Anodizing is a technology to generate thicker and high-quality films than natural oxide films by treating metals via electrochemical methods. Electrochemical manufacturing method of nano structure is an efficient technology in terms of cost reduction, high productivity and complicated shapes, which receives the spotlight in diverse areas. Especially, artificial films generated by anodizing technology possess excellent mechanical characteristics including hardness and wear resistance. It is also easy to modify thickness and adjust shape of those artificial films so that they are mainly used in sensors, filters, optical films and electrolytic condensers. In this study, experiment was performed to observe the effect of current density on porous film formation in two-step anodizing for Al alloy. Anodizing process was performed with 10 vol.% sulfuric acid electrolyte while the temperature was maintained at $10^{\circ}C$ using a double beaker. and $10{\sim}30mA/cm^2$ was applied for 40 minutes using a galvanostatic method. As a result, both pore diameters and distances between pores tended to increase as the local temperature and electrolysis activity increased due to the increase in applied current density.

The ultrasonic phased arrays are used for treating tumors in the human body by the focus control of the acoustic pressure at the desired position. The magnitude and phase of the surface acoustic pressure in each ultrasonic transducer is controlled by the magnitude and phase of the applied voltage to it. In this paper, the relationship between the applied voltage and the surface acoustic pressure of the ultrasound transducer is modelled, and the desired voltage is realized by PWM technique. The validity of the proposed method is verified by computer simulation of the focus control of a ultrasonic phased array composed of 61 ultrasonic transducers.

Carbon nanomaterials (CNMs), particularly carbon nanotube and graphene-based materials, are rapidly emerging as one of the most effective adsorbents for wastewater treatment. CNMs hold great potential as new generation adsorbents due to their high surface to volume ratio, as well as extraordinary chemical, mechanical and thermal stabilities. However, implementation of pristine CNMs in real world applications are still hindered due to their poor solubility in most solvents. Hence, surface modification of CNMs is essential for wastewater treatment application in order to improve its solubility, chemical stability, fouling resistance and efficiency. Numerous studies have reported the applications of functionalized CNMs as very promising adsorbents for treating organic and inorganic wastewater pollutants. In this paper, the removal of organic dye and phenol contaminants from wastewater using various type of functionalized CNMs are highlighted and summarized. Challenges and future opportunities for application of these CNMs as adsorbents in sustainable wastewater treatment are also addressed in this paper.
BACKGROUND: Generally, water plants may play an important role in nutrients(N, P) removal in constructed wetlands(CWs). Previous studies considered nutrients uptake by water plants in various CWs for treating point source pollution. On the other hand, few studies considered nutrients uptake by water plants in free water surface(FWS) CWs for treating non-point source pollution. METHODS AND RESULTS: To investigate characteristics of nutrient uptake by water plants in FWS CWs, dry weights, nutrients content and nutrients uptake by water plants were investigated from April, 2008 to October, 2008. Dominance plants were Phragmites japonica STEUD (PHRJA), Nymphaea tetragona ANGUSTA(NTMTE), Typha orientalis PRESL(TYHOR), Phragmites communis TRINIUS(PHRCO) and Zizanis latifolia TURCZ(ZIZLA) in FWS CWs. The dry weights of water plants in August were higher in the order of TYHOR(54.27 g/plant) > PHRJA(44.30 g/plant) ${\geqq}$ PHRCO(39.60 g/plant) ${\geqq}$ ZIZLA(37.80 g/plant) ${\fallingdotseq}$ NTMTE(36.75 g/plant). The T-N and T-P contents by water plants were not significantly differences regardless of cultivation period. The maximum amount of T-N uptake by water plants in August were 773 mg/plant for PHRJA, 625 mg/plant for NTMTE, 1206 mg/plant for TYHOR, 754 mg/plant for PHRCO and 768 mg/plant for ZIZLA. The maximum amounts of T-P uptake by PHRJA, NTMTE, TYHOR, PHRCO and ZIZLA were 397, 177, 411, 261 and 229 mg/plant in August, respectively. CONCLUSION(s): The results of this study suggest that optimum water plant was Typha orientalis PRESL in free water surface constructed wetlands.
In this study, a QCM biosensor was made to detect Edwardsiella tarda (E. tarda) using a specific antibody. A 9 MHz AT-cut piezoelectric wafer layered with two gold electrodes of 5mm diameter had a reproducibility of 0.1 Hz in frequency response and was used as the transducer of the QCM biosensor. Self assembled layer (SAM) was conformed on a quartz crystal by treating with 3-mer-captopropionic acid (MPA) and activated with N-ethyl-N'-(3-dimethyl-aminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS). The resulting NHS group was further converted to hydrazide by the reaction with hydrazine. Aldehyde group was introduced into the carbohydrate moiety of anti-E. tarda antibody by the reaction with periodic acid and was used to immobilise the antibody through the reaction with hydrazide group on the electrode surface. A baseline was established in the presence of phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and a resonant frequency (F1) was measured. Sample was added to the sensor surface and second resonant frequency (F2) was measured after unbound substances were washed out with PBS several times. Finally, the frequency shift (ΔF) representing the mass change was calculated by subtracting F2 from F1. After adding the oxidized anti-E. tarda antibody to the electrode surface containing hydrazide group, frequency shift of 288.811.4 Hz (mean S.E) was observed, thus proving that considerable amount of antibody was immobilized. In the immunoassay test, the frequency shift of 1877.75 Hz, 580.67 Hz, 221.39 Hz, 7.671.83 Hz (mean S.E) were observed at doses of 1000, 500, 100, 50 g of bacterial cells, respectively. It was also demonstrated that the prepared sensor chip was stable enough to withstand repeated surface regeneration with 0.2 M Tris-glycine and 1 % DMSO, pH 2.3 more than ten times.
In this study, Al5052/CFRP composites were fabricated for an automobile component by compression molding process inside a U-channel mold. Al5052 sheet were treated by sand blasting with two different particle sizes. Accordingly, surface roughness (Ra) values of $4.25{\mu}m$ and $1.85{\mu}m$ were obtained for the treated Al5052 sheets. The effect of surface roughness of Al5052 sheets on the adhesion and mechanical properties of Al5052/CFRP composites have been evaluated. Shear lap test and 3-point bending test were conducted. Results showed that the shear load for the composite fabricated by using the treated Al5052 sheets with Ra value of $1.85{\mu}m$ and $4.25{\mu}m$ were 3 and 5 times higher than Ra value of $0.73{\mu}m$ of the composite fabricated by using the untreated sheet. The bending stress of 200MPa was obtained for the composite fabricated with untreated Al5052 sheets. The bending stress increased to 400MPa when the composite fabricated from treated sheets. However, the bending stress was not influenced by treating condition through sand blasting.

