  • In this paper, we present a multi-media processor which can decode multiple-format video standards. The designed processor is evaluated with optimized MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and AVS (Audio video standard). There are two approaches for developing of real-time video decoders. First, hardware-based system is much superior to a processor-based one in execution time. However, it takes long time to implement and modify hardware systems. On the contrary, the software-based video codecs can be easily implemented and flexible, however, their performance is not so good for real-time applications. In this paper, in order to exploit benefits related to two approaches, we designed a processor called ASIP(Application specific instruction-set processor) for video decoding. In our work, we extracted eight common modules from various video decoders, and added several multimedia instructions to the processor. The developed processor for video decoders is evaluated with the Synopsys platform simulator and a FPGA board. In our experiment, we can achieve about 37% time saving in total decoding time.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method of adult image classification by combining skin color regions and edges in an input image. The proposed method consists of four steps. In the first step, initial skin color regions are detected by logical AND operation of all skin color regions detected by the existing methods of skin color detection. In the second step, a skin color probability map is created by modeling the distribution of skin color in the initial regions. Then, a binary image is generated by using threshold value from the skin color probability map. In the third step, after using the binary image and edge information, we detect final skin color regions using a region growing method. In the final step, adult image classification is performed by support vector machine(SVM). To this end, a feature vector is extracted by combining the final skin color regions and neighboring edges of them. As experimental results, the proposed method improves performance of the adult image classification by 9.6%, compared to the existing method.

  • Global warming has recently become an issue that has resulted in a growing trend to minimize environmental pollution. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has shown that the majority of marine atmospheric pollution occurs as a result of emissions from marine vessels. Therefore, the environmental regulations and emission standards regarding marine vessels have gradually become stricter, and the research and development in this area is experiencing significant progress. In this study, a nozzle for a fuel oil scrubber was investigated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and particle imaging velocimetry (PIV). Experiments were conducted on scaled-down model of the scrubber to determine its performance, which was then compared with CFD results. Based on the experimental results, it was found that at a spray angle of $66^{\circ}$, the spray velocity at the nozzle was 20.1 m/s. From this comparison, a full-scale scrubber model was analyzed using CFD, and the effect of the positioning of the nozzle was studied.

  • In this research, the characteristics of SOFC/GT (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell/Gas Turbine) system temperature, stack power and system efficiency for flow rates of air, CH4 and water supplied to SOFC stack have been investigated. The temperature of the gas supplied to cathode and anode of SOFC stack in the SOFC/GT system are maintained by utilizing exhaust gas without the addition of external heat source. As a result, within the scope of this study, temperatures of gas supplied to cathode and anode of SOFC stack were maintained at 1000 (K) by utilizing the exhaust gas of the SOFC/GT system without the addition of external heat source. The system efficiency is increased with increase of air flow rate supplied to the stack and with decrease of $CH_4$ flow rate supplied to the stack. In addition, it can be found that the flow rate of the exhaust gas supplied to the turbine had a significant effect on the system efficiency. And the efficiencies of SOFC stack and SOFC/GT system depending upon various operating conditions of the SOFC/GT system is 51~57% and 57~73%, respectively.

  • This paper presents a design for preventing coolant leaks in the core part of a heater mounted in a combat vehicle. The heater is a device that makes heated coolant flow through the heater core in the crew room. A problem with coolant leaks in the heater core area during the operation of a combat vehicle was identified. This problem is caused mainly by high pressure at the junction of the tank and tube due to the vulnerability of this area. To solve this problem, an improved core was made by improving the welding method and changing the end region of the heater core to a structure that can withstand high pressure. When pressure was applied sequentially to the existing core and improved core, a leak occurred at 7.0 kgf/㎠ in the existing core while the improved core maintained its structure up to 17.0 kgf/㎠, highlighting the improvement. Finally, performance tests and environment tests were conducted to demonstrate the suitability of the improved structure. The improved heater will be applied to combat vehicles. This paper is expected to serve as a reference for improving defense capabilities by securing reliability as well as the design and analysis of failures of similar equipment.nse capabilities through securing reliability as well as the design and analysis of failures of similar equipment.

  • Recently more and more construction projects have become high-rise, complex and intelligent. Accordingly, such projects require an integrated management system for tasks, with a lean approach to construction with work processes for management and productivity. In particular, Construction Information Technology (CIT) fields are concerned with Building Information Modeling (BIM), which represents the process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle. Constructability research has progressed for the project goal which is a cost-time-quality of optimization by integrated construction knowledge and experience. However, the current constructability process has not been performed efficiently, as the existing 2D drawings and papers lack consistent and accurate information, it is difficult to share the contents of work, and the use of information is inefficient. This study proposes that the reformation and enhancement of BIM-based constructability work process can lead to brilliant performance in the framework of the construction phase through achieving collaboration between the design team and the workers at the site.

  • The Radar Cross Section (RCS) is a virtual region indicating the strength of a wavelength at which a radar signal is reflected and received. As the ship's RCS represents its own stealth performance and survivability, efforts have been made in various areas from design to construction to reduce the RCS. The RCS can be predicted using design drawings and CAD models, but it is necessary to measure the RCS at sea since sea clutter and multipath reflections occur in the sea environment. However, such RCS predictions and measured values provide only a simple relative magnitude to the user, and there has not been much research on this topic. In this paper, a missile countermeasure technique was studied using 3D RCS measurement data in an operating environment. The elevation and azimuth angle of the ship viewed from the missile were estimated using the location information of the missile, and the RCS value was inverted by mapping it to previously measured 3D RCS measurement data. In addition, by using the movement information of the missile, the RCS observed by the missile could be predicted in advance, and this method can be used to propose a response plan based on the maneuvering and chaff system.

  • Displacement of dams by various instrumentations has been monitored for its safety management and analyzing the behavior after a dam collapse accident. However, unknown displacement of dam has frequently been occurred and it's difficult to analyze behavior of dams more accurately. In this study, improvement of reliabilities for displacement of dams measured by a total station was suggested by calibrating the monitoring system. The position of total station was initially measured through 2-3 given points and the coordinate of the total station was considered as an absolute value. Also, base horizontal and vertical angles had not been considered even if they are important factors when displacement was estimated. In this study, location of the total station and variations of base horizontal and vertical angles were investigated during measuring displacements of targeting points. From the results of this study, they are important factors which are affecting measurements of dam displacements. Before the calibrating, the displacement at 50 m from total station was ${\pm}20mm$. After the calibrating, the displacement was decreased by ${\pm}5mm$.

  • Tin oxide was coated on graphite particle by sol-gel method and an electrode with this material having microcrystalline structure for lithium ion battery was obtained by heat treatment in the range $400-600^{\circ}C$. The content of tin oxide was controlled within the range of $2.25wt\%\~11.1wt\%$. The discharge capacity increased with the content of tin oxide and also initial irreversible capacity increased. The discharge capacity of tin oxide electrode showed more than 350 mAh/g at the initial cycle and 300 mAh/g after the 30th cycle in propylene carbonate(PC) based electrolyte whereas graphite electrode without surface modification showed 140 mAh/g. When the charge and discharge rate was changed from C/5 to C/2, The discharge capacity of tin oxide and graphite electrode showed $92\%\;and\;77\%$ of initial capacity, respectively. It has been considered that such an enhancement of electrode characteristics was caused because lithium $oxide(Li_2O)$ passive film formed from the reaction between tin oxide and lithium ion prevented the exfoliation of graphite electrode and also reduced tin enhanced the electrical conduction between graphite particles to improve the current distribution of electrode.
