  • Ubiquitous computing which is providing various convenient services to user will prevail in future. To realize ubiquitous service, analyzing technical and information factors for service implementation is necessary. This paper defines ubiquitous service model to satisfy user demands and we analyze technical and information factors in order to realize services. Based on the factors, we extracts and classifies common compositions of ubiquitous services to suggest guidelines of service design.

  • In this paper, we first summarize key components of integrated services of telecommunication and broadcasting. Definitions and typology of th e integrated services are organized th rough comprehensive analysis of recent convergence trend of telecommunications and broadcasting. Various issues on regulations, society cultures, and technical aspects of the convergence are identified. Next, we deal with the digital media broadcasting service which is one of the technical culmination of the telecommunication and broadcasting merged services. The focus of the analysis has been made on policy implications and comparative details with other similar services in the same category. Finally, we suggest the perspectives on forthcoming digital media broadcasting service developments, and implications to cope with this emerging technological breakthrough.

Barriers to Low Vision Services and Challenges Faced by The Providers in Pakistan

  • Objective. There were two objectives of the study, first was to identify the barriers as perceived by the patients and providers to access the low vision services and second was to identify the challenges faced by the main providers. Study design. Structured questionnaire based interviews of patients and providers Methodology. To find out the barriers to access of low vision services, the interviews based on structured questionnaire were conducted for two patient groups. The first group consisted of 97 visually impaired individuals attending the department of low vision services at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Rawalpindi while the second group included 56 visually impaired individuals attending the four rehabilitation centers/schools for the blind in Rawalpindi/Islamabad. To identify the barriers as perceived by the main providers of low vision services and challenges faced by them the interviews based on structured questionnaire were conducted for 19 low vision service providers. Results. From patients point of view, major barrier to low vision services identified was inability to visit hospital /rehabilitation center alone - 29.8% in hospital group and 33.9% in rehabilitation centers group, while the lack of social support, lack of family support, cost of travelling, long distance, afford ability, hesitation in using devices and lack of satisfaction were other important barriers identified. From providers' point of view, major barrier to uptake of services was the need for repeated follow-ups. Optometrists were the main provider of low vision services contributing to 47.4% of the providers. The major challenge faced by the providers was motivation of patients to use low vision devices. Conclusion. The major barrier to low vision services according to the patients is inability to visit the hospital alone, while according to providers, it is the need for repeated follow up which proves major barrier towards uptake of services. The motivation is the major challenge faced by providers, majority of which are optometrists.

  • This paper analyzes the technical efficiencies of 40 Korean system integration firms using data envelopment analysis (DEA) and Malmquist productivity indices. Technical efficiencies on average had been decreased over the five year period and the efficiency difference between best practice firms and catch-up firms had been increased during this period, meaning that the industry structure has become matured and the possibilities for catch-up firms to be efficient are not remained so much. The differences in efficiency by the differences in ownership structures are statistically significant. It implies that the efficiencies of group-affiliated firms have come from benefits such as the captive market umbrellas, not from their own management competencies. In addition, the technical efficiency is highly correlated with captive market sales, information productivity, sales per employees, rates of value added, returns on invested capital, and EBITDA.

  • A novel activated carbon produced from cherry laurel (Laurocerasus officinalisRoem.) seeds (CLSAC) by chemical activation with ZnCl2 was used as an adsorbent to remove Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions. CLSAC was characterized by several techniques and the adsorption experiments were performed in a batch model adsorption technique. The effects of various experimental parameters were investigated as a function of solution pH, contact time, initial Cr(VI) concentration, CLSAC concentration, and temperature. The monolayer adsorption capacity of CLSAC was found to be 41.67 mg g-1 for 5.0 g L-1 of CLSAC concentration and, it was concluded that CLSAC can be used as an effective adsorbent for removal of Cr(VI) from waters and wastewaters.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of difficult endotracheal intubation education in the 119 rescue services. The subjects in this study were 60 members of the 119 rescue services that was under the umbrella of the Fire Service Headquarters of J province. A SPSS 14.0 program was utilized to find out the effect of tough tracheal intubation education on their relevant knowledge, self-confidence, academic self-efficacy and technical Performance in consideration of general characteristics. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. They showed a significant improvement in all the knowledge, self-confidence, academic self-efficacy and technical Performance after they received that education. 2. As for connections between general characteristics and knowledge before and after that education, there were significant differences in their knowledge according to gender and career of working in the hospital, and their rank and career of working in the hospital made a significant differences to their self-confidence. Their academic self-efficacy significantly differed with rank, career of working in the hospital and academic credential. There were significant gaps among them technical Performance Case 1 according to career of working in the 119 rescue services, and technical Performance Case 2 significantly varied with age and academic credential. There were significant gaps in technical Performance Case 3 according to career of working in the 119 rescue services and career of working in the hospital after that education was provided, and technical Performance Case 4 significantly varied with age and rank before and after the education was conducted. In conclusion, the kind of education programs that aim at stirring up the interest of the 119 rescue services in advanced airway and helping the members learn about tracheal intubation accurately with confidence is urgently required.

  • The recent location-based services of smart-phones are some of the rapidly growing mobile technology. This paper proposes a technique for modifying the change cycle of location-based services according to the specific location using location based services. This technique shows that the cycle of the location-based services can be customized based on the location. As a result, this technique proposes a process that can reduce the waste of resources compared to the location based services of a constant cycle.

  • In developing the ubiquitous computing technology based services (ubiquitous services), evaluating how much value of those services is created or added is very crucial. The efforts to evaluate the ubiquitous services have been progressed in two perspectives - technical perspective and behavioral perspective. Despite its importance, however, the methodologies which integrate both perspectives have been still very rare. Hence, this paper aims perspectives have been still very rare. Hence, this paper aims to propose an integrated ubiquitous service valuation methodology based on the multi-layered approach including technical and behavioral perspectives. To do so, we conducted a case study with currently existing location based service (LBS) such as navigation systems by conducting focus group interview (FGI) and field survey.

  • Information services adopting RSS(Really Simple Syndication) is on an increase. It is replacing the existing email services. Information in the area of science and technology is of vast amount and various area and their life-cycle and service is complex. Institutions providing information of a single area are not faced with many obstacles in designing information services using RSS in acquiring a channel for the service. However, RSS service in the area of science and technology has to be more specific in designing and implementing the services. In this study, RSS is compared with other information service protocols, domestic and international trends in the area of RSS is analyzed to implement the RSS based Science and Technology information service system(STI-RSS) and its service.
