  • The Internet has been widely applied to the remote control system. The network-based control system, however, has a random time delay and an inherent weak point of the network, when the data ate transmitted. The network delay may result in performance degradation or even system instability in teleoperation. In this paper a prediction model of network delay using TSK (Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) fuzzy model is presented. An adaptive scheme is developed to update the prediction model according to the current network status. The prediction model is applied to the control of an Internet-based mobile robot to show its usefulness. In the computer simulation the TSK Prediction model of network delay is proven superior to the conventional algorithms.

  • A master-slave system for teleoperation is usually used to control the robor's motion on remote place such as abyss, outer space etc.. When the slave robot is a humanoid one, it can make a better performance if the configuration of the master arm is similar to that of the slave arm and of the human. The master arm proposed in this paper has a type to be put on the human arm, that is, the exoskeleton type, and has a combination of serial joint and parallel mechanism imitating the human's arm structure of muscles and bones, so called hybrid mechanism so that it can follow arm's movement effectively. But it is easy to solve the forward kinematis of the parallel structure because relating equations are implicit functions. In order to solve that, the virtual joint angle corresponding to human arm's joint is introduced and a sequential computation step is employed in calculating virtual joint angles and the posture of the end effector. Also validity is checked up through computational simulation.

  • Using telesensor programming method, we control the space robot which has two 2-DOF manipulators. To make this control system, we devide total works by elemental operation. And we make a simulation system that can simulate sensors and robot. In the simulation system, we make a sensor data and robot paths by "Teaching by showing" method. And using these data, we control the real space robot. This off-line method can solve long time delay problem in teleoperation.operation.

  • A Force-refecting hand controller can provide the kinesthetic information obtained from a slave manipulator to the operator of a teleoperation system. This thesis presents the desgn and the analysis of a 6-degree-of-freedom force-reflecting hand controller using fivebar parallel mechanism. The goal of this thesis is to construct a superior hand controller that can provide large workspace and good force-reflecting ability. The forward kinematics of the fivebar paprallel mechanism has been calculated in real-time using three pin-joint sensors in addition to six actuator position sensors. A force decomposition approach is used to comput the Jacobin. To analyze the characteristics of the fivebar parallel mechanism, it has been compared with the other three parallel mechanisms in terms with workspace and manipulability measure. The force-reflecting hand controller using the fivebar parallel mechanism has been constructed and tested to verify the feasibility of the design concept.

  • In this paper we present a teleoperation system of an internet-based mobile robot based on H.263 image compression algorithm. We control remotely the networked mobile robot with vision over the internet under unknown environments in the real time. The main feature of this system is that local operators need to download and install a client program and so they can command the robot in a remote location. Image information of remote location is compressed by H.263 video codec algorithm and then transmitted to a local operator. We constructed and tested a networked autonomous mobile robot in the real field. The experimental results show the usefulness of the robot under test.

  • In this paper, we construct the infrastructure for the teleoperating system of mobile robots. For the stable teleoperating system, we develope an algorithm that measure communication time delay on real-time. We propose the force-reflected teleoperation method that control the stiffness of joystick according to VFH(Vector Field Histogram). Also, an obstacle avoidance method using VFH is presented for the mobile robot to move to the indicated direction without collision. Experiments are conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed methods.

  • In teleoperation field robotic system such as hydraulically actuated robotic excavator, the maneuverability and convenience is the most important part in the operation of robotic excavator. Particularly the force information is important in dealing with digging and leveling operation in the teleoperated excavator. Excavators are also subject to a wide variation of soil-tool interaction forces. This paper presents a new force reflecting joystick in a velocity-force type bilateral teleoperation system. The master system is electrical joystick and the slave system is hydraulically actuated cylinder with linear position sensor. Particularly Pneumatic motor is used newly in the master joystick for force reflection and the information of the pressure of salve cylinder is measured and utilized as the force feedback signal. Also force-reflection gain greatly affects the ...

  • This paper describes a robotic teleoperation system to perform an accurate needle insertion into a cornea for a separation between the stromal layer and Descemet's membrane during deep anterior lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK). The system can reduce the hand tremor of a surgeon by scaling the input motion, which is the control input of the slave robot. Moreover, we utilize corneal applanation to estimate the insertion depth. The proposed system was validated by performing the layer separation using 25 porcine eyes. The average depth of needle insertion was 742 ± 39.8 ㎛ while the target insertion depth was 750 ㎛. Tremor error was reduced from 402 ± 248 ㎛ in the master device to 28.5 ± 21.0 ㎛ in the slave robot. The rate of complete success, partial success, and failure were 60, 28, and 12%, respectively. The experimental results showed that the proposed system was able to reduce the hand tremor of surgeons and perform precise needle insertion during DALK.

  • This paper reports the design procedure and testing result of a servo driven pan/tilt device which is capable of tracking arbitrary movement of a specified target object. In order to achieve real-time acquisition of feedback signal, a 2 degrees-of-freedom non-contact type displacement follower is used. The performance of the system is tested for different target velocities and control gains. The result of the research may provide an effective tool for visual transfer in the context of teleoperation.
