Community design education has covered the worldview dimension of the collaborative courses for sustainability draws on the architectural expertise developed in a network of community projects and therefore case studies of design education by the collaborative project-based learning in terms of participants, students, teachers and architects, such as 'Learning By Design' for the K-12 comprehensive program in Massachusetts addresses how a local society can make its community sustainable by both design and education. To understand that community design and education can provide professional development in all levels of skills and knowledge across disciplines and opportunities for collaborative learning and problem-solving, this research consists of case studies of the community design education including social systems that assist in organizing the local educational program as well as promoting the programs with public awareness of the community. It covers the UNESCO-UIA agenda of the community design and education that is to enhance the physical environment relating to human interaction by developing innovative alternatives of existing community and contributing voluntarily to neighborhoods through design. As the community design collaborative of design professionals and users is a structural approach to assess design quality, the cases address how to set up the architectural program in order to share pro bono design service and provide high-quality design resources available for sustainable environment.

In the 21st century numerous universities continue to have an interest in building a more sustainable campus. The concept related to sustainable development and sustainability is applied to new master plan of university or university building planning. The field of sustainable development can be conceptually broken into three constituent parts: environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and social sustainability. The realization of sustainable development will become when considered eco-friendly life of users, not only environmentally friendly technologies. This study aims to research the method of sustainable access to university building planning in Europe and Canada. First, certification and standards will focused on acquisition Green Building Certification. Then we look at trends of sustainability based on users and community through the system of prior consultation between university and users. For the desirable development of the sustainable campus, the sustainable planning of campus should be investigated with campus community, members and local residents considering the generation, the preservation, the maintenance of existing building.

Sustainable development has been praised as important new planning paradigm. The concept is being increasingly used in planning processes to address environmental, social and economic sustainable development. The social sustainability is important as community in modern life. The purpose of this study is to find out the community elements of sustainable housing to make it better life in residential environment. The Methods are content analysis and experts survey. We execute the literature for method to find the importance and indicator of social sustainability. We execute the experts survey to find the adequacy of the classification criteria, the adequacy of the indicators and the adequacy of the classification system. The findings of this study are as following; the social sustainability is important to support the sustainable housing planning. The indicator of the social sustainability is deduced; 'Locality' are deduced 'Native support', 'History and culture' and 'Reflected the local characteristics'. 'Communality' are deduced 'Citizen participation', 'Social integration', 'Community space and facilities' and 'community activities and programs'. 'Organic' are deduced 'Employment', 'Self-sufficiency', 'Safety and convenience', 'Infrastructure and service' and 'Housing condition'.

This study is to analyze the local community-connected Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) programs that 17 clubs' students and teachers developed and implemented for their ESD club activities in elementary and middle schools. For this study, ESD elements in the programs are analyzed and the way of connection between the local communities' organizations and the ESD clubs is inquired. The process of ESD club activities is also analyzed and the change of students after the local community-connected ESD club activities is examined. Finally, the way of dissemination to local communities after ESD club activities is inquired. This study is to contribute to the practice of the local community-connected ESD in a way that develops core competencies in elementary and middle school students that will allow them to build a sustainable future in local communities.

The purpose of this study is to identify the planning features of apartments that are people-friendly, nature-friendly and ones that improve the quality of the apartments through sustainable design characteristics found in the apartment community space. This study found the sustainable design characteristics through the case of 8 environment-friendly apartment in the Seoul-Gyeunggi area. Sustainable design was categorized into three areas a) social sustainability b) economic sustainability c) ecological sustainability. The major findings are summarized as follows: First, socially sustainable design which included plans for various types of squares, spaces for pedestrians showed high application of universal design plans. While, plans to maximize open spaces that facilitate the social exchanges among residents showed low application. Second, economically sustainable design showed high application in terms of access to public transportation and bicycle storage facilities. However, planning factors such as alternative energy facilities, recyclable materials, reuse of rainwaterand heavy water showed low application. Third, environmentally sustainable design included high application of promenades, artificially created green space and various types of water space. On the other hand, nature study centers, biotope and environment friendly parking space showed low application.

