An Exploration and Comparison of Infant Feeding Practices in Home and Center Contexts

  • This study compared parents' and teachers' feeding practices with young children. Parents and teachers of children aged 0-3 years were recruited at 24 child care centers to complete surveys regarding their demographic characteristics, parenting styles, and feeding practices with young children. Respondents included 106 parents and 102 teachers. Participants' feeding beliefs and values were found to be related to their parenting style classifications (i.e., Authoritative, Authoritarian, or Permissive), ethnicity, income, and other demographic characteristics. Findings indicate the need for teachers and parents to begin communicating about their longterm goals for a child's development as soon as the child enters care. Understanding the goals and variation of feeding practices used at home and at school can help teachers and parents begin to construct a shared vision for care.

과학 실험 실습 교육에서 초등 교사가 느끼는 딜레마 (Elementary Teachers' Dilemmas of Teaching Science Practical Work)

  • In their teaching practice, teachers encounter multi-dimensions of pedagogical challenges. The recognition and reflection on these challenges is crucial to advance our science teaching. This study looked into science teachers' dilemmas of their teaching practical work through their written cases. Dilemma cases are teachers' narratives organized around important events of teaching and learning. It can reveal teachers' situated cognition and be used as lens to investigate complex realities of science teaching and learning. 26 pre- and in-service elementary teachers' dilemma cases of science practical work were carefully collected and analysed to interpret what constitute tensions in elementary science practical works. They were largely grouped into three: Curriculum and Institutional Relevance, Students Relevance, Nature of School Experiments Relevance and divided into 7 subheadings: 'Authority of Curriculum(textbook)', 'Disappointment at external support', 'Students' interests and safety', 'Students' unscientific and inert attitude', 'Difficulty of showing expected results', 'Generalization through experiment', 'Knowledge acquisition and authentic inquiry'. Each dilemma was interpreted in terms of the tensions which constitute contradictory beliefs, values, expectation and realities. These dilemmas enabled to expose actual conditions of elementary science practical work and teachers' challenges otherwise can not be seen easily. Science teacher educators also can get some implications to overcome the gap between theory and practice in their teacher education.

초·중등학교 교사들의 극지 소양 (Elementary and Secondary School Teachers' Polar Literacy)

  • 이 연구는 극지 소양 교육을 학교 교육과정에 반영하기 위한 기초 자료를 마련하고자 수행되었다. 교육과정을 현장에서 구현하는 교사들이 지닌 극지 인식과 교수 경험, 극지 관련 인지적·정의적 특성을 조사했다. 대도시 및 중소도시 10개교의 초·중·고등학교 교사 56명을 대상으로 극지 관련 인식, 교수 현황, 극지 지식, 극지와 기후 변화에 대한 신념 및 태도를 포함한 설문을 실시했다. 그 결과, 교사들은 극지 정보에 대한 효능감은 낮은 편이나, 극지와 기후 변화 문제 해결에 있어 교육자의 위상을 긍정적으로 평가하고 있으며 세계 시민적 가치를 실용적 목적보다 우선했다. 학교에서 극지와 기후 변화 문제를 교수한 경험은 교과와 비교과에 걸쳐 다양했지만, 완성된 형태의 교수-학습 자료를 제공받기 원하는 등 교수 개발에 있어 수동적인 면모를 보였다. 인지적 측면에서 교사들은 극지 변화와 기후가 영향을 주고받는 작동 원리와 과정에 대해 다소 모호한 이해를 드러냈다. 정의적 측면에서 대부분 교사들은 학교급을 초월해서 극지 관련 문제에 대한 신념과 태도에서 높은 경향이 나타났지만, 행동 선택은 근소하게 낮았다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 극지 소양을 증진시키기 위한 기회 및 자료 제공, 가치 및 태도 형성을 위한 다양한 맥락의 교육 소재 발굴, 극지 연구 자료를 활용한 교육 자료 개발, 학생과 교사를 포함한 극지 지식에 대한 오개념 파악, 초등 교사의 극지 소양 강화, 정의적 태도와 가치관 함양 등의 시사점을 제안했다.

