  • With the development of high-cost vehicle detectors, low-cost detectors have also been studied due to the advantage that more detectors are provided within limited budgets. This study proposed a method to estimate vehicle speeds using vehicles' track data from auto manufacturers and time stamps obtained when vehicles' tires pass an inclined sensor (here, a tape switch sensor). In speed estimation, small vehicles and large vehicles is distinguished according to the ratio of time stamps for a wheelbase and a rear track obtained from a tape switch sensor. In particular, speed estimation can be adjusted through a parameter to determine vehicles' size so as to take into account location properties such as vehicles' classification ratio. The low-cost vehicle detector with an inclined sensor proposed in this study is expected to be widely utilized to monitor traffic conditions thanks to low cost.

  • This paper proposed the appropriate installation angle of skewed sensors for measuring vehicle wandering data, which are collected to figure out the location of dynamic weight of a moving vehicle on roadways. We developed a device using tape-switch sensors and a computer program and collected vehicle wandering data with the device and probe vehicles. As a result, the steeper the skewed sensor was installed, the lower the error was shown. However, we could not collect proper data when a skewed sensor was set up higher than $30^{\circ}$ due to tandem axle. Therefore, this study suggested the appropriate angle of skewed sensors as a degree of $20^{\circ}$ to $25^{\circ}$ for gathering wandering data.

  • In Korea the vehicle enforcement system(VES) detects speeding vehicle using two inductive loop detectors. And the speed reliability of theirs are evaluated through the analysis of image frame which is captured from video camera. This method is validated to evaluate VES on Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme(KOLAS) but it needs much time and expense for the analysis of image frame. Because the number of VES are increasing rapidly, the requirement of new evaluation method is necessary. On this paper, the tape switch sensor as a substitution of existing method was introduced and its application on the site are discussed. On the site test we compared the tape switch sensor on the speed measurement of vehicle with the video image frame. As a result we have founded that the tape switch sensor is evaluated to be feasible system on site in respect to measure the overspeed vehicle.

  • To detect individual vehicular speed, double loop detection technique has been widely used. This paper investigates four methodologies to measure individual speed using only a single loop sensor in a traveling lane. Two methods developed earlier include estimating the speed by means of (Case 1) the slop of inductance wave form generated by the sensor and (Case 2) the average vehicle lengths. Two other methods are newly developed through this study, which are estimations by measuring (Case 3) the mean of wheelbases using the sensor installed traversal to the traveling lane and (Case 4) the mean of wheel tracks by the sensor installed diagonally to the traveling lane. These four methodologies were field-tested and their accuracy of speed output was compared statistically. This study used Equality Coefficient and Mean Absolute Percentage Error for the assessment. It was found that the method (Case 1) was best accurate, followed by method (Case 4), (Case 2), and (Case 3).

  • The purpose of this study is to develop three functions for smartphones and PCs using a textile touch sensor in an everyday sports jacket and to present their usefulness; to this end, we have developed a mutual capacitive textile touch sensor and corresponding structure, and we have implemented three functions into a textile touch sensor jacket, of which we also conducted a usability evaluation. The jacket has a sensor on the wrist of the left sleeve and a device on the left arm. The sensor system can be divided into three main categories: a sensor acting as a switch, a circuit connecting the sensor and the device, and the device that acts as power control and system on/off. The functions are implemented in the texture touch sensor jacket in three modes: cell phone mode, music mode, and PPT presentation mode. We conducted an evaluation of each function in each mode, which indicated that all functions performed well without errors and that the switch had excellent operation for the number and intensity of touch. In terms of usability in a humid environment, the performance of touch functions was found to be equally implemented. In the temperature environment, neither high nor low temperatures caused issues with the functions. A wearing satisfaction assessment evaluated psychological satisfaction, clothing convenience, device convenience, device usability, and device effectiveness. This research jacket is thought to be desirable for the relatively bendable, flexible, and intimate sensor used on the clothing, and the circuit made of conductive fabric tape.

  • The persistent current mode operation of HTS coils is one of the key technologies required for very high-field MRI magnets composed of LTS and HTS coils. But to date, the fabrication of persistent current mode system using HTS is not investigated well. In this paper, we fabricated the magnet and PCS using by BSCCO-2223 tape and jointed them with solder. The current decay behavior of the circuit was measured in liquid nitrogen by monitoring the magnetic field in the centre of magnet with a Hall sensor. To enhance the characteristic of persistent current mode system, superconducting joint method should be investigated.

  • The mechanization efficiency using high ability machines such as tractors or combines in a paddy field rice farm is high. Mechanization in harvesting fruits and vegetables is difficult, because they are easy to be damaged. Therefore, Advanced techniques for careful handling fruits and vegetables are necessary in automation and robotization. An apple harvesting robot must have a recognition device to detect the positioning of fruit, manipulators which function like human arms, and hand to take off the fruit. This study is related to the development of a rotatic hand as the first stage in developing the apple harvesting robot. The results are summarized as follows. 1. It was found that a hand that was eccentric in rotatory motion, was better than a hand of semicircular up-and-down motion in harvesting efficiency. 2. The hand was developed to control changes in grasp forces by using tape-type switch sensor which was attatched to fingers' inside. 3. Initial finger positioning was set up to control accurate harvesting by using a tow step fingering position. 4. This study showed the possibility of apple harvesting using the developed robot hand.

  • Wandering, variation of wheel tracks, has not been considered as an important factor for pavement designs and maintenance due to measuring difficulties. In order to investigate vehicle lateral displacements on roadways, this study measured wheel tracks on two-lane and four-lane National highways with lane widths 3.25m and 3.5m. The results showed that the tracks of left and right wheels were distributed into different forms, and those of left wheels were more concentrated. In the mean of the left distributions, 59.5cm and 80.7cm were obtained on lane widths 3.25m and 3.5m respectively by cars, and 58.4cm and 73.6cm were obtained by trucks. These mean differences seem to be generated from those between the lane widths. It is recommended to apply the distribution of left wheel tracks for pavement designs.
