  • Recently, regulations of the government and concerns of people give rise to the interest in exhaust and intake noise of passenger car as much as other vehicles. In these demands, performance prediction software with hybrid method was developed at first. Secondly, robust design was used for improving the noise reduction capacity of intake system with the performance prediction software. On the basis of the existing design, length and radios of each component that was thought to effect on the capacity of intake system was selected. The factors were arranged by using L18 table of orthogonal array and optimum value was obtained.

  • Partial high frequency bands were allocated to the operation of ocean surface radars that monitor the sea surface currents and waves in WRC-12. On that basis, government-related organizations revised the table of domestic frequency allocation. In order to study radio environments in the allocated bands for ocean radar, tests of the radio signal spectrum were carried at 7-sites using the receiver of the ocean surface radar system operated with a shutdown of the transmitter for 10-60 min. The results showed that no serious radio noises occur at 25 and 43 MHz bands, indicating a good radio environment for the ocean surface radar operation. However, at 13 MHz band, it was difficult to generate stable and confidential data from the ocean surface radar because serious radio noises occurred continuously.

  • The governing differential equations and the boundary conditions for the free vibra- tion of the unsymmetric parabolic arch with fixed ends are derived on the basis of the equilibrium equations and the D'Alembert principle. The effect of the rotary inertia as well as the extensional and the flexural deformations is considered in the governing differential equations. A trial eigenvalue method is used for determining the natural frequencies. The Ru- uge-Kutta method is used in this method to perform the integration of the differential equations. The detailed studies are made of the lowest three vibration frequencies for the par- abolic chord length equal to 10m. The effect of the rotary inertia is analyzed and it's numerical data are presented in table. And as the numerical results the frequency versus the rise of arch and the radius of gyration are presented in figures.

  • The distribution of plant communities along the Bukhan Riverside in Chun-seong was studied by means of the methods fo Curtis and Pattern. The communities were arranged in a single-dimensioned ordination on the basis of the importance values of the persistent species. Leading dominant species, form the 'low' level to the 'high' levels of the ordination gradient, were Phalaris arundinacea, Salix gilgiana, Artemisia feddei, Zoysia japonica, Pennisetum japonicum, and Arundinella hirta. These species from a continuum from the river to the dry grassland depending upon available soil-moisture. Standing crops in terms of dry weight and the nitrogen content of the above-ground parts of these species showed a good relationship with gradients of available soil-moisture.

  • In the past, when there were few vehicles on the road, the T.O.D.(Time of Day) traffic signal worked very well. The T.O.D. signal operates on a preset signal cycling which cycles on the basis of the average number of average passenger cars in the memory device of an electric signal unit. Now days, with increasing many vehicles on restricted roads, the conventional traffic light creates startup-delay time and end-lag-time. The conventional traffic light loses the function of optimal cycle. And so, $30-45\%$ of conventional traffic cycle is not matched to the present traffic cycle. In this paper we proposes electro sensitive traffic light using fuzzy look up table method which will reduce the average vehicle waiting time and improve average vehicle speed. Computer simulation results prove that reducing the average vehicle waiting time which proposed considering passing vehicle length for optimal traffic cycle is better than fixed signal method which doesn't consider vehicle length.

  • The evaluation of the allowable bearing capacity is the most important step in the design of a foundation. An accurate evaluation of the effect of all factors such as the physical properties of the soil located beneath the area, the size of the area, the depth of foundation, and the position of the water table is impracticable Therefore, the designer is compelled to estimate the allowable bearing capacity on the basis of simple semiempirical rules under cohesionless soils. This paper deals with semiemperical rules for determining allowable bearing capacity based on observed relations between the results of standard penetration test. Additional comparisions between the results of the theoretical methods and the emperical rules are performed to suggest more conservative design for the engineer.

  • In this paper, a next generation high speed QPSK transmitter is designed based on 1.8${\mu}$m design rule. The designed transmitter supports the MPEG2-TS coded packed data for the DAVIC standard. Transmitter is composed of the convolutional coder, the shortened Reed-Solomon coder, and QPSK modulator. The coded packets are modulated in APSK with an RC filter. Especially, Galois Field multiplier with a standard basis is designed with the pipelined parallel architecture. Also, in the QPSK modulator, the RC filter and mixer are simplified into the ROM table, which can improve the performance of the transmitter. The total number of gates for the implemented baseband transmitter is 26,875.

