  • This study is to develop an optimal surveillance units assignment model in order to obtain the maximized surveillance efficiency with the limited surveillance units. There are many mathematical models which deal with problems to assign weapons such as aircrafts, missiles and guns to targets. These models minimize the lost required to attack, the threat forecast from the enemy, or both of them. However, a problem of the efficient assignment of surveillance units is not studied yet, nevertbless it is important in the battlefield surveillance system. This paper is concerned with the development of the optimal surveillance units assignment model using integer programming. An optimal integer solution of the model can be obtained by using linear programming and branch and bound method.

  • Since Daegu subway station fire killed 192 citizens in 2003, the demands about safety MRT operation has been increased. Also, the studies and patents for MRT Surveillance are increasing. The related law and system are improving, too. This study suggests the solution for digital surveillance system that has the functions for restricted zone surveillance, the harmful gas and fire surveillance and abnormal behavior surveillance by comparing and analyzing the surveillance systems of advanced countries (United states, Hongkong, Japan etc). Then, we suggest UMS(Unified Message Service) system and image storing system for effective report and management.

  • The surveillance system to prevent crime and accidents in advance has become a necessity, not an option in real life. Not only public institutions but also individuals are installing surveillance cameras to protect their property and privacy. However, since the installed surveillance camera cannot be monitored for 24 hours, the focus is on the technology that tracks the video after an accident occurs rather than prevention. In this paper, we propose a system model that monitors abnormal behaviors that may cause crimes through real-time video, and when a specific behavior occurs, the surveillance system automatically detects it and responds immediately through an alarm. We are a model that analyzes real-time images from surveillance cameras and uses I3D models from analysis servers to analyze abnormal behavior and deliver notifications to web servers and then to clients. If the system is implemented with the proposed model, immediate response can be expected when a crime occurs.

  • MRI has become important for the detection of prostate cancer. MRI-guided biopsy is superior to conventional systematic biopsy in patients suspected with prostate cancer. MRI is also increasingly used for monitoring patients with low-risk prostate cancer during active surveillance. It improves patient selection for active surveillance at diagnosis, although its role during follow-up is unclear. We aim to review existing evidence and propose a practical approach for incorporating MRI into active surveillance protocols.

  • The syndromic surveillance system is designed to identify illness clusters before diagnoses are confirmed and reported to public health agencies, to provide rapid public health response, and thereby to reduce morbidity and mortality. Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) has implemented the emergency department-based syndromic surveillance system. To design upgraded and enhanced functions of the current syndromic surveillance system in KCDC for the early warning of adverse disease events, we surveyed many papers. This paper describes the operation status of syndromic surveillance system in other countries and the improvement of the syndromic surveillance system in KCDC.

  • In this paper, we propose a boundary input method for video surveillance systems. Since intrusion of a moving object is decided by comparition of its position and the surveillance boundary, the boundary input method is a basic function in video surveillance. Previous methods are difficult to adapt to the change of surveillance environments such as the size of surveillance area, the number of cameras, and the position of cameras because those build up the surveillance boundary using the captured image in the center of each camera. In our approach, the whole surveillance boundary is once defined in the form of polygon based on the satellite map and transformed into each camera environment. Its characteristics is that the boundary input is independent from the surveillance environment. Given the position of a moving object, the time complexity of its intrusion detection shows O(n), where n is the number of polygon vertices. To verify our method, we implemented a 3D simulation and assured that the input boundary can be reused in each camera without any redefinition.

  • As CCTVs are widely utilized in diverse fields, many researchers have continuously studied to improve the surveillance performances of a CCTV system. However, an quantitative evaluation approach about the surveillance performance has rarely been researched. Therefore, we set up the research for suggesting a quantitative evaluation approach to determine the effectiveness of CCTV coverages. We firstly defined the surveillance resolution as that varies according to object's positions and orientations. Based on the definition, we computed surveillance resolution values at all three-dimensional positions with the orientations of interests in the specified space. By comparing these values to the required reasonable resolution, we determined the surveillance performance index indicating how well a CCTV system monitor a target space for specific surveillance objectives. This proposed approach evaluates the surveillance performance of a CCTV system quantitatively, so as examines the CCTV system design before its installation based on precise 3D spatial analysis.

  • Avian influenza viruses (AIV) have been isolated from a wide range of domestic and wild birds. Wild birds, predominantly ducks, geese and gulls form the reservoir of AIV in nature. The viruses in wild bird populations are a potential source of widespread infections in poultry. Active surveillance for AIV infection provides information regarding AIV distribution, and global AIV surveillance can play a key role in the early recognition of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). Since 2003 in Korea, there have been four H5N1 HPAI outbreaks caused by clade 2.5, 2.2 and 2.3.2. Therefore, improvement of AIV surveillance strategy is required to detect HPAI viruses effectively. This article deals with the major events establishing the role of wild birds in the natural history of influenza in Korea. We highlighted the need for continuous surveillance in wild birds and characterization of these viruses to understand AIV epidemiology and host ecology in Korea.

  • The demand for a real-time image surveillance system using network camera server is increasing as the network infra has been grown and digital video compression techniques have been developed. The image surveillance system using network camera server has several merits compared to existing real-time image surveillance system using CCTV. It would be more convenient if wireless realtime image transmission were possible. In this paper, a bluetooth module is designed and implemented for a real-time image surveillance system to send and receive informations wirelessly. It may simplify the system development procedures and increase the productivity by low power consumption, low cost, and simple wireless installation. A scatter-net formation is proposed using dynamic and distributed algorithm so that the network connection is reliable.
