  • Multi-term fractional differential equations have been used to simulate fractional-order control system. It has been demonstrated the necessity of the such controllers for the more efficient control of fractional-order dynamical system. In this paper, the multi-term fractional ordinary differential equations are transferred into equivalent a system of equations. The existence and uniqueness of the new system are proved. A fractional order difference approximation is constructed by a decoupled technique and fractional-order numerical techniques. The consistence, convergence and stability of the numerical approximation are proved. Finally, some numerical results are presented to demonstrate that the numerical approximation is a computationally efficient method. The new method can be applied to solve the fractional-order control system.

  • PURPOSES : A finite difference model considering snow melting process on porous asphalt pavement was derived on the basis of heat transfer and mass transfer theories. The derived model can be applied to predict the region where black-ice develops, as well as to predict temperature profile of pavement systems where a de-icing system is installed. In addition, the model can be used to determined the minimum energy required to melt the ice formed on the pavement. METHODS : The snow on the porous asphalt pavement, whose porosity must be considered in thermal analysis, is divided into several layers such as dry snow layer, saturated snow layer, water+pavement surface, pavement surface, and sublayer. The mass balance and heat balance equations are derived to describe conductive, convective, radiative, and latent transfer of heat and mass in each layer. The finite differential method is used to implement the derived equations, boundary conditions, and the testing method to determine the thermal properties are suggested for each layer. RESULTS: The finite differential equations that describe the icing and deicing on pavements are derived, and we have presented them in our work. The framework to develop a temperature-forecasting model is successfully created. CONCLUSIONS : We conclude by successfully creating framework for the finite difference model based on the heat and mass transfer theories. To complete implementation, laboratory tests required to be performed.

  • This paper discusses the economics of local loop architecture focusing on existing technologies, ADSL, HFC, and new one, PLC, and suggests a new modeling approach of access network system and the numerical equations. To modelize access network system and drive the numerical equations, we consider the double star and the tree & branch architecture and made block diagram of each access system. In addition, we introduce the density of subscriber as a variable and the equation of seeking the optimal number of cell in a service area. The economics of local loop architecture is analyzed in two ways, i.e. with and without consideration of the cost of cable and infrastructure. From the numerical analysis, we find that in case of not including the cost of cable and infrastructure, there is no much difference in the cost per one subscriber, while, in case of including it, there is remarkable difference among technologies. Therefore we conclude that the economics of local loop architecture is depend on the density of subscriber and existing network infrastructures.

  • We consider the second-order nonlinear difference equation (1) $$\Delta(a_nh(x_{n+1}){\Delta}x_n)+p_{n+1}f(x_{n+1})=0,\;n{\geq}n_0$$ where ${a_n},\;{p_n}$ are sequences of integers with $a_n\;>\;0,\;\{P_n\}$ is a real sequence without any restriction on its sign. hand fare real-valued functions. We obtain some necessary conditions for (1) existing nonoscillatory solutions and sufficient conditions for (1) being oscillatory.

  • Wind-induced and earthquake-induced excitations on tall structures can be effectively controlled by Tuned Liquid Damper (TLD). This work presents a numerical simulation procedure to study the performance of tuned liquid tank- structure system through ${\sigma}$-transformation based fluid-structure coupled solver. For this, a 'C' based computational code is developed. Structural equations are coupled with fluid equations in order to achieve the transfer of sloshing forces to structure for damping. Structural equations are solved by fourth order Runge-Kutta method while fluid equations are solved using finite difference based sigma transformed algorithm. Code is validated with previously published results. The minimum displacement of structure is observed when the resonance condition of the coupled system is satisfied through proper tuning of TLD. Since real-time excitations are random in nature, the performance study of TLD under random excitation is also carried out in which the Bretschneider spectrum is used to generate the random input wave.

  • In this paper, we present an analysis of dynamic characteristics of an electromagnetic actuator for circuit breakers. It is indispensable to simultaneously analyze magnetic, electric, and mechanical phenomena to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the electromagnetic actuator because these phenomena are closely related to each other in an electromagnetic actuator system. The magnetic equations are computed by using the finite element method (FEM). The electric equations and the mechanical equations, which include the time derivative terms, are calculated by using the time difference method (TDM). The calculated results, which have been obtained by means of the FEM and the TDM, are presented with experimental data.

  • A finite difference method for calculating turbulent flow and surface wave fields around a ship model is evaluated through the comparison with the experimental data of a Series 60 $C_B$=0.6 ship model. The method solves the Reynolds-averaged Navior-Stokes Equations using the non-staggered grid system, the four-stage Runge-Kutta scheme for the temporal integration of governing equations and the Bladwin-Lomax model for the turbulence closure. The free surface waves are captured by solving the equation of the kinematic free-surface condition using the Lax-Wendroff scheme and free-surface conforming grids are generated at each time step so that one of the grid surfaces coincides always with the free surface. The computational results show an overall close agreement with the experimental data and verify that the present method can simulate well the turbulent boundary layers and wakes as well as the free-surface waves.

  • In this paper we study h-stability of the solutions of nonlinear difference system via the notion of $n_{\infty}$-summable similarity between its variational systems. Also, we show that two concepts of h-stability and h-stability in variation for nonlinear difference systems are equivalent. Furthermore, we characterize h-stability for nonlinear difference systems by using Lyapunov functions.

  • Consider the three-dimensional system of difference equations $x_{n+1}=\frac{{\prod_{j=0}^{k}}z_n-3j}{{\prod_{j=1}^{k}}x_n-(3j-1)\;\(a_n+b_n{\prod_{j=0}^{k}}z_n-3j\)}$, $y_{n+1}=\frac{{\prod_{j=0}^{k}}x_n-3j}{{\prod_{j=1}^{k}}y_n-(3j-1)\;\(c_n+d_n{\prod_{j=0}^{k}}x_n-3j\)}$, $z_{n+1}=\frac{{\prod_{j=0}^{k}}y_n-3j}{{\prod_{j=1}^{k}}z_n-(3j-1)\;\(e_n+f_n{\prod_{j=0}^{k}}y_n-3j\)}$, n ∈ ℕ0, where k ∈ ℕ0, the sequences $(a_n)_{n{\in}{\mathbb{N}}_0$, $(b_n)_{n{\in}{\mathbb{N}}_0$, $(c_n)_{n{\in}{\mathbb{N}}_0$, $(d_n)_{n{\in}{\mathbb{N}}_0$, $(e_n)_{n{\in}{\mathbb{N}}_0$, $(f_n)_{n{\in}{\mathbb{N}}_0$ and the initial values x-3k, x-3k+1, …, x0, y-3k, y-3k+1, …, y0, z-3k, z-3k+1, …, z0 are real numbers. In this work, we give explicit formulas for the well defined solutions of the above system. Also, the forbidden set of solution of the system is found. For the constant case, a result on the existence of periodic solutions is provided and the asymptotic behavior of the solutions is investigated in detail.