  • The evaluation of food taste is one of the important activities of human consciousness and it is practiced by sensory analysis using 5 terminal sensorial consciousness among many other functions. These consciousness activities may be conducted by 3 way branching transformation (3-WBT) logic, which choose one out of 3 options under the multi-layered consciousness decision making system. On the basis of this logic, cognitive sensory evaluation (CSE) method was developed to carry out questionnaire survey covering objective and subjective issues during consumption of food for pregnant women. The results of the CSE for several food items was presented with the Table-pattern called CSET covering consciousness factors and their effects on the food consumers.

  • The experimental studies were intended to clarify the effects of selection, and also aimed at estimating the heritabilities, the genotypic correlations among some agronomic characters, and at calculating the selection index on some selective characters for the selection of desirable lines, under different climatic conditions. Finally practical implications of these studies, especially on the selection index, were discussed. Twenty-two varieties, determinate growing habit type, were selected at random from the 138 soybean varieties cultivated the year before, were grown in a randomized block design with three replicates at Chinju, Korea, under May and June sowing conditions. The method of estimating heritabilities for the eleven agronomic characters-flowering date, maturity date, stem length, branch numbers per plant, stem diameter, plant weight, pod numbers per plant, grain numbers per plant and 100 grain weight, shown in Table 3, was the variance components procedures in a replicated trial for the varieties. The analysis of covariance was used to obtain the genotypic correlations and phenotypic correlations among the eight characters, and the selection indexes for some agronomic characters were calculated by Robinson's method. The results are summarized as follows: Heritabilities : The experiment on the genotype-environment interaction revealed that in almost all of the characters investigated the interaction was too large to be neglected and materially affected the estimates of various genotypic parameters. The variation in heritability due to the change of environments was larger in the characters of low heritability than in those of high heritability. Heritability values of flowering date, fruiting period (days from flowering to maturity), stem length and 100 grain weight were the highest in both environments, those of yield(grain weight) and other characters were showed the lower values(Table 3). These heritability values showed a decreasing trend with the delayed sowing in the experiments. Further, all calculated heritability values were higher than anticipated. This was expected since these values, which were the broad sense heritability, contain the variance due to dominance and epistasisf in addition to the additive genetic variance. Genotypic correlations : Genotypic correlations were slightly higher than the corresponding phenotypic correlations in both environments, but the variation in values due to the change of environment appeared between grain weight and some other characters, especially an increase between grain weight and flowering date, and the total growing period(Table 6). Genotypic correlations between grain weight and other characters indicated that high seed yield was genetically correlated with late flowering, late maturity, and the other five characters namely branch numbers per plant, stem diameter, plant weight, pod numbers per plant and grain numbers per plant, but not with 100 grain weight of soybeans. Pod numbers and grain numbers per plant were more closely correlated with seed yields than with other characters. Selection index : For the comparison and the use of selection indexes in the selection, two kinds of selection indexes were calculated, the former was called selection index A and the later selection index B as shown in Table 7. Selection index A was calculated by the values of grain weight per plant as the character of yield(character Y), but the other, selection index B, was calculated by the values of pod numbers per plant, instead of grain weight per plant, as the character of yield'(character Y'). These results suggest that selection index technique is useful in soybean breeding. In reality, however, as the selection index varies with population and environment, it must be calculated in each population to which selection is applied and in each environment in which the population is located. In spite of the expected usefulness of selection index technique in soybean breeding, unsolved problems such as the expense, time and labor involved in calculating the selection index remain. For these reasons and from these experimental studies, it was recognized that in the breeding of self-fertilized soybean plants the selection for yield should be based on a more simple selection index such as selection index B of these experiments rather than on the complex selection index such as selection index A. Furthermore, it was realized that the selection index for the selection should be calculated on the basis of the data of some 3-4 agronomic characters-maturity date(X$_1$), branch numbers per plant(X$_2$), stem diameter(X$_3$) and pod numbers per plant etc. It must be noted that it should be successful in selection to select for maturity date(X$_1$) which has high heritability, and the selection index should be calculated easily on the basis of the data of branch numbers per plant(X$_2$), stem diameter(X$_3$) and pod numbers per plant, directly after the harvest before drying and threshing. These characters should be very useful agronomic characters in the selection of Korean soybeans, determinate growing habit type, as they could be measured or counted easily thus saving time and expense in the duration from harvest to drying and threshing, and are affected more in soybean yields than the other agronomic characters.
