  • We consider a curve $\alpha$= $\alpha$(s) in Minkowski 3-space $E_1^3$ and denote by {T, N, B} the Frenet frame of $\alpha$. We say that $\alpha$ is a slant helix if there exists a fixed direction U of $E_1^3$ such that the function is constant. In this work we give characterizations of slant helices in terms of the curvature and torsion of $\alpha$. Finally, we discuss the tangent and binormal indicatrices of slant curves, proving that they are helices in $E_1^3$.

  • A sumbanifold M of a quaternionic Kaehlerian manifold $\tilde{M}^m$ of real dimension 4m is called a generic submanifold if the normal space N(M) of M is always mapped into the tangent space T(M) under the action of the quaternionic Kaehlerian structure tensors of the ambient manifold at the same time. The purpose of the present paper is to study generic submanifold of quaternionic Kaehlerian manifold of constant Q-sectional curvature with nonvanishing parallel mean curvature vector. In section 1, we state general formulas on generic submanifolds of a quaternionic Kaehlerian manifold of constant Q-sectional curvature. Section 2 is devoted to the study generic submanifolds with nonvanishing parallel mean curvature vector and compute the restricted Laplacian for the second fundamental form in the direction of the mean curvature vector. As applications of those results, in section 3, we prove our main theorems. In this paper, the dimension of a manifold will always indicate its real dimension.

  • Continuation power flow has been developed to remove the ill-condition problem caused by singularity of power flow Jacobian at and near at steady-state voltage instability point in conventional power flow. Continuation power flow consists of predictor and corrector. In prddictor, the direction vector at the resent solution is caluculated and the initial guess of next solution is determined at the distance of step length. The selection of step length is a very important part, since computational speed and convergence performance are both greatly affected by the choice of the step length. This paper presents the practical step length selection algorithm using the reactive power generation sensitivith. In numulation, the proposed algorithm is compared with step length selection algorithm using TVI(tangent vector index).

  • We present a novel approach for the simulation of color pencil effects using line integral convolution (LIC) to produce pencil drawings from images. Our key idea is to use a bilateral convolution filter to simulate the various effects of pencil strokes. Our filter resolves the drawbacks of the existing convolution-based schemes, and presents an intuitive control to mimic the properties of pencil strokes. We also present a scheme that determines stroke directions from the shapes to be drawn. Smooth tangent flows are used for the pixels close to feature lines, and partially parallel flows inside regions. The background is rendered using a flow of fixed direction. Using different styles of stroke directions increases the realism of the resulting images. This approach produces convincing pencil drawing effects from photographs.

  • Experimental tests are described on three ring stiffened machined circular cylinders and three ring stiffened machined circular cones, which were tested to destruction under uniform external pressure. All six vessels failed by inelastic general instability. The experiments showed that the vessels initially deformed plastically at mid-bay in the circumferential direction, and this caused the circumferential tangent modulus to become much less than the elastic Young's modulus, causing the vessels to fail through plastic general instability at pressures much less than that predicted by elastic theory. Based on a thinness ratio, two semi-empirical design charts are provided, which are intended to be used for design purposes in conjunction with the finite element method and a plastic reduction factor.

  • This paper is devoted to the geometry of vector fields and timelike flows in terms of anholonomic coordinates in three dimensional Lorentzian space. We discuss eight parameters which are related by three partial differential equations. Then, it is seen that the curl of tangent vector field does not include any component in the direction of principal normal vector field. This implies the existence of a surface which contains both s - lines and b - lines. Moreover, we examine a normal congruence of timelike surfaces containing the s - lines and b - lines. Considering the compatibility conditions, we obtain the Gauss-Mainardi-Codazzi equations for this normal congruence of timelike surfaces in the case of the abnormality of normal vector field is zero. Intrinsic geometric properties of these normal congruence of timelike surfaces are obtained. We have dealt with important results on these geometric properties.

  • A level set based topological shape optimization method for nonlinear structure considering hyper-elastic problems is developed. To relieve significant convergence difficulty in topology optimization of nonlinear structure due to inaccurate tangent stiffness which comes from material penalization of whole domain, explicit boundary for exact tangent stiffness is used by taking advantage of level set function for arbitrary boundary shape. For given arbitrary boundary which is represented by level set function, a Delaunay triangulation scheme is used for current structure discretization instead of using implicit fixed grid. The required velocity field in the actual domain to update the level set equation is determined from the descent direction of Lagrangian derived from optimality conditions. The velocity field outside the actual domain is determined through a velocity extension scheme based on the method suggested by Adalsteinsson and Sethian(1999). The topological derivatives are incorporated into the level set based framework to enable to create holes whenever and wherever necessary during the optimization.

  • This paper describes the steady flow characteristics due to PDA and tumble control valve in combustion chamber. We also investigated the flow inclination angle defined as the inverse tangent of non-dimensional rig tumble(NRT) devided by non-dimensional rig swirl(NRS) to find dominant flow direction. So we adapted two different types of PDA valve(port deactivation valve) to strengthen a swirl flow. The in-cylinder swirl flow different tendency between with/without PDA valve. It might be thought to be affected by swirl flow. We could find that tumble ratio and swirl ratio is different by PDA valve. The comparison are taked account of the swirl, the tumble ratio comparison in same mass flow rate. As a result, PDA valve is better than tumble control valve both in steady flow condition and swirl, tumble ratio. The data from present study are available for design of engine as the basic data.

  • Among other poly(4,4'-terephthanilidealkylamide)s (PTAA's), poly (4,4'-terephthanilideadipamide) (PTAd) gave clear critical concentration curves. For PTAA's with methylene units more than 6, the critical concentration (C*) seemed to be beyond the solubility limit of H₂SO₄. Under shearing conditions, the nematic domains were easily oriented and stretched in the direction of shear , and a fibrillar structure resulted. At low frequencies, a monotollous reduction of loss tangent (tan) was observed as concentration increased. At high frequencies, however, tan was increased above C* again, and showed maximum at saturation concentration (Cs). With increasing temperature, viscosity of isotropic and anisotropic phases was normally decreased, while viscosity of biphases was increased. Plot of complex viscosity (If) against temperature based on rheological measurements exhibited a good correlation with phase diagram constructed by polarizing microscope observations. Rheological parameters suggested the optimum dope concentration of PTAd with inherent viscosity 2.02 at 30oc is in the vicinity of 19.2 wt%, which seemed to agree well with spinning experiments (around 19.4 wt%). In general, effects of spinning and annealing conditions on the mechanical properties of PTAA fibres were most pronounced in PTAd fibre spun from anisotropic spinning dope .

  • In this paper, small WLAN antenna was designed and investigated. Proposed antenna was configured for microstrip patch antenna ($29mm{\times}29mm$) that was mounted on RF4 dielectric substrate (relative permittivity 4.4, thick 1.6mm, tangent loss 0.025) with $45mm{\times}45mm$. In order to obtain a wide band characteristic, the cutting process was 3.2mm diagonal corners of the patch antenna located on the top of the substrate. Antenna feeding position for 50 ohm impedance matching was decided to be 5.1mm at the central axis in the horizontal direction. As a result, frequency bandwidth satisfying the condition of VSWR<2dB was 2.365-2.45GHz (85MHz, 3.53%) for considering WLAN.
