  • Radial light profiles of bars are known to be related to the morphology of their host galaxies in a way that bars in early type disk galaxies show flat radial light profile, while bars in late type disk galaxies show exponential profile. To quantify how flat or steep bar profiles are, we have performed detailed two-dimensional decompositions on 3.6 micron images for 144 barred galaxies from the Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S4G), and then modeled bar profiles with Sersic functions. We find that bars in classical bulge, higher bulge-to-total (B/T) galaxies are flatter than bars in bulgeless, lower B/T galaxies. In particular, we find that the presence of a bulge almost always guarantees that the bar is flat. Conversely, bulgeless galaxies, mostly have bars with steep profiles. This implies that the light profile of bars may be a dynamical age indicator of bars. We also find that the shape of bars are boxy and do not change with B/T. This indicates that as galaxies evolve, bars change their light profile while keeping their outermost shape boxy.

  • One of the limitations to conducting maize Agrobacterium-mediated transformation using explants of immature zygotic embryos routinely is the availability of the explants. To produce immature embryos routinely and continuously requires a well-equipped greenhouse and laborious artificial pollination. To overcome this limitation, an Agrobacterium-mediated transformation system using explants of type II embryogenic calli was developed. Once the type II embryogenic calli are produced, they can be subcultured and/or proliferated conveniently. The objectives of this study were to demonstrate a stable Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of maize using explants of type II embryonic calli and to evaluate the efficiency of the protocol in order to develop herbicide-resistant maize. The type II embryogenic calli were inoculated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain C58C1 carrying binary vector pTF102, and then were subsequently cultured on the following media: co-cultivation medium for 1 day, delay medium for 7 days, selection medium for $4{\times}14$ days, regeneration medium, and finally on germination medium. The T-DNA of the vector carried two cassettes (Ubi promoter-EPSPs ORF-nos and 35S promoter-bar ORF-nos). The EPSPs conferred resistance to glyphosate and bar conferred resistance to phosphinothricin. The confirmation of stable transformation and the efficiency of transformation was based on the resistance to phosphinothricin indicated by the growth of putative transgenic calli on selection medium amended with $4mg\;1^{-1}$ phosphinothricin, northern blot analysis of bar gene, and leaf painting assay for detection of bar gene-based herbicide resistance. Northern blot analysis and leaf painting assay confirmed the expression of bar transgenes in the $R_1$ generation. The average transformation efficiency was 0.60%. Based on northern blot analysis and leaf painting assay, line 31 was selected as an elite line of maize resistant to herbicide.

  • Threshing operation is performed by impact, compression and friction forces inside the thresher. These values should be appropriate to the crop condition to enhance the threshing and separating efficiency and to decrease the grain damage. To analyze the threshing process inside the rasp-bar type thresher, impact, friction and compression forces were measured using transducers with strain gage circuits. To measure the impact forces and friction forces between the rasp-bar and crop, full bridge strain gage circuit was built on the rasp-bar holder. To measure the compression forces and circumferential friction forces between the concave and crop, two sets of full bridge strain gage circuits were built on the T-type concave transducer. Threshing work of wheat crop with 12% of moisture content was performed at 3 levels of compression ratio and with 3 replications. Each transducer could not measure the exact forces continuously because the transducer oscillates with the forces. However they could measure maximum forces and force distribution according to the time. Average friction coefficients between crop and concave was 0.61 not showing any significant difference according to the compression ratio. Average acceleration of the crop in the cylinder appeared from $70.6m/s^2$ to $140.8m/s^2$ according to the compression ratio. The velocity of the crop at the exit of the cylinder appeared from 10.7m/s to 15.0m/s according to the compression ratio.

  • This experiment was carried out to confirm the stability of bar gene introduced into petunia plant through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, in successive generation, or after crossing or back-crossing. Some of different 25 transgenic plants were used in crossing and back-crossing to wild type, or repeated-selfing to T$_4$ generation. On the processing of experiment, it was found that some lines lost their resistant ability to herbicide basta, or showed non-Mendelian segregation mode: produced much more susceptible segregants than resistant plants. Even though there are exceptional cases, which was off from expected, the genetic stability of bar gene introduced could be confirmed strongly, because in almost case, the segregation of resistant and susceptible plants to basta was done under Mendelian-law according to single gene dominant model.

