The treatment of wounds of the lower extremity caused by diabetes or vascular dysfunction remains a difficult problem for the plastic surgeon. The use of negative pressure in wound healing is a relatively new method to facilitate chronic wound healing by secondary healing. The use of vacuum-assisted closure(VAC) system is purposed to reduce local edema, increase regional blood flow, enhance epithelial migration, preserve a moist wound environment, reduce bacterial colonization, promote granulation tissue formation, and mechanically enhance wound closure. The VAC also can be used as a dressing for anchoring an applied split thickness skin graft. We reviewed the data from 20 consecutive patients with non-healing wound in lower extremity at Dong-A University from March 2002 to December 2004. We used the VAC in 20 patients and compared the results with the control group. In the VAC using group, mean application duration was about 3 weeks and dressing change was done every other day. The follow-up period of patients ranged from 3 months to 30 months with a mean of 17 months. The points of comparison with control group are wound size, granulation tissue proliferation rate, operation method, preoperative time, postoperative healing time, complication, and cost. With those points, we propose to approve the efficiency of the VAC in non-healing wound. As a result, the VAC used in non-healing wound decrease wound size, accelerate granulation tissue formation, do a wound closure with less invasive operation method, make less postoperative complication, can make operation time shorter. Therefore it is cost effect. Our results demonstrate the usefulness of VAC as an adjunct in management of chronic wounds with other extrinsic factors.

This paper presents experimental and numerical studies on the closure ratio of tunnel face to reduce pressure and displacement occurring at tunnel face during tunnel excavation. In experimental study, model tests are carried out according to the closure ratio of tunnel face and tunnel depth. Model test results are analyzed and interpreted by numerical calculation in order to verify results obtained from experimental and numerical studies. It is clearly found that tunnel face stability increases with the increase of the closure ratio of tunnel face. The results also show that tunnel face is stable when the closure ratio of tunnel face is larger than 80%. This research will be very useful to develop the economical tunnel face closing system.
Artificial ground freezing (AGF) is a commonly used geotechnical support technique that can be applied in any soil type and has low environmental impact. Experimental and numerical investigations have been conducted to optimize AGF for application in diverse scenarios. Precise simulation of groundwater flow is crucial to improving the reliability these investigations' results. Previous experimental research has mostly considered horizontal seepage flow, which does not allow accurate calculation of the groundwater flow velocity due to spatial variation of the piezometric head. This study adopted vertical seepage flow-which can maintain a constant cross-sectional area-to eliminate the limitations of using horizontal seepage flow. The closure time is a measure of the time taken for an impermeable layer to begin to form, this being the time for a frozen soil-ice wall to start forming adjacent to the freeze pipes; this is of great importance to applied AGF. This study reports verification of the reliability of our experimental apparatus and measurement system using only water, because temperature data could be measured while freezing was observed visually. Subsequent experimental AFG tests with saturated sandy soil were also performed. From the experimental results, a method of estimating closure time is proposed using the inflection point in the thermal conductivity difference between pore water and pore ice. It is expected that this estimation method will be highly applicable in the field. A further parametric study assessed factors influencing the closure time using a two-dimensional coupled thermo-hydraulic numerical analysis model that can simulate the AGF of saturated sandy soil considering groundwater flow. It shows that the closure time is affected by factors such as hydraulic gradient, unfrozen permeability, particle thermal conductivity, and freezing temperature. Among these factors, changes in the unfrozen permeability and particle thermal conductivity have less effect on the formation of frozen soil-ice walls when the freezing temperature is sufficiently low.

In this paper, we propose an effective real-time visual loop closure detector, VILODE, which makes use of key frames and bag of visual words (BoW) based on SURF feature points. In order to determine whether the camera has re-visited one of the previously visited places, a loop closure detector has to compare an incoming new image with all previous images collected at every visited place. As the camera passes through new places or locations, the amount of images to be compared continues growing. For this reason, it is difficult for a visual loop closure detector to meet both real-time constraint and high detection accuracy. To address the problem, the proposed system adopts an effective key frame selection strategy which selects and compares only distinct meaningful ones from continuously incoming images during navigation, and so it can reduce greatly image comparisons for loop detection. Moreover, in order to improve detection accuracy and efficiency, the system represents each key frame image as a bag of visual words, and maintains indexes for them using DBoW database system. The experiments with TUM benchmark datasets demonstrates high performance of the proposed visual loop closure detector.