In development of housing estates, 'Sustainable development' is indispensable method for the quality in our living environment, and minimize any environment problems which treat our life. And the community elements of sustainable housing complex to make it better life in housing complex. The purpose of study is to suggest the evaluation factors sustainability and community for the planning of housing complex. Within this purpose, this study firstly deducing elements of sustainabilty and community. In the study, literature research method are used for data collection. The results of this study are showed as follows: First, the elements of sustainability are composed of social, economic and environment aspects. Second, the elements of community are composed of hardware, software, humanware aspects.

The purpose of this study was to develop an education for sustainable development(ESD) program using community resources in Paju and to investigate the influences on ESD competencies of 6th graders. The community resources used were Unjeong lake park, environmental circulation center, environmental management center, currency museum, butterfly museum, experience center for peaceful unification, Yulgok arboretum, and Jangsan observatory. The newly developed program was related to creative-experience activity and composed of 15 sessions for 6th-grade class in elementary school, including all of the environmental, economic, and social aspects of ESD. Two classes of the 6th grade were divided into the experimental group and the control group. The results to examine the effects of the program were as follows. First, it was proven that ESD program using community resources did not help improving the perception and function competencies of learners except for the thinking abilities. Second, it contributed to the improvement of learners' attitude competencies, especially in self-reflective attitude and other-oriented attitude. Also, according to in-depth interview, the students were constantly developing their values for sustainable development, reflecting their thoughts and behaviors in a reflective way and improving their attitude toward life.

The purpose of this study is to develop community design evaluation factors for sustainable urban regeneration and to suggest considerations for sustainable community design by analyzing excellent community design cases. Through literature review, previous studies on the concept and core items of sustainable urban regeneration, and the concept and components of community design were considered. In addition, evaluation indicators for sustainable community design were developed in the socio-economic, physical, environmental, historical and cultural dimensions through the analysis of the linkage with the evaluation factors of community design through the analysis of previous studies. The evaluation index consists of 3 evaluation items and 9 items including social performance and participation at the social level, economic feasibility at the economic level, environmental characteristics at the physical and environmental level, accessibility, contextuality, locality at the historical and cultural level, identity, and artistry. Includes dog evaluation factors. Reliability and effectiveness are secured through the developed evaluation index and detailed description and expert verification. Exploratory factor analysis and expert interviews were conducted through the survey, and as a result of the analysis, the stability and Cronbach'α coefficients were verified, and the validity of the community design evaluation index considering sustainable urban regeneration was recognized through expert interview. The results of this study are considered meaningful in that they can provide basic data for the improvement of community design for sustainable urban regeneration in the future.

This study analyzed the demand for a community-based tourism site using a poisson model, a negative binominal model, a truncated poisson model and a truncated negative binominal model as count data models. For these reasons, questionnaire surveys were conducted into 5 community-based tourism sites in Chuncheon city with 406 tourists, and was analyzed using the STATA program. The fitness levels of four models were significant(p=0.0000) using a likelihood ratio test. The study results suggest that the demand of community-based tourism sites for visiting tourists was influenced by a pre-visiting experience, recognition of sustainable tourism, visitation of downtown, purchase of souvenir or farm produce, conversation with regional residents, regional harmony, preservation of natural resources and sex within the poisson and truncated poisson models. However, the variables of visitation of downtown, preservation of natural resources and sex were not significant within the negative binominal model and the visitation of downtown and preservation of natural resources were not significant within the truncated negative binominal model. The results of the visiting demand of community-based tourism sites can provide information for sustainable regional development strategies.

The Purpose of this study was to enhancing sustainable participation of community gardeners by comparing general apartment complex with public lease apartment complex by drawing indices for quantitative research. This research carried out interviews and statistical research with 319. The results revealed statistically difference between 2 types of apartment, and satisfactions and intention of continuous participation is also different from each sustainable in participating in community garden are also different from each type. Overall, however, participation of female citizens, public assistance, area of plot, and effectiveness of exchange can enhance participants' continuous participation.
