The research work is concerned with the analytical and experimental studies on the heat transfer phenomenon around the underground concrete digester used for biogas production Systems. A mathematical and computational method was developed to estimate heat losses from underground cylindrical concrete digester used for biogas production systems. To test its feasibility and to evaluate thermal parameters of materials related, the method was applied to six physical model digesters. The cylindrical concrete digester was taken as a physical model, to which the model,atical model of heat balance can be applied. The mathematical model was transformed by means of finite element method and used to analyze temperature distribution with respect to several boundary conditions and design parameters. The design parameters of experimental digesters were selected as; three different sizes 40cm by 80cm, 80cm by 160cm and l00cm by 200cm in diameter and height; two different levels of insulation materials-plain concrete and vermiculite mixing in concrete; and two different types of installation-underground and half-exposed. In order to carry out a particular aim of this study, the liquid within the digester was substituted by water, and its temperature was controlled in five levels-35。 C, 30。 C, 25。 C, 20。C and 15。C; and the ambient air temperature and ground temperature were checked out of the system under natural winter climate conditions. The following results were drawn from the study. 1.The analytical method, by which the estimated values of temperature distribution around a cylindrical digester were obtained, was able to be generally accepted from the comparison of the estimated values with the measured. However, the difference between the estimated and measured temperature had a trend to be considerably increased when the ambient temperature was relatively low. This was mainly related variations of input parameters including the thermal conductivity of soil, applied to the numerical analysis. Consequently, the improvement of these input data for the simulated operation of the numerical analysis is expected as an approach to obtain better refined estimation. 2.The difference between estimated and measured heat losses was shown to have the similar trend to that of temperature distribution discussed above. 3.It was found that a map of isothermal lines drawn from the estimated temperature distribution was very useful for a general observation of the direction and rate of heat transfer within the boundary. From this analysis, it was interpreted that most of heat losses is passed through the triangular section bounded within 45 degrees toward the wall at the bottom edge of the digesten Therefore, any effective insulation should be considered within this region. 4.It was verified by experiment that heat loss per unit volume of liquid was reduced as the size of the digester became larger For instance, at the liquid temperature of 35˚ C, the heat loss per unit volume from the 0. 1m$^3$ digester was 1, 050 Kcal/hr m$^3$, while at for 1. 57m$^3$ digester was 150 Kcal/hr m$^3$. 5.In the light of insulation, the vermiculite concrete was consistently shown to be superior to the plain concrete. At the liquid temperature ranging from 15。 C to 350 C, the reduction of heat loss was ranged from 5% to 25% for the half-exposed digester, while from 10% to 28% for the fully underground digester. 6.In the comparison of heat loss between the half-exposed and underground digesters, the heat loss from the former was fr6m 1,6 to 2, 6 times as much as that from the latter. This leads to the evidence that the underground digester takes advantage of heat conservation during winter.

Due mainly to the complexity of educational system, it is difficult to comprehend the phenomena and nature of the science education. Educators have developed various kinds of means and methods useful for easy understanding of the phenomena and nature. This study added another method supporting that the phenomena and nature of the science education should be understood in the context of educational system. System approach into thought is holistic and contextual in nature. It focuses on both the whole and its relevant parts, and is concerned with environmental context. By its definition, a system interact not only with another system but also with its environments. The purpose of this study was to answer such questions as "What is the science education?", or "What is the meaning of the science education?", "Why do we teach science?", "Why are we ought to teach science?", and "How do we know that those facts and methods are valid?" The results for the study are as follows: 1. Science education is the human behavior with the purpose to attain something through science and education. It is socio-cultural process, social and organizational activity into which the public deeply involved. The process and activity are usually undergirded upon the value of science education. 2. The science education system is analyzed in the light of the legislative institution. The system model that characterize of the system and the interrelationship among the systems is suggested in terms of the conceptions of boundary, components, variables, parameters and linkage, etc. Then, the science education system is divided into the plan-system, do-system and see-system by the use of the criterion of plan-do-see that is the general process of human activity. The study also identified that the system of science education is consisted of the aspects of science education administration, school science education, and science education evaluation. 3. As the frame of thought on the contextuality in the science education system, the contexts of meaning, organization, legislation and policy were presented, along with the main cognitive interest, the system, the orientation, and the premise of each context which were used to explain the reasons. The results of this study suggested a new approach into the comprehension of the educational phenomena in teaching science and the possibility of understanding science education as a whole.