  • In [6], it was shown that hyponormality for Toeplitz operators with polynomial symbols can be reduced to classical Schur's algorithm in function theory. In [6], Zhu has also given the explicit values of the Schur's functions ${\Phi}_0$, ${\Phi}_1$ and ${\Phi}_2$. Here we explicitly evaluate the Schur's function ${\Phi}_3$. Using this value we find necessary and sufficient conditions under which the Toeplitz operator $T_{\varphi}$ is hyponormal, where ${\varphi}$ is a trigonometric polynomial given by ${\varphi}(z)$ = ${\sum}^N_{n=-N}a_nz_n(N{\geq}4)$ and satisfies the condition $\bar{a}_N\(\array{a_{-1}\\a_{-2}\\a_{-4}\\{\vdots}\\a_{-N}}\)=a_{-N}\;\(\array{\bar{a}_1\\\bar{a}_2\\\bar{a}_4\\{\vdots}\\\bar{a}_N}\)$. Finally we illustrate the easy applicability of the derived results with a few examples.

  • For a complex measure ${\mu}$ on B and $f{\in}L^2_a(B)$, the Toeplitz operator $T_{\mu}$ on $L^2_a(B,dv)$ with symbol ${\mu}$ is formally defined by $T_{\mu}(f)(w)=\int_{B}f(w)\bar{K(z,w)}d{\mu}(w)$. We will investigate properties of the Toeplitz operator $T_{\mu}$ with symbol ${\mu}$. We define the Toeplitz type operator $T^r_{\psi}$ with symbol ${\psi}$, $$T^r_{\psi}f(z)=c_r\int_{B}\frac{(1-{\parallel}w{\parallel}^2)^r}{(1-{\langle}z,w{\rangle})^{n+r+1}}{\psi}(w)f(w)d{\nu}(w)$$. We will also investigate properties of the Toeplitz type operator with symbol ${\psi}$.

  • This experiment was carried out to confirm the stability of bar gene introduced into petunia plant through Agrobacerium-mediated transformation. Twenty-five transgenic plants T$_{0}$ plants, back cross (BC$_1$) populations to wild type and F$_1$plants between different T$_{0}$ plants were prepared, and polymerase chain reaction(PCR), PCR-Southern blot analysis, and field test with 0.1% Basta treatment were done. The results of PCR, PCR-Southern blot hybridization, and field test indicated that NPTII and bar gene introduced into the genome of petuina plants were stably transmitted to their progenies, and conferred the plants resistance to herbicide, Basta.sta.

  • In Korea, the seismic design of non-structural elements was interested by Earthquake of the 2016 Gyeong-ju and 2017 Po-hang. Among the non-structural elements, the ceiling system with steel panel used in Po-hang station showed failure examples of non-seismic design ceiling. In this study, the seismic performance of suspended ceiling with steel-panel, such as those used in Po-hang Station, was evaluated by shaking table tests. The shaking table tests were performed in accordance with the ICC-ES AC156 standard with floor acceleration being applied horizontally in one direction using a $3.3{\times}3.3m^2$ frame. The ceiling system consists of steel-panels, carrying channels, main and cross T-bars, and anti-falling clips. The anti-falling clip prevents the steel panel falling completely. The shaking table test confirmed that the damage at the previous stage had a direct impact on the damage state at the next stage. Through the shaking table test, the damage state of the T-bar type steel-panel suspended ceiling system was defined.

  • This study investigated the bond characteristics of embedded deformed steel bar in donut type biaxial hollow slabs. The donut type hollow sphere make concrete inner cover formed between steel bar and hollow sphere due to the hollow shape and arrangement. Generally, inner cover was thinner than outer cover, and some part of donut type biaxial hollow slab has smaller inner cover thickness than $2.5d_b$. It was affected to the bond condition of deformed bar. Furthermore, inner cover thickness changes along the longitudinal deformed bar due to hollow shape. Therefore, donut type hollow slab was divided 3 regions according to the hollow shape such as insufficient region, transition region, sufficient region. Pull-out test were performed to find out the effect of bond condition by the region. Main parameters are inner cover thickness, embedded length and bond location. Bond characteristics of donut type biaxial hollow slab were confirmed through comparison of bond stress-slip relationship, maximum bond strength and bond stress distribution of each regions. And the calculation method of bond strength of donut type biaxial hollow slab was suggested based on the test results.
