  • This paper presents a MOHA(Many-Task Computing on Hadoop) framework which aims to effectively apply the Many-Task Computing(MTC) technologies originally developed for high-performance processing of many tasks, to the existing Big Data processing platform Hadoop. We present basic concepts, motivation, preliminary results of PoC based on distributed message queue, and future research directions of MOHA. MTC applications may have relatively low I/O requirements per task. However, a very large number of tasks should be efficiently processed with potentially heavy inter-communications based on files. Therefore, MTC applications can show another pattern of data-intensive workloads compared to existing Hadoop applications, typically based on relatively large data block sizes. Through an effective convergence of MTC and Big Data technologies, we can introduce a new MOHA framework which can support the large-scale scientific applications along with the Hadoop ecosystem, which is evolving into a multi-application platform.

  • Objective: To investigate the effect of performing three different toe touch (TT) task condition on the activities of four different muscles using surface electromyography (sEMG) in healthy young adults. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: A total of 20 healthy young adults (6 males, 14 females) voluntarily participated in this study. All subject randomly performed three different TT task conditions as follows: general toe-touch (GTT) task, one side toe touch (TT) task during weight bearing, and one side foward toe touch (FTT) task during weight bearing. The muscle activities of erector spinae (ES), gluteus maximus (GM), hamstring (HAM), tibialis anterior (TA) muscles during the TT task were measured using sEMG. Subject performed each of the three conditions three time in random order and mean values were obtained. Results: With the trunk flexion period, the TT and FTT showed significantly greater muscle activity in the GM, HAM and TA compared to the GTT task (p<0.05). The TT position showed significantly greater HAM muscle activity than the GTT position. The dominant and nondominant ES muscle activity was significantly greater in the FTT compared to the GTT position (p<0.05). The dominant GM, HAM, and TA was significantly greater in the TT and FTT compared to the GTT position (p<0.05). Although the dominant ES was significantly greater in the TT and FTT compared to the GTT position (p<0.05), the dominant GM muscle activity was signifcantly greater in the TT compared with the GTT position (p<0.05). Conclusions: These findings may be applicable within the clinical field for selective trunk and lower extremity muscle activation and basic biomechanics purpose.

  • This paper analyses the torque characteristics of the shoulder and elbow joints of a humanoid robot arm that is useful for an object lifting and transferring task instead of human beings. For the purpose, some typical human lifting behaviors are considered, and various simulations for lifting and transferring an object have been performed by employing a humanoid robot arm having a simple configuration of shoulder and elbow joints. Through the simulation, it is shown that the torque patterns and ranges of the shoulder and elbow joints required for such a humanoid lifting and transferring task can be found earlier in the design of a humanoid robot arm. As a result, this effort is useful for us to design an effective robot arm.

  • Users can set manually Android phone to do particular tasks on some situations. This type of setting is inconvenient, and also provide with unnecessary services, which don't consider users' situation. In this research, we design and implement a context-aware automatic task setting application. Users can get context-aware service by setting desired tasks based on contexts using this system. We design a language for describing context-action rules, and statically check validity of context-action rules by performing syntax and semantic check.

  • This paper presents an approach to the design of real time task scheduling for a line controller of continuous manufacturing process automation. The line controller has multiprocessor-based architecture with shared memory and is operated by firmware. This firmware contains menu-driven software supporting real-time database management and fuction-block control language. The multitasking line control processor performs the following three functions: 1) interprets the function block control language by virtue of shared memory in the database; 2) invokes an interupt service routine as required by external hardware; 3) detects errors and notifies the user. We propose real time task scheduling method.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-leadership and teamwork in cooperative learning of capstone design. The results showed significant relationship between self-leadership and teamwork, with high self-leadership group obtaining higher teamwork scores than low self-leadership group. The results of stepwise analysis suggested that cognitive-oriented strategies, including cooperating more pleasant and enjoyable features into a given task, focusing on the task's inherently rewarding aspects, and focusing thoughts on positive aspects of the task, were the best predictors of overall teamwork. Therefore, it would be useful to provide the engineering students with the opportunities to develop their cognitive-oriented self-leadership strategies.