Vehicle segmentation, which extracts vehicle areas from road scenes, is one of the fundamental opera tions in lots of application areas including Intelligent Transportation Systems, and so on. We present a vehicle segmentation approach for still images captured from outdoor CCD cameras mounted on the supporting poles. We first divided the input image into a set of two-dimensional grids and then calculate the feature values of the edges for each grid. Through analyzing the feature values statistically, we can find the optimal rectangular grid area of the vehicle. Our preprocessing process calculates the statistics values for the feature values from background images captured under various circumstances. For a car image, we compare its feature values to the statistics values of the background images to finally decide whether the grid belongs to the vehicle area or not. We use dynamic programming technique to find the optimal rectangular gird area from these candidate grids. Based on the statistics analysis and global search techniques, our method is more systematic compared to the previous methods which usually rely on a kind of heuristics. Additionally, the statistics analysis achieves high reliability against noises and errors due to brightness changes, camera tremors, etc. Our prototype implementation performs the vehicle segmentation in average 0.150 second for each of $1280\times960$ car images. It shows $97.03\%$ of strictly successful cases from 270 images with various kinds of noises.
The purpose of this study is to explore teaching and learning strategies through analyzing cases of foreign engineering education. With the analysis criteria composed of engineering education model, teaching and learning method, evaluation strategy, and technology supporting strategy, 10 foreign colleges of engineering in 5 countries were examined and analyzed. Teaching and learning strategies deduced from analysis state as follows. First of all, it need to develop engineering education models that reform should be made in systematic approach to teaching and learning, workplaces and laboratories, evaluation, technology support, etc. Secondly, the strategy for teaching and learning recommends supporting student directed learning, active learning participation, and collaboration learning by inductive learning strategies such as problem based learning, inquiry learning, project based learning, studio based learning, and blended learning. Thirdly, the evaluation strategy suggests that evaluation should be made to reflect students' learning and facilitate continuous learning based current learning results while it is necessary to build up a whole evaluation system. Finally, it is the educational technology approach for systematic engineering education that is required considering that many foreign colleges of engineering have reformed engineering education through technology supporting systems and are maximizing research and education in connection with other universities. This study is expected to contribute as preliminary data in developing further teaching and learning models and strategies for nurturing engineering students.

OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is a special case of multicarrier transmission, where a single data stream is transmitted over a number of lower-rate subcarrier. One of the main reasons to use OFDM is to increase robustness against frequency-selective fading or narrowband interference. Unfortunately, an OFDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers, which can give a large PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) when added up coherently. In this paper, we investigate the performance of a simple PAPR reduction scheme, which requires no change of a receiver structure or no additional information transmission. The approach we employed is clipping in the time and frequency domains. The time-domain clipping is carried out with a predetermined clipping level while the frequency-domain clipping is done within EVM (Error Vector Magnitude). This approach is suboptimal with lower computational complexity compared to the optimal method. This evaluation is carried out on the OFDM system with an nonlinear amplifier. The simulation results demonstrated that the PAPR reduction algorithm is one of ways to reduce the effects of the nonlinear distortion of an HPA (High Power Amplifier).
Wood-culture is new paradigm which is substituted for the cement culture, and the study of wood-culture should keep pace with not only the study of a engineering science but also a sociological study to form a theory system. The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of sociological approach of the wood culture which have not yet tried at home and abroad; in view of structural-functionalism, systemical-functionalism, conflict theory, social-change theory by analyzing cases in Korea. In view of structural-functionalism, social system consists of cognition system, institution system, life system and technology system. These sub-systems fulfill the function of what-should-be, reasonability, reality and development. In view of systemical-functionalism, according to the acknowledgment and spreading proccess of the wood usefulness, wood culture system consists of the individual system, organizational system and the social system. In view of conflict theory, the society which has the wood culture can be classified into three types. The one is society which the traditional wood culture is declining and the cement culture is spreading. The other one is society which the cement culture is declining and the traditional wood culture is spreading. Another is Finally the society which the two type balance with. In view of social-change theory, the society can be classified into three types. The one is society which the wood culture is proceeding to the cement culture. The other is society which the cement culture is proceeding to the wood culture. Another is society which the wood culture changes itself. Finally, from a view of changing level, the society can be classified into three types: the micro-change, the middle-level-change, and the macro-change. It's need to study wood culture systemically in view of engineering and sociological science. And then it will be possible to make 'wood culture theory system'.
