  • The problem of promoting instructional effect using reorganizing the content of textbook is one of the major concerns of many education theorists and teachers. The results of many researches about above problem reveal that reorganizing the content of textbook promotes the ability of recall and problem solving of learners. The content structure of current navigation textbook revealed a categorical structure as its basic framework, though it seems to be a poor one. A categorical structure is known as providing an inferior information processing mechanism for learners than a learning hierarchy content structure is. Furthermore current content structure hasn't given any considerations to navigation in practice, spatial contexts and sequential events of ships from a harbor to another harbor. The learning hierarchy content structure has an advantage of giving learners more systematic and stronger knowledge networks than a categorical structure.

  • This article begins by exploring recent developments in the use of the world wide webs in language testing about what a Web-based language test (WBT) is and how they are used in language testing. After a brief review of computer-based testing, WBTs are defined and categorized as low-tech or high tech. Since low-tech tests are the more feasible, they will constitute the focus of this paper. Next, item types for low-tech WBTs are described, and validation concerns that are specific to WBTs are discussed. After a brief overview of the combination of computer-adaptive and Web-based tests, the general advantages as well as design and implementation issues of WBTs are considered before examining the role that testing consequences play in deciding whether a WBT is an appropriate assessment instrument. It is argued that WBTs are most appropriate in low-stakes testing situations; but with proper supervision, they can also be used in medium-stakes situations although they are not generally recommended for high-stakes situations. Some possible ideas for future research are suggested.(169)

  • Integrated science for high school is required in the present Korean National Sixth Curriculum and the Seventh Curriculum which will be effective in 2002. Currently, most science teachers in secondary school have concerns about teaching integrated science subjects and this continues to raise a significant problem for practical implementation of integrated science education in schools. In this paper, we discuss two reasons for these concerns that our analysis revealed: 1) Science teachers do not understand how to implement integrated science education and 2) there are insufficient teaching-learning materials supporting integrated science. Three different approaches to integration that have been suggested to overcome the problem of implementation are outlined here. They are the knowledge centered, social problem centered, and individual interest centered approaches. Reported here are the first two steps we undertook in preparation for testing the relative effectiveness of these approaches. First, we analyzed the content of the Korean Sixth and Seventh National Science Curricula, seven Korean integrated science text books, the American National Science Education Standards, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science Benchmarks looking for common themes. We identified in the analyzed materials the common themes: energy conservation, energy transformation, energy transport, energy degradation. We then used their energy related content to organize sets of concept structures, one set for each of the three approaches. These concept structures will provide the foundations for the development of integrated teaching-learning energy plans to be used in our research into the effectiveness of the approaches.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the weight concerns of female university students living in Jeonju, as well as their control on behavior. Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 285 students. Statistical data analysis was completed using the SPSS v. 11.0 program. The results are summarized as follows: The average weight, height, and BMI of the subjects were 21.43 kg, 161.93 cm, and 19.8, respectively. With regard to body image, most were dissatisfied with their figures, especially the hips and thighs. About 42% of the students estimated their figures as 'slightly fat', while 5.4% stated 'very fat', even though their BMI classified as 'normal'. Four percent of the underweight students described themselves as being 'fatty'. Approximately 93% of the students had strongly pursued weight control, and 45.3% reported wanting to lose about $2{\sim}5$ kg. Almost 73% of the respondents had weight loss experience. The primary reason for weight control was to improve self-confidence. Only 19.6% had succeeded in losing weight, while nearly 48% had stopped dieting. To reduce weight, about two thirds of the students ate less(e.g. no snacks, no sweets). Fifty percent tried to reduce weight by more physical activity(e.g. sports). Television(50.9%), friends(48.4%), and newspapers/magazines(40.4%) were essential sources of pertinent information. In conclusion, the results show that female students in Jeonju have a great interest in weight reduction. Thus, the majority are willing to try several methods for weight reduction, which however, are not promising and not based on a lasting nutritional change. Therefore, it's necessary to increase cooperation among those concerned(e.g. dietitians, teachers, parents, media) and to develop weight-control programs that take into consideration lifestyle and daily habits, as well as combine physical activity, nutrition, and behavioral and personality training.

  • The aim of this paper is to briefly consider the present state regarding Korean language education for multicultural family members, and to consider the outcomes produced so far. Married woman immigrants and their children must be one of the most significant groups for Korean language education in terms of their huge number and their roles and meanings in Korean society. In order to uplift the Korean communicative ability for multicultural family members, an effective operating system for Korean language education is needed, and also live and efficient Korean language instruction must be given by capable Korean language teachers with adequate teaching materials. A customized Korean language education must also be offered based on researches about the characteristics of multicultural family members as "Korean language learners". Korean language education for married woman immigrants has almost been set up in some extent, in terms of teaching materials and the teacher training system. Therefore, an efficient operating system must be constructed so that the developed teaching materials can be actively utilized in the site of Korean language education. A periodical retraining of Korean language teachers for multicultural family members is also necessary for the improvement of Korean language teaching efficiency. However, Korean language education for multicultural children is still in its infancy due to its late start-up. By the support of the Korean government, the curriculum of Korean language education has recently been fixed, KSL text books are being developed, and a diagnostic tool for evaluating their Korean language ability is now in progress. Many continuing concerns and support must still be provided for the improvement of their Korean language ability and fostering them as competitive and capable of speaking Korean.

