  • Since its first release in 2007, the National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation (NIFDS) has provided pharmacogenomic and comparative information specific to Koreans to allow regulatory reviewers and researchers to adapt their working practices to pharmacogenomics. The highlights of this year's additions include "Drug Information", "Gene Information" and "Pharmacogenomic information in the drug labels" sections. These new additions provide information on 737 genes, 719 drugs and pharmacogenomic data of the labels or relabels of 253 approved drugs as of November 2008. The latest version of the Korean Pharmacogenomic Database (KPD, release 2.0) has expanded significantly since its previous release. More SNP and haplotype information has been added to the database with the latest version of the KPD containing approximately four times as many SNPs and haplotypes than the previous version (719 vs. 152, and 30 vs. 7 respectively). Through the "SNP" and "Haplotype" sections, the KPD provides unique Korean SNP and haplotype information as well as comparative information of other populations (Japanese, Chinese, European, African) to offer a range of pharmacogenomic data that can help reviewers and the public understand pharmacogenomic information. The quality and quantity of information in the KPD has also been improved considerably. This data can be found at: http://www.nitr.go.kr/nitr/contents/m134700/view.do/.

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop of the Korean intensive care delirium screening tool (KICDST). Methods: The KICDST was developed in 5 steps: Configuration of conceptual frame, development of preliminary tool, pilot study, reliability and validity test, development of final KICDST. Reliability tests were done using degree of agreement between evaluators and internal consistency. For validity tests, CVI (Content Validity Index), ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristics) analysis, known group technique and factor analysis were used. Results: In the reliability test, the degree of agreement between evaluators showed .80~1.00 and the internal consistency was KR-20=.84. The CVI was .83~1.00. In ROC analysis, the AUC (Area Under the ROC Curve) was .98. Assessment score was 4 points. The values for sensitivity, specificity, correct classification rate, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were found to be 95.0%, 93.7%, 94.4%, 95.0% and 93.7%, respectively. In the known group technique, the average delirium screening tool score of the non-delirium group was $1.25{\pm}0.99$ while that of delirium group was $5.07{\pm}1.89$ (t= - 16.33, p <.001). The factors were classified into 3 factors (cognitive change, symptom fluctuation, psychomotor retardation), which explained 67.4% of total variance. Conclusion: Findings show that the KICDST has high sensitivity and specificity. Therefore, this screening tool is recommended for early identification of delirium in intensive care patients.

  • Almost of stroke patients who experience aftereffects such as motor, sensory and cognitive disorders have to take some rehabilitation therapies. It is known that the consistent training for rehabilitation therapy in their home is more effective than rehabilitation therapy in hospital. A few home training programs were developed but these programs don't give any appropriate feedback messages to the client. Therefore, we developed a home training program which can provide appropriate feedback message to the clients using the Kinect sensor which can analyze user's 3-D dimensional motion. With this development, the client can obtain some feedback messages such as the knowledges of performance, results and self-controlled feedback. The program will be more effective than any existing programs.

  • We have investigated the effect of $Y_2O_3$ nanoparticles on the pinning properties of $Y_2O_3$-doped $GdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (GdBCO) films. Both undoped and $Y_2O_3$-doped GdBCO films were grown on $CeO_2$-buffered MgO (100) single crystal substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) using KrF (${\lambda}=248nm$) laser. The $Y_2O_3$ doping contents were controlled up to ~ 2.5 area% by varying the internal angles of $Y_2O_3$ sectors put on the top surface of GdBCO target. Compared with the $Gd_2O_3$-doped GdBCO films previously reported by our group [1], the $Y_2O_3$-doped GdBCO films exhibited less severe critical temperature ($T_c$) drop and thus slightly enhanced critical current densities ($J_c$) and pinning force densities ($F_p$) at 65 K for the applied field parallel to the c-axis of the GdBCO matrix (B//c) with increasing the doping content. Below 40 K, the in-field $J_c$ and $F_p$ values of all $Y_2O_3$-doped GdBCO films exhibited higher than those of undoped GdBCO film, suggesting that $Y_2O_3$ inclusions might act as effective pinning centers.

  • Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) is an analytical technique that can provide the structural, physical and chemical information of materials. The EELS spectra can be obtained by combining with TEM at sub-nanometer spatial resolution. However, EELS spectral information can't be obtained easily because in order to interpret EELS spectra, we need to refer to and/or compare many reference data with each other. And in addition to that, we should consider the different experimental variables used to produce each data. Therefore, reliable and easily interpretable EELS standard reference data are needed. Our Electron Energy Loss Data Center (EELDC) has been designated as National Standard Electron Energy Loss Data Center No. 34 to develop EELS standard reference (SR) data and to play a role in dissemination and diffusion of the SR data to users. EELDC has developed and collected EEL SR data for the materials required by major industries and has a total of 82 EEL SR data. Also, we have created an online platform that provides a one-stop-place to help users interpret quickly EELS spectra and get various spectral information. In this paper, we introduce EEL SR data, the homepage of EELDC and how to use them.
