  • Recently it is increased by degrees to construct complex or large lattice type structures such as bridges, towers, cranes, and structures that can be used for space technology. In general, in order to analyze, these structures we have used the finite element method(FEM). In this method, however, it is necessary to use a large amount of computer memory and computation time because the FEM requires many degrees of freedom for solving dynamic problems for these structures. For overcoming this problem, the authors have developed the transfer dynamic stiffness coefficient method(TDSCM). This method is based on the concepts of the transfer and the synthesis of the dynamic stiffness coefficient which is related to force and displacement vector at each node. In this paper, the authors formulate vibration analysis algorithm for a complex and large lattice type structure using the transfer of the dynamic stiffness coefficient. And the validity of TDSCM demonstrated through numerical computational and experimental results.

  • Various approaches to process active sonar signals are under study, but there are many problems to be considered. The sonar signals are distorted by the underwater environment, and the spatio-temporal and spectral characteristics of active sonar signals change in accordance with the aspect of the target even though they come from the same one. And it has difficulties in collecting actual underwater data. In this paper, we synthesized active target echoes based on ray tracing algorithm using target model having 3-dimensional highlight distribution. Then, Fractional Fourier transform was applied to synthesized target echoes to extract feature vector. Recognition experiment was performed using probabilistic neural network classifier.

  • This paper proposes a filter structure suitable for speech synthesis applications. We first derive the lossy pole-zero model by employing the wave digital filter(WDF) adaptor formula, and by converting the fixed termination value - 1 into a loss factor $\mu$c$\in$(-1, 1). Then we discuss how to determine the reflection We employ the Durbin's method in estimating the numerator polynomial of the lossy pole-zero transfer function from the given speech sound, and then apply the step-down algorithm on the numerator to extract the reflection coefficients of the closed-termination tract. For determining the reflection coefficients of the other parts we employ a pre-calculated pole-estimator polynomial.

  • In this paper, we design a RS(23,17) decoder for MB-OFDM(Multiband-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system, in which Modified Euclidean(ME) algorithm is adopted for key equation solver block. The proposed decoder has been optimized for MB-OFDM system so that it has less latency and hardware complexity. Additionally, we have implemented the proposed decoder using Verilog HDL and synthesized with Samsung 65nm library. From synthesis results, it can operate at clock frequency of 250MHz, and gate count is 20,710.

  • Texture is extensively studied in a variety of image processing applications such as image segmentation and classification because it is an important property to perceive regions and surfaces. This paper focused on the analysis and synthesis of textured single and multiband images using Markov Random Field model considering the existent spatial correlation. Especially, for multiband images, the cross-channel correlation existing between bands as well as the spatial correlation within band should be considered in the model. Although a local interaction is assumed between the specified neighboring pixels in MRF models, during the maximization process, short-term correlations among neighboring pixels develop into long-term correlations. This result in exhibiting phase transition. In this research, the role of temperature to obtain the most probable state during the sampling procedure in discrete Markov Random Fields and the stopping rule were also studied.

  • Electric Power Steering (EPS) mechanism has become widely equipped in passenger vehicle due to the environmental consciousness and higher fuel efficiency. This paper describes the development of co-simulation technique and simulation integration technique of EPS control system with dynamic vehicle model. A full vehicle model interacted with EPS control algorithm is concurrently simulated on a single bump road condition. Dynamic responses of vehicle chassis and steering system resulting from road surface impact are evaluated and compared with proving ground experimental data. The comparisons will show reasonable agreement on tie-rod load. rack displacement, handle-wheel torque and tire center acceleration. This developed simulation capability can be used for EPS performance evaluation and calibration as well as for vehicle handling performance integration and synthesis.

  • This study uses the algorithm which estimates the magnetic flux using different models in the low speed driving area and the high speed driving area by the voltage-current model synthesis magnetic flux Estimator and, from this result, estimates the magnetic flux angle to achieve the stable speed control through all the areas from the low speed to the high speed drive. In particular, the current change and the magnetic flux change under variable load were estimated in real time in the low speed area and this made the control characteristic improved in the low speed area. According to this, even under variable load, the more stable simulation and experiment could have been completed using PI current controller and PI flux controller in all the areas. As a result, the outstanding speed control characteristic has been achieved.

  • Pre-processing is one of image processing techniques to enhance image quality or appropriately convert a given image into another form for a specific purpose. An 8 bit depth map obtained by a depth camera usually contains a lot of noisy components caused by the characteristics of depth camera and edges are also more distorted by the quality of a source object and illumination condition comparing with edges in RGB texture image. To reduce this distortion, we use noise removing filters, but they are only able to reduce noise components, so that distorted edges of depth map can not be properly recovered. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can reduce noise components and also enhance the quality of edges of depth map by using edges in RGB texture. Consequently, we can reduce errors in multi-view stereo image synthesis process.

  • In this paper, we propose an advanced hardware architecture for the fast inter prediction engine of the video coding standard MPEG-4 AVC. We describe the algorithm and derive the hardware architecture emphasizing and real time operation of the quarter_pel based motion estimation. The fast inter prediction engine is composed of block segmentation, motion estimation, motion compensation, and the fast quarter_pel calculator. The proposed architecture has been verified by ARM-interfaced emulation board using Excalibur & Virtex2 FPGA, and also by synthesis on Samsung 0.18 um CMOS technology. The synthesis result shows that the proposed hardware can operate at 62.5MHz. In this case, it can process about 88 QCIF video frames per second. The hardware is being used as a core module when implementing a complete MPEG-4 AVC video encoder chip for real-time multimedia application.

  • High-lift devices have a major influence on takeoff, landing and stall performance of an aircraft. Therefore, a slotted flap design optimization process is proposed in this paper to obtain the most effective flap configuration from supported 2D flap configuration. Flap deflection, Gap and Overlap are considered as main contributors to flap lift increment. ANSYS Fluent 13.0.0$^{(R)}$ is used as aerodynamic analysis software that provides accurate solution at given flight conditions. Optimum configuration is obtained by Sequential Quadratic Programing (SQP) algorithm. Performance of the aircraft with optimized flap is estimated using Aircraft Design Synthesis Program (ADSP), the in-house performance analysis code. Obtained parameters such as takeoff, landing distance and stall speed met KAS-VLA airworthiness requirements.