  • The year 2020 was a time when the coronavirus infections-19 (COVID-19) caused various changes in society. In particular, the fields that have been conducted face-to-face have been greatly confused by the transition to an online non-face-to-face method, and this is the case with the field of education. There are two main advantages of offline education. The first is that we can improve our understanding through communication with teachers, and the second is that we can develop social skills through interaction with friends. But as online classes progressed due to corona 19, interaction could not be achieved. As a result, the motivation for learning has been reduced due to difficulties in real-time feedback, and the participation rate has been significantly lowered, especially in lower grades, raising concerns about the learning gap that will occur after corona 19. However, there are some cases in which online classes were conducted as effectively as offline classes by utilizing various contents. What they have in common is the use of content. Teachers generally improved the quality of education by linking interesting sights and videos that enhance learning comprehension. The provided video conveys learning-related content into stories, enabling intuitive observation. Many students were already enjoying these videos through VOD (Video on Demand) such as TV and YouTube, they were able to connect their easy access to content and interest in learning. Appropriate use of video content has rather increased the learning effect and should continue after corona 19. Therefore, it is necessary to study methodologies that apply video content efficiently to education. This study looked at the steps that needed content application through the development of education programs, and observed its meaning. Students were curious about the content, motivated to learn and participated in learning on their own. Intuitive learning, conducted through appreciation, play and content production, provided an opportunity to learn on their own in everyday life.

  • In this paper, we developed an artificial intelligence literacy education program to strengthen the AI convergence education capacity and cultivate literacy of in-service elementary and secondary teachers, and verify the effect on the degree of interest in artificial intelligence convergence education by applying it. As a test tool, the level of interest questionnaire scale developed by George, Hall & Stiegelbauer(2006) was used based on the center of interest acceptance model of Hall et al.(1979). As a result of analyzing the degree of interest in artificial intelligence convergence education before and after the application of the artificial intelligence literacy education program, the types of non-users were found both before and after the application of the program, but the overall degree of interest increased compared to before application. As a result of analyzing the satisfaction result of the artificial intelligence literacy education program, a response that was satisfied in most areas was derived, but there was a tendency to be somewhat less satisfied with the case of convergence and application of artificial intelligence and industry.

  • With the recent rise in the use of AI-based online translation tools, interest in their methods and effects on education has grown. This study involved 30 prospective elementary school teachers who completed an English writing task using an AI-based online translation tool. The study focused on assessing the impact of these tools on English writing skills and their practical applications. It examined the usability, educational value, and the advantages and disadvantages of the AI translation tool. Through data collected via writing tests, surveys, and interviews, the study revealed that the use of translation tools positively affects English writing skills. From the learners' perspective, these tools were perceived to provide support and convenience for learning. However, there was also recognition of the need for educational strategies to effectively use these tools, alongside concerns about methods to enhance the completeness or accuracy of translations and the potential for over-reliance on the tools. The study concluded that for effective utilization of translation tools, the implementation of educational strategies and the role of the teacher are crucial.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect on the evaluation of a female teachers' role-performance based on appearance according to the clothing attitude of students and their parents. Based on the results of this study a female teachers' role-performance evaluation can be broken down into four ability areas: leaning guidance, living guidance, human relations, and learning management. Likewise the clothing attitudes of students and their parents can be divided into three groups, the clothing oriented group, the trend-individuality group, and the chastity oriented group. The trend-individuality group of students felt that female teachers' appearances have a significant effect on learning guidance and human relations ability while parents thought that there was little relationship or that it has a moderate effect on the role of learning guidance. Because the concerns of students and parents about female teachers' clothing has an effect on female teachers' role performance evaluation, when directing a student group with a high concern for clothing, female teachers need to be sensitive about their appearances and it's affect on learning guidance, human relations, and class management. Based on these results, students and parents felt that female teachers' appearances have an effect on their role performance according to their clothing attitudes.

  • Indeterminacy, along with the traces of the unknown identity V, plays a crucial role in building a new possibility in the narrative V. While the characters search for the single identity of V, Pynchon never lets readers and critics reach any final destination or goal in analyzing the novel. Exploring the multiple possibilities and meanings of life, the characters merely keep traveling and searching, without ever reaching any final conclusion or destination. The journey without ever reaching a final destination equals going beyond the boundary and embracing the margins of various possibilities. It concerns the Others and breaks off the hierarchy of Western metaphysics, which is quite similar to what the theorists of deconstruction seek to do. The search without ever reaching a final destination not only designates the multifarious aspect of truth, but it also suggests the possibility of the multiple meanings of words that the characters create. Just as their stories are abundant, the meaning that they produce with their stories can be open-ended. The notion of indeterminacy and broadness in this text, which can be well explained by Derrida, makes it possible for one to search for something other than the fixed meanings or truth claims. The text becomes multifarious in meaning as well as in structure, thus rejecting any kind of singular signifying act.
