The study is to research their parenting efficacy and parenting practices of a parent teacher as a volunteer(PTV) in the kindergarten. The subjects were mothers (N=127) in Choongbuk Province who had had volunteer education as a teacher assistant. The data were collected by their completing a questionnaire about Parenting efficacy and a Parent As A Teacher inventory (PAAT). The results include as follows: firstly, in PTV's parenting efficacy, 'the type of educational institution children are attending' is an important variable. Secondly, 'mother's educational background', 'father's educational background', and 'the type of educational institution children attending' are important variables in volunteer parents' parenting practices. Besides, 'mother's educational background' and 'participation motivation in volunteer activity' are important variables in parenting practices of 'control/permission' and of 'teaching/learning', and in general parenting practices. Finally, 'parenting efficacy', 'mother's educational background', and 'the sex of children' are important variables in volunteer teachers' parenting practices.

This paper will present some basic and simple graphical methods of exploratory data analysis for the instrument of data analysis at school mathematics. Human beings perceive visual patterns more readily than patterns in collections of numbers. This is especially important in exploratory data analysis because pictures dramatically reveal things that we did not expect to find in the data set. Here are graphical methods as the stem and leaf plot, the box plot, the star plot and the face plot. These methods impulse the motivation of students in real life. And the subject can be taught in secondary school with several applications. Also It is important for students to get a feel for working with and manipulating data before studying the more theoretical aspects of statistics.

The current study explored a pedagogical possibility of utilizing magic as a source of communicative tasks for young learners in developing their English speaking proficiency. Fifteen primary school students participated in the study, which consisted of a 17-week period of task-based English instruction and data collection. The participants were instructed to accomplish various types of magic task through collaborative group interaction. The data collected for the study pertained to the students' linguistic outputs, interactions in group and attitudes to English learning. They were analyzed for how magic tasks affect the students' English proficiency developments and group interactions. The study results suggested the significant improvement in the students' English speaking proficiencies. They revealed that magic tasks contributed to a) enhancing the motivation to speak in English, b) stimulating the creative and problem-solving processes, and c) providing the sufficient opportunity to repeat and internalize the target expressions. The study results also indicated that the students' satisfaction with their group members and tasks seemed to have positive influences on their interactions in group and English proficiency development. Further discussion and pedagogical implications are provided as well as the study limitations.

The necessity of university's educational change is rising up, along with a social environment that keeps changing. This study deals with a newly educational style by recognizing the necessity of variance for engineering education, according to engineers' diversified roles within a company. The study was conducted by 7 members of middle-sized group, replaced from 5 members of small-sized and each was given his task by his job such as CEO, CMO, CSO, CIO, CCO, CQO or Auditor. On the basis of four theoretical backgrounds, this paper investigated students' level of learning satisfaction shown before and after task undertaking through a questionnaire and appraised the result made before and after task undertaking. This study is expected to improve a teaching method of university engineering education.

Despite the social turn in literacy studies, few empirical studies have investigated the practical applications and learning experiences of multimodal composition pedagogy. Using a qualitative research approach, this study examines undergraduates' experiences in producing multimodal texts. Findings report that students' experiences in a multimodal composition class epitomize enjoyable learning. Students enjoyed their learning process because (a) the multimodal literacy curriculum filled the pedagogical gap between the conventional school-sponsored alphabetic literacy pedagogy and widespread out-of-school multimodal literacy practices and (b) the usefulness of the curriculum helped students enhance their intrinsic motivation to learn and compose. By questioning fundamental assumptions about what counts as knowledge in the current ecology of literacies, the authors argue for a dynamic view of literacy into practice.

The purpose of this study is to design and implementation of project learning site by using XML. The development of the Internet site for project learning was planned as per preparation, development and test/application stages. The research shows that the elements used for the development of the Internet site for project learning are to give learners motivation, specification of learning goals, reminiscence of preceding knowledge, positive participation in teaching activities, learning-guide feedback, evaluation, reinforcement and correction. It is expected that many teachers apply this model to their classes and show realistic results to motivate their students.

This paper is to introduce assorted features of a four-week English Immersion Program managed by Hongik English Language Institute for the first time in summer 2000. The program was aimed to provide English learners with the English simulation environment where everything was supposed to be English only. Thus being exposed exclusively to the English surroundings the clock around, the learners who had not had enough opportunities to use the language were able to attain a high motivation for speaking English, which eventually led to the increase of their general English language proficiency. Presenting merits and demerits of the curriculum and the overall management of the program, this paper plays a role in directing the program in a more improved way for the future and giving guidelines to other institutes where similar programs are under consideration.

This study examines the importance of learning language and cultural integration in general English class focused on TOEIC reading comprehension. The understanding of cultural learning and learners' cultural awareness has long been a subject of debate. This study was not only to analyze the improvement of students' interest and reading comprehension ability of TOEIC through cultural learning, but also to ensure students who learn American culture overcome cross-cultural miscommunication and improve their English reading comprehension skills. Pre-post surveys and the pre-post TOEIC tests were used to measure language proficiency and American cultural knowledge to two groups: the experimental and control group. The results from the study were as follows: First, students had better TOEIC scores with improved motivation after understanding American culture relevant to the lessons. Second, reading comprehension skills with regards to TOEIC also improved, compared with the students who were not exposed to American culture due to lack of opportunity.

This study explores the effect of extensive reading(ER) implemented in middle and high schools in Korean EFL context. Two middle school English teachers and two high school English teachers participated in implementing ER in their classes. Six middle school classes of 239 students and seven high school classes of 268 students participated in ER program guided by the above four teachers. To implement ER, participating teachers had continuously been guided by the researcher about the theoretic reasoning of ER and practical methods for efficient ER in class. The study lasted for two semesters and the teachers and students were surveyed and interviewed during and after the classes. The result showed pretty positive improvement of students' self-confidence, interest and motivation about English through ER implemented in this study. It is hoped that this study would show the possibility of implementing ER in Korean EFL secondary school context and a model for ER and cooperation between university researchers and in-service English teachers.

While use of computers to teach English in a conventional educational environment promotes motivation and effective learning in students, the method generates problems such as provision of learning materials without consideration of teaching methods and evaluation without consideration of individual differences in students. To solve these problems and produce a superior system, we propose knowledge representation of expert module for an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS).