In this paper, we consider the method of partitioning a sphere into faces with a set of spherical convex polygons $\Gamma$=${P_1...P_n}$ for determining the maximum of minimum intersection. This problem is commonly related with five geometric problems that fin the densest hemisphere containing the maximum subset of $\Gamma$, a great circle separating $\Gamma$, a great circle bisecting $\Gamma$ and a great circle intersecting the minimum or maximum subset of $\Gamma$. In order to efficiently compute the minimum or maximum intersection of spherical polygons. we take the approach of edge-based partition, in which the ownerships of edges rather than faces are manipulated as the sphere is incrementally partitioned by each of the polygons. Finally, by gathering the unordered split edges with the maximum number of ownerships. we approximately obtain the centroids of the solution faces without constructing their boundaries. Our algorithm for finding the maximum intersection is analyzed to have an efficient time complexity O(nv) where n and v respectively, are the numbers of polygons and all vertices. Furthermore, it is practical from the view of implementation, since it computes numerical values. robustly and deals with all the degenerate cases, Using the similar approach, the boundary of a general intersection can be constructed in O(nv+LlogL) time, where : is the output-senstive number of solution edges.
As tourists travel to other regions, they encounter numerous facts that conflict with their views. At that time, we change our view of coping with life. In this respect, tourism is a new way of learning. As a new learning method, tourism experience research is a new approach. In this study, the relationship between experience and learning experienced in tourist destinations was analyzed by applying the activity theory. The analysis units applied in the activity theory were set as subjects, goals, communities, roles, methods and rules, outcomes, and relevance to local communities. Based on this, in-depth interviews were conducted with commentators and guides who had a great influence on the tourism experience to analyze the learning process of tourists. As a result of the analysis, the experiences of tourists during the tour were interactive in various forms within the unit as well as the unit of the activity system of the commentator and guide. This interaction induces changes in the tourism experience activity system, enabling tourists to learn. The content is that the value of learning increases as the role of guide and commentator increases, that the social and cultural dimension of tourism experience is included in the learning effect, and the contradictions that arise from interactions within or between activity systems. The fact that they find the solution process themselves, and that tourism activity is not an isolated unit, but exists at the intersection of hierarchies and networks, is affected by the activities and environments of others.

The underground disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel demands a specialized design, distinct from conventional practices, to ensure long-term thermal, mechanical, and hydraulic integrity, preventing the release of radioactive isotopes from high-temperature spent nuclear fuel. SKB has established design criteria for such facilities and executed practical design implementations for Forsmark. Moreover, in response to subsurface uncertainty, SKB has proposed an empirical approach involving monitoring and adaptive design modifications, alongside stepwise development. SKB has further introduced a unique support system, categorizing ground types and behaviors and aligning them with corresponding support types to confirm safety through comparative analyses against existing systems. POSIVA has pursued a comparable approach, developing a support system for Onkalo while accounting for distinct geological characteristics compared to Forsmark. This demonstrates the potential for domestic implementation of spent nuclear fuel disposal facility designs and the establishment of a support system adapted to national attributes.
Analytical probabilistic vulnerability analysis requires extensive computing effort as a result of the randomness in both input motion and response characteristics. In this study, a new methodology whereby a set of vulnerability curves are derived based on the fundamental response quantities of stiffness, strength and ductility is presented. A response database of coefficients describing lognormal vulnerability relationships is constructed by employing aclosed-form solution for a generalized single-degree-of-freedom system. Once the three fundamental quantities of a wide range of structural systems are defined, the vulnerability curves for various limit states can be derived without recourse to further simulation. Examples of application are given and demonstrate the extreme efficiency of the proposed approach in deriving vulnerability relationships.
