) which result in tension change. Rapid development of fiber manufacture machine for higher productivity requires control system for let-off, take-up and tension for robustness to sharp tension-variation and quick response. The validity and the usefulness of the proposed algorithm are thoroughly verified through numerical simulation.
The compact tension specimen geometry has been widely used for measuring fatigue crack growth rates at elevated temperature when the fatigue load is under tension/tension condition. However, most of the elevated temperature components which have significant crack growth life experience fatigue load under tension/compression conditions. Thus test techniques are required since the compact tension specimen cannot be used for tension/compression loading. In this paper, a simplified test procedure for measureing fatigue crack growth rates is proposed, which employs a round bar specimen with a small surface crack. Fatigue crack growth rates under tension/ tension loading conditions at elevated temperature were measured according to the proposed procedure and compared with those previously measured by C/(T) specimens. Since both the measured crack growth rates were comparable, the fatigue crack growth rates under tension/ compression load can be reliably measured by the proposed procedure. For monitoring crack depth. DC electric potential method is employed and an optimal probe location and current input conditions were proposed.
The objective of this study is to investigate the direct effects of green tea catechins(GTC) on vascular smooth muscle tension and 45Ca2+ Uptake in rat aorta. The methods used in this study are isometric tension measurements using physiograph, Lanthanum method for 45Ca2+(2 uCi/ml) uptake measurement in rat aorta. GTC modified tension induced by 40 mM KCl or 1 uM norepinephrine in rat aorta. Low concentrations of GTC(<0.5mg/ml) increased tension by 40 mM KCl or 1 uM norepinephrine, individually. However, high conecentration of GTC(>0.5 mg/ml) inhibiited tension by 40 mM KCl or 1 uM norepinephrine, individually. GTC increased 45Ca uptake induced by 40 mM KCl in a dose-dependent manner. From these results, GTC has the dual actions in vascular smooth muscle in vitro. Low concentrations of GTC augments tension by K or norepinephrine. However, high concentrations of GTC inhibits tension by K or norepinephrine GTC may have Ca2+ channel activation, action, which may result in unphysiological vasodilation by Ca2+ overload in vascular smooth muscle.
The mobility of tracked vehicles is mainly influenced by the interaction between tracks and soil, so that the characteristics of their interactions are quite important fur the tracked vehicle study. In particular, the track tension is closely related to the maneuverability of tracked vehicles and the durability of tracks and suspension systems. In order to minimize the excessive load on the tracks and to prevent the peal-off of tracks from the road-wheels, the Dynamic Track Tensioning System (DTTS) which maintains the optimum track tension throughout the maneuver is required. It consists of track tension monitoring system, track tension controller and hydraulic system. In this paper, a dynamic track tensioning system is developed for tracked vehicles which are subject to various maneuvering tasks. The track tension is estimated based on the idler assembly model. Using the monitored track tension and con sidering the highly nonlinear hydraulic units, fuzzy logic controllers are designed in order to control the track tension. The track tensioning performance of the proposed DTTS is verified through the simulation of the Multi -body Dynamics tool.
In general, the tension fores of hanger cable in suspension bridges play an important role in evaluating the bridge state. The vibration method, as a conventional one, has been widely applied to estimate the tension fores by using the measured frequencies on hanger cables. However, the vibration method is not applicable to short hanger cables because the frequency of short cables is severely sensitive to the flexural rigidity. Thus, in this study, the tension forces of short hanger cables, of which the length is shorter than 10meters, were estimated through back analysis of the cable frequencies measured from Gwang-An suspension bridge in Korea. Direct approach to rock analysis is adopted using the univariate method among the direct search methods as an optimization technique. The univariate method is able to search the optimal tension forces without regard to the initial ones and has a rapid convergence rate. To verify the feasibility of back analysis, the results from back analysis and vibration method are compared with the design tension forces. From the comparison, it can be inferred that back analysis results are more reasonable agreement with the design tension forces of short hanger cable. Therefore, it is concluded that back analysis applied in this study is an appropriate tool for estimating tension forces of short hanger cables.
Objectives The purpose of this study was to examine comparison of tension according to the type of sling cord during the bridging exercise with sling in stroke patients. Methods Twenty six stroke patients were recruited for this study. Subjects were randomly performed sling bridging exercise with three types of sling cords such as nonelastic cord with affected side-nonelastic cord with non affected side (NC-NC), nonelastic cord with affected side-elastic cord with non affected side (NC-EC), and elastic cord with affected side-nonelastic cord with non affected side (EC-NC). They were measured tension with a tensiometer of sling cord during the bridging exercise with sling. Results The tension of sling cord was significantly different in affected side, non affected side, and tension ratio of affected side/non affected side. There were significant differences tension in NC-EC from NC-NC and EC-NC and the NC-EC method was increased tension of affected side and decreased tension of non affected side. Conclusions These results showed that the NC-EC method was improved the symmetry of affected side and non affected side. Sling exercise with appropriate type of sling cord should be increased activities of affected side and improved recovery in stroke patients.
Living cells generate, sense, and respond to mechanical forces through their interaction with neighboring cells or extracellular matrix, thereby regulating diverse cellular processes such as growth, motility, differentiation, and immune responses. Dysregulation of mechanosensitive signaling pathways is found associated with the development and progression of various diseases such as cancer. Yet, little is known about the mechanisms behind mechano-regulation, largely due to the limited availability of tools to study it at the molecular level. The recent development of molecular tension probes allows measurement of cellular forces exerted by single ligand-receptor interaction, which has helped in revealing the hitherto unknown mechanistic details of various mechanosensitive processes in living cells. Here, we provide an introductory overview of two methods based on molecular tension probes, tension gauge tether (TGT), and molecular tension fluorescence microscopy (MTFM). TGT utilizes the irreversible rupture of double-stranded DNA tether upon application of force in the piconewton (pN) range, whereas MTFM utilizes the reversible extension of molecular springs such as polymer or single-stranded DNA hairpin under applied pN forces. Specifically, the underlying principle of how molecular tension probes measure cell-generated mechanical forces and their applications to mechanosensitive biological processes are described.