In this study, we investigated optimum conditions for the introduction of a lot of free radical polymerizable methacrylate groups on the multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) surface. Carboxyl groups were introduced first on MWCNT surfaces by treating with a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid with ultrasonic bath for 2 hours, and oxidized MWCNTs were reacted further with thionyl chloride followed by triethylenetetramine (TETA) to introduce amino groups on the oxidized MWCNT surface, to make MWCNT-$NH_2$. To introduce free radical polymerizable methacrylate groups on the MWCNT-$NH_2$, MWCNT-$NH_2$ was reacted with 3-(acryloyloxy)-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (AHM) by Michael addition reaction. We investigated progress of modification reactions for MWCNT by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and elemental analysis (EA). We found maximum degree of Michael addition reactions between AHM and TETA grafted on MWCNT-$NH_2$ for 10:1 mol ratio and 8 hour reaction time in our reaction conditions.

We propose a practical method for increasing formability of a sheet metal plate using laser heat treatment (LHT) and cladding process. In this work, two kinds of process such as laser-induced heat treatment and cladding were utilized to evaluate the effect on formability of SUS316 sheets with different thickness of 1 and 3 mm. By using a vertically line-patterned tensile specimen that was LHTed or cladded on its surface, the process parameters of each surface treating method were studied and optimized. Through the basic test, we knew that the laser power of 900 W and scanning speed of 500 mm/min was the best condition for increase of formability. As the treatment results, ultimate tensile strength and elongation were increased as approximately 2.1 and 7.0%, respectively. To verify the usefulness of this work in industrial cases, we conducted a bulging test using with and without LHTed SUS316 sheet metal blanks. The results show that the bulging height of LHTed sheet was increased by 73% compared to that of the original one.

A potential-based panel method is presented for the analysis of a partially or supercavitating two-dimensional hydrofoil at a finite submergence beneath a free surface, treating without approximation the effects of the finite Froude number and the hydrostatic pressure. Free surface sources and normal dipoles are distributed on the foil and cavity surfaces, their strength being determined by satisfying the kinematic and dynamic boundary conditions on the foil-cavity boundary. The cavity surface is determined iteratively as a part of the solution. Numerical results show that the wave profile is altered significantly due to the presence of the cavity. The buoyancy effect due to the hydrostatic pressure, which has usually been neglected in most of the cavitating flow analysis, is found playing an important role, especially for the supercavitating hydrofoil; the gravity field increases the cavity size in shallow submergence, but decreases it when deeply submerged, while the lift reduces at all submergence depth.
In this study we report a new method for the synthesis of a silica monolithic column bed with bimodal pores (throughpores and mesopores). The template induced synthesis method was used to direct bimodal pores simultaneously instead of the usual post base-treating method. Block polymer Pluronic F127 was chosen as a dual-function template to form hierarchically porous silica monolith with both macropores and mesopores. This is a simplification of the method of monolithic column preparation. Poly(ethylene glycol) was used as a partial substitute for F127 can effectively prevent shrinkage during the monolith aging process without losing much surface area (944 $m^2/g$ to 807 $m^2/g$). More importantly, the resultant material showed a much narrower mesopore size (centered at 6 nm) distribution than that made using only F127 as the template reagent, which helps the mass transfer process. The solvent washing method was used to remove the remaining organic template, and it was proved to be effective enough. The new synthesis method makes the fabrication of the silica monolithic column (especially capillary column) much easier. All the structure parameters indicate that monolith PFA05 prepared by the above method is a good material for separation, with the merits of much higher surface area than usual commercial HPLC silica particles, suitable mesopore volume, narrow mesopore size distribution, low shrinkage and it is easily prepared.
