  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of children's characteristics and childcare teachers' attributes on the frequency and level of imaginative play in two-year-old classrooms. Methods: The study involved 191 toddlers, their mothers, and 32 teachers from childcare centers. Toddler characteristics encompassed temperament along with demographic variables such as gender and age. Teacher' attributes related to play included playfulness, play-support belief, and interactions with toddlers. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 22.0 and HLM 8.2 software, employing basic analysis, hierarchical linear analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. Results: First, as toddlers' age increased, both the frequency and level of their imaginative play increased. Second, individual-level model analysis revealed a positive effect of toddlers' extroversion on the level of imaginative play. Third, the class-level model results indicated that teachers' emotions had a negative effect, whereas their encouragement positively influenced the level of imaginative play. Conclusion/Implications: The significance of this study lies in its utilization of a multilayered model analysis, which offers a more robust examination of variable influences by accounting for hierarchical data structures.

We identified teachers' views on education by investigating their views on the purpose of education and examining whether they support the perspectives of teaching and learning in Confucian Heritage Culture. The questionnaire was answered by a total of 572 elementary teachers and secondary mathematics teachers. The results of this survey revealed that mathematics teachers have both Confucian Heritage Culture's view and Western view on education and quiet strong teacher efficacy. The views on education differed by academic levels, but there were no differences in teaching experiences. The teacher efficacy was differed by both academic levels and teaching experiences. The correlation between teacher efficacy and Confucian Heritage Culture's view on education was low. Findings were discussed with regard to their implications for both Korean mathematics education and mathematics teachers' teaching practice.

The teacher commitment appears high and especially the teacher commitment to infants and toddlers appears the highest at the workplace child-care centers. It was also found that there is a significant difference in teacher efficacy depending on academic ability and work experience of teachers, age of infants and toddlers, and total number of teachers in the centers. This study is significant in that it provides the basic data for drawing up the measures to support the teacher commitment as one of the internal characteristics of the teachers working at the workplace child-care centers. • Teaching has become a feminized profession, especially in elementary teaching, in which it is regarded as "women's work." Concerns about the "extinction" of men in the field resulted in calls for male teachers. While studies indicate that there is positive discrimination in favor of men (despite the feminization of teaching), it appears that there are also forms of discrimination that work against them. As such this study explored the challenges of being a male in the feminized profession from the perspective of male teacher candidates. Studies in the field of teacher education in the Philippines mainly focus on curriculum and students' academic achievement, hence an inquiry must be done on the plight of male teachers in a gendered profession. A phenomenological study was employed to look into the realities of six male teacher candidates. Findings show that male teachers are: (1) leadership-destined; (2) conflicted; (3) limited; and (4) devalued. The narrative of male teachers in the Philippine education sector reveals the need to revisit programs and policies in professional development and support. Finally, recommendations are made for teacher education programs to guide teacher candidates' experiences towards a more inclusive profession.