필립 로스의 "포트노이씨 병" 연구: 유대적 정체성의 위기 (A study on Philip Roth's fiction: Crisis of Jewish identity)

  • This paper examines the crisis of the protagonist's Jewish identity in Philip Roth's Portnoy's Complaint. Jewish values are centered on the philosophy of Judaism and Jewish history. Judaism is based on an ethical monotheism which is Bible-centered. It is characterized by its covenant with God, its humanism, and its emphasis on moral action. It provides essential reasons for man's existence and stresses human confidence and sufficiency. Jewish values can be found in words such as "good," "humanity," "dignity," "responsibility," and "sense of community." These positive Jewish values pervade Philip Roth's fiction paradoxically. Throughout especially Portnoy's Complaint, the protagonist fails to embrace Jewish values in contrast to Bellow or Malamud's heroes and repeat the same mistakes eliciting fits of laughter from readers. The protagonist suffers from his strongly-felt ethical and altruistic impulses perpetually warring with his extreme sexual longings against which he struggles. His desperation grows as he finds himself unable to channel his dissatisfaction and change his situations. His dominating mother and his confusion over Jewishness and Americanism are the main obstacles to his establishment of self-identity. He attempts to build up his gender identity and Jewish identity through his ego-centric sexual relationship with shikses(female gentiles). His inability to embody Jewish values leads to the failure to fulfill his identity. Roth paradoxically shows that the protagonist's realization of Jewishness is essential to the cure for his fragmented self.

서울 경기 지역 교사의 건강행동과 건강상태 (School Teachers' Health Behaviors and Health Status in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do)

  • Objectives: Few studies have focused on health behaviors and health status among teachers even though these are one of principles and values of WHO's Health Promoting Schools. In this study, we described health behaviors and health status among teachers and explored the differences of these by personal and school characteristics. Methods: A stratified and random cluster sampling design was used to obtain a cross-sectional sample. A total of 59 elementary, middle and high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas were included in which 333 teachers (males 40.6%, females 59.4%) participated in this survey. Chi-square tests were conducted with SPSS 17.1. Results: Overall, health behaviors and health status among teachers were better than the general public according to Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Male and middle/high school teachers had higher prevalence of alcohol dependence and of driving under the influence of alcohol. Also, their rate of wearing seat belts were lower compare to female. In other hand, female, health and nutrition teachers, rural school teachers had lower prevalence of meeting recommended levels of physical activity. Underweight were more prevalent to them in contrast to male with higher prevalence of obesity. In addition, teachers of health promoting schools were not likely to ride on a car with a drunk driver. They also have a lower prevalence of skipping breakfast and have higher positive perception of health for themselves. Conclusion: Teachers' health should be given higher concerns as a key component of school based health promotion. Gender and age specific programs should be considered to develop health promoting programs for them.

수학수업에 대한 초등교사의 인식 조사 (A Survey of Elementary school teachers' perceptions of mathematics instruction)

  • 본 연구는 초등수학수업의 개선을 목표로 초등교사의 수학수업에 대한 인식을 조사함으로써 이후 수학수업개선의 방향 설정에 시사점을 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위해 수학수업분석 강의를 수강하는 초등교사의 수학수업에 대한 생각을 조사하였다. 특히 조사대상 교사들은 수학수업분석에 관심이 있을 뿐 아니라 실제 현장에서 타교사의 수학수업 분석 및 컨설팅 경험이 있는 교사들로, 조사대상 교사들이 가진 수학수업에 대한 생각들이 다른 교사들에게도 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 측면에서 이들이 가진 수학수업에 대한 인식은 중요한 의미를 가진다. 강의 수강 전에 수학을 중요 교과라고 생각하는 이유, 초등학생들이 수학을 싫어하고 어려워하는 이유, 현재 초등학교 수학교육이 제대로 이뤄지지 않은 이유, 바람직한 수학수업의 모습과 이를 위한 변화 등에 대해 서술형 문항을 이용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료를 분석하여 이후 수학수업의 변화에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다.

