  • We have investigated influencing factors on viability of Bletilla striata protoplasts electroporated in the presence of various electrical conditions. Cultures of embryogenic callus and embryogenic cell suspension were established with immature seeds of Bletilla striata. Viabilty of electroporated protoplasts was decreased according to the increaseing of electroporation voltage and capacitance. An optimal condition of electroporation for viable protoplasts was in HBM buffer at $4^{\circ}C$.

  • The polyurethane prepolymers, which were previously synthesized from 2,4-toluene disocyanate(2,4-TDI) and polypropylene glycol(PPG), were chain extended by ethylene diamine or hydroxyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane(HTPMS) having hydroxy group at both ends of the chain, giving polyurethaneurea(PU) and polyurethane containing HTPMS segment(SiPU), respectively. In thermal gravimetric analysis, PU was almost completely degraded at $500^{circ}$ but SiPU showed about 11% residue at the same temperature. Suspension of SiPU and pigment showed more good compatibility than that of PU and pigment. The crocking fastness, migration fastness and solvent wicking were enhanced to 4.5 grades, 4 grades and 4 grades, respectively.

  • This paper studies the vibration characteristics of a vehicle seat on several driving conditions. Modal test for a vehicle seat is conducted for the three different boundary conditions: on the rigid jig, BIW and the full vehicle. In driving on various road conditions and speeds, vibration level is measured at several locations including seat mounting and seat-back. The vibration pattern for each driving condition is found where the suspension mode and the 1st bending and torsion modes of the seat make the major contribution on it.

  • In this report, some practical problems that are concerned with the infected barley were examined. Most of the toxic substance is present in the bran. It was almost impossible to remove the toxic substance with water or methanol completly, however, we found it is effectively eliminated by soaking the whole grain with 2%, calcium hydroxide suspension for 24 hours. As a detoxifying agent, kieselguhr was very effective; the grain mixed with little amounts (0.4-0.5%) of kieselguhr may be used as an animal feed.

  • Experiments were carried out to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of Caragana chamlagu $L_{AMARCK}$ roots, which was known to be effective as antineuralgic, antirheumatic and antiarthritic, etc. in the folk cures of this country. The ether extract of the root has shown significant effects against the rat paw edema induced by 1% carrageenin and its potency was comparable with acetylsalicylic acid, a anti-inflammatory drug, when given orally in 5% acacia gum suspension. The ethanol and hexane extracts, on the other hand, stimulated the formation of rat paw edema under the same experimentation.

  • Particle suspension is frequently observed in many natural flows such as in the atmosphere and the ocean as well as in various engineering flows. Recently, airborne micro or nano-scale particles in atmosphere attract much attention from environmental society since small particle cause serious environmental problems in the industrialized areas. Also, the characteristics of such heavy particles' behavior is quite different from its fluid particles because the inertia force and buoyance force acting on the heavy particles are different than those acting on fluid particles. Therefore, our studies is to investigate the characteristics of the behavior of heavy particles considering the inertia effect with or without gravity effect, but do not consider modification of turbulence by the particles, that is one-way interaction. We carried out direct numerical simulation of isotropic turbulence with particles under the Stokes drag assumption for a spherical particle. These results can be used in the development of a stochastic model for predicting particle's behavior.

  • The paper presents results of studies concerning wind-induced aeolian vibration and fatigue of a 110 kV covered conductor overhead line. Self-damping measurement techniques are discussed: power method is found to be the most reliable technique. A method for compensating tension variations during the self-damping test is presented. Generally used empirical self-damping power models are enhanced and the different models are compared with each other. The Energy Balance Analysis (EBR) is used to calculate the aeolian vibration amplitudes, which thereafter are converted to bending stress for the calculation of conductor lifetime estimate. The results of EBA are compared with field measurements, Results indicate that adequate lifetime estimates are produced by EBA as well as field measurements. Generally the EBA gives more conservative lifetime expectancy. This is believed to result from the additional damping existing in true suspension structures not taken into account by EBA. Finally, the correctness of the line design is verified using Cigre's safe design tension approach.

  • Vibration isolation of mechanical systems, in general, is achieved through passive or active vibration isolators. Passive vibration isolator has an inherenrt performance limitation. Whereas, active vibration isolator provides significantly superior vibration-isolation performance at the cost of energy sources and sensors. Recently, in many cases, such as suspension system, precision machinery ... etc, active isolation system outweighs its limitation. Therefore, many studies, researches, and applications are carried out in this field. In this study, vibration-isolation characteristics of an active vibration control system using electromagnetic force actuator are investigated. Several control algorithms including optimal, feedforward are used for active vibration isolation. From the experimental results of each algorithm, effective control algorithms for this active vibration-isolation system are proposed.

  • The rolling-stocks used in conventional line have suffered wheel problems due to lack of adaptability with track. These brought out severe wheel flange wear, these have caused unstable ride characteristics of rolling-stock. Especially, Wheel flange wear is severely influenced by wheel profile but lateral suspension characteristics. This study was started to induce wheel profile suitable for domestic railway environment. Thus, we analyzed the wear characteristics of wheel profiles that are being applied to railway rolling-stock in KNR. To analyze wheel wear characteristics, we have conducted experiment studies for passenger rolling-stock and obtained useful datum.

  • Derailment is likely to have a direct connection with human life and must be eliminated. A traveling safety evaluation method based mainly on derailment coefficient has already established. But this method is very difficult because Derailment is caused by multiple factors. To evaluate the derailment factor of running train that runs on the curved track, we make use of mechanism that wheel loads and lateral forces were affected by track and rolling stock parameter. In this paper, deal with a search on the parameter and derailment factor. According to results of computer simulation value of Q/P, running safety is connected with operation velocity, curve radius, cant, track irregularity, suspension stiffness and static wheel load ratio, etc.