A method is presented for evaluating the seismic failure probability of bridge structures which show a nonlinear hysteretic dynamic behavior. Bridge structures are modeled as a bilinear dynamic system with a single degree of freedom. We regarded that the failure of bridges will occur when the displacement response of a deck level firstly crosses the predefined limit state during a duration of strong motion. For the estimation of the first-crossing probability of a nonlinear structural system excited by earthquake motion, we computed the average frequency of crossings of the limit state. We presented the non-Gaussian closure method for the approximation of the joint probability density function of response and its derivative, which is required for the estimation of the average frequency of crossings. The failure probabilities are estimated according to the various artificial earthquake acceleration sets representing specific seismic characteristics. For the verification of the accuracy and efficiency of presented method, we compared the estimated failure probabilities with the results evaluated from previous methods and the exact values estimated with the crude Monte-Carlo simulation method.
In TSPA of long-term post closure radiological safety on permanent disposal of HLW in Korea, appropriate management of input and output data through QA is necessary. The robust QA system is developed using the T2R3 principles applicable for five major steps in R&D's. The proposed system is implemented in the web-based system so that all participants in TSPA are able to access the system. In addition, the internet based input database for TSPA is developed. Currently data from literature surveys, domestic laboratory and field experiments as well as expert elicitation are applied for TSPA.
A simple graph G is said to be fractional n-factor-critical if after deleting any n vertices the remaining subgraph still has a fractional perfect matching. For fractional n-factor-criticality, in this paper, one necessary and sufficient condition, and three sufficient conditions related to maximum matching, complete closure are given.
The main objectives of this study are to examine the random response of a vibration absorber system with autoparametric coupling in the neighborhood of internal resonance by Gaussian closure and to compare the results with those obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. The numerical simulation is found to support the main features of the nonlinear modal interaction in the neighborhood of internal resonance conditions. While the Gaussian closure exhibits regions of multiple solutions in the neighborhood of internal resonance, the numerical simulation gives only one solution depending on the assigned initial conditions. The on-off intermittency phenomena of the cantilever mode is observed in the Monte Carlo simulation over a small range of parameter.

Reduction of fresh water consumption and effluent discharge provide diverse advantages in raw materials and energy savings. Papermaking system closure, however, reduces the efficiency of additives, decreases retention and dewatering, and causes many other Problems in papermaking. Accumulation of inorganic and organic substances in the process white water is the prime cause of these problems. Understanding of the accumulation phenomena of the detrimental substances in the papermaking process is of great importance for papermaking system closure. In this study a process simulation method was employed to analyze the accumulation phenomena of anionic starch in the process white water as the reuse rate of dry broke and pick up of surface sizing agent is increased. Steady state simulation studies were carried out based on the model developed in previous study. The variation of dissolved starch concentration in each process unit was monitored as a function of reuse rate of dry broke and surface sizing agent pick up rate. The result showed that dissolved starch concentration Increased as reuse rate of dry broke and surface sizing agent pick up rate was increased.

In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a transient queueing approximation when it is applied to modeling computer communication networks. An operational computer network that uses the ISO IS-IS(Intermediate System-Intermediate System) routing protocol is modeled as a Jackson network. The primary goal of the approximation pursued in the study was to provide transient queue statistics comparable in accuracy to the results from conventional Monte Carlo simulations. A closure approximation of the M/M/1 queueing system was extended to the general Jackson network in order to obtain transient queue statistics. The performance of the approximation was compared to a discrete event simulation under nonstationary conditions. The transient results from the two simulations are compared on the basis of queue size and computer execution time. Under nonstationary conditions, the approximations for the mean and variance of the number of packets in the queue erer fairly close to the simulation values. The approximation offered substantial speed improvements over the discrete event simulation. The closure approximation provided a good alternative Monte Carlo simulation of the computer networks.