야외 지질 학습에 대한 초임 지구과학 교사의 인식 (Beginning Earth Science Teachers' Perceptions about Learning in Geologic Field Trip)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 초임 지구과학 교사들이 야외 지질 학습에 대하여 어떻게 인식하고 있는지를 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 2006년 1급 정교사 자격 연수를 받고 있는 지구과학 교사 116명을 대상으로 야외 지질 학습의 필요성과 교육적 가치, 교사의 야외 지질 학습 경험, 야외 지질 학습의 어려운 점과 바람직한 야외 지질 학습의 방법에 관한 인식을 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 초임 지구과학 교사들은 지구과학에서 야외 지질 학습은 필요하다고 인식하고 있었고, 교육적 가치에 대해서도 긍정적인 반응을 보였다. 대부분의 교사들은 교사양성과정에서 야외 지질 답사를 경험하였지만, 야외 지질 학습을 지도하는 방법을 배운 교사는 많지 않았다. 교직에 들어와서 야외 지질 답사를 다녀본 경험이나 학생들을 인솔하여 야외 지질 학습을 지도한 경험은 적은 것으로 나타났다. 많은 지구과학 교사들이 야외 지질 학습을 지도하기 어렵다고 인식하였으며, 가장 어려운 이유로 교사 자신의 경험 부족이라고 인식하였다. 이를 해결하기 위한 방안으로 현직 교사 연수를 통한 야외 지질 학습의 교육이 필요하다고 제안하였다 또한 바람직한 야외 지질 학습이 이루어지기 위해서는 야외 지질 학습의 사전 활동으로 야외 지질 학습 장소의 지질학적인 소개나 설명이 필요하다고 보았고, 활동 중에는 교사의 안내와 학생들의 협동학습이 바람직하다고 인식하였다. 그리고 사후 활동으로는 야외 지질 학습 결과에 대한 발표 및 토론이 적합하다고 보았다.

임상에서 부모-교사 보고의 일치 : SDQ-Kr과 K-CBCL의 비교 (Agreement between Parent and Teacher Reports in Clinical Setting : Comparing SDQ-Kr with K-CBCL)

  • Objectives : The aims of this study were to examine agreement between parent and teacher ratings of the Korean version Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ-Kr) for the children's psychopathology and to determine whether it is effective in diagnostics as the Korean version of Childhood Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL). Methods : SDQ-Kr and K-CBCL were completed by parents and teachers of 165 children aged 6-12 years. The clinical diagnosis was made by a child and adolescent psychiatrist who did not have knowledge of the outcome. Spearman's correlations were computed for associations between parents' and teachers' ratings on a subscale level. The Mann-Whitney U test was performed for the influence of child's age and sex on the results. Finally, AUC values were calculated for the diagnostic capacity and the difference between informants was tested using the z test. Results : High correlations were observed between parents' and teachers' SDQ-Kr on every scale. Parents were more sensitive to emotional symptoms of girls, while teachers appeared to be more responsive to externalized symptoms of boys, inattention-hyperactivity of young children, and emotional symptoms of seniors. Parents' SDQ-Kr demonstrated the highest prediction of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Conclusion : Teachers' SDQ-Kr can be used in identification of child psychopathology when parents are absent or when their reliability is considered low.

육아시설 청소년의 자아정체감과 지각된 보육사의 정서적 지지에 의한 청소년의 성가치관 (A Study on the Sexual Values of Institutionalized Adolescents in Terms of Ego-Identity and Perceived Emotional Support from Care Teachers)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of ego?identity and rare teacher's emotional support on the value of sexuality of institutionalized adolescents. The subjects were 102 middle school adolescents in Daegu and Cyeongsangbuk Province, Korea. Ego-identity of the institutional youth, perceived emotional support of care teacher and sexual values reported by the institutionalized adolescents. The data were analyzed with an AMOS 5.5 Program by comparative fit index and a SPSS Win program 12.0 using cronbach's $\alpha$, simple regression, hierarchical multiple regression and path analysis. The findings showed that both the degree of ego-identity and perceived emotional support of care teacher exerted a significant effect on the sexual values of institutional youth. Furthermore, it is important to note that the care teacher's emotional support influenced sexual values of the youth, and was mediated by the ego-identity of the institutional youth.
