  • The temporal dark image sticking phenomena for both the face-to-face and coplanar sustain electrode structures were compared. For both structures, the temporal dark image sticking phenomena were examined by measuring the difference in the IR emission, display luminance, perceived luminance, and temperature between the image sticking and the no image sticking cells. For the face-to-face structure, the 10-min sustain discharge causes a small increment of the panel temperature thanks to the ITO-less electrode structure, thereby resulting in mitigating the temporal dark image sticking phenomenon.

  • The temporal dark- and bright-image sticking phenomena were examined relative to the He contents under 11% Xe content in the 50-in HD and FHD AC-PDPs with a ternary gas mixture (Xe-He-Ne). To compare the temporal dark- and bright-image sticking phenomena under various He contents, the differences in the disappearing time, display luminance, perceived luminance, infrared emission, color coordinate, color temperature, and discharge current before and after discharge were measured under 0, 35, 50, and 70% He contents. It was found that temporal dark- and bright-image sticking were reduced in proportion to the increase in He %. Thus, a high He content contributes to the reduction of temporal dark- and bright-image sticking.

  • The temporal dark image sticking phenomena are examined and compared for the two different electrode structures such as the face-to-face and coplanar sustain electrode structure. To compare the temporal dark image sticking phenomena for both structures, the differences in the infrared emission profile, luminance, and perceived luminance of the image sticking cells and the non image sticking cells were measured. It is observed that the temporal dark image sticking is mitigated for the face-to-face structure. The mitigation of the temporal dark image sticking for the face-to-face structure is due to the slight increase in the panel temperature induced by the ITO-less electrode structure.

  • Minimizing the residual impurity level on the MgO layer is the key factor for reducing temporal dark image sticking on bright screen. In this paper, to reduce the residual impurity level on the MgO layer of 50-in. full-HD ac-PDP with He (35%) - Xe (11%) contents, RF-plasma treatments on the MgO layer are adopted under various gases for plasma treatment. As a result of monitoring the difference in the display luminance between the before and after 5-min. sustain discharge with a square-type image at peak luminance, the Ar and Ar>$O_2$ plasma treatments can reduce the temporal dark image sticking on the bright screen in an ac-PDP.

  • The effects of the temporal dark image sticking phenomena on bright screen were investigated with various He, Ne contents and a high Xe content fixed at 11% in the 50-in. ac-PDPs. In this work, the disappearance time and the display luminance between the before and after discharge in the discharge and non-discharge regions were measured with 0%, 35%, and 50% He contents. Consequently, the temporal dark image sticking on bright screen was reduced with the increase of He contents compared with the non-He (0%) content.

  • The effects of a temporal image sticking phenomenon on the subsequent dark and white background images are investigated in 42-inch PDP-TV and the reducing method is proposed In addition, the changes in luminance and temperature with an increase in time with the conventional and large sustain gap. The temporal dark image sticking was reduced considerably by decreasing background luminance and it was found that the temporal image sticking with large sustain gap was reduced when compared with the conventional sustain gap.
