  • Surface texturing of tribological application is another attractive technology of friction reducing. Also, reduction of friction is therefore considered to be a necessary requirement for improved efficiency of machine. In this paper attempts to investigate the effect of density for micro-scale dimple pattern on bearing steel flat mated with pin-on-disk. We demonstrated the lubrication mechanism for a Stribeck curve, which has a relationship between the friction coefficient and a dimensionless parameter for lubrication condition. It is found that friction coefficient is depended on the density of surface pattern. It was thus verified that micro-scale dimple could affect the friction reduction.Lubrication condition regime has an influence on the friction coefficient induced the density of micro dimple.

  • Relationships between the plating condition and the plating rate of the deposition film for the electroless plating of Co-Cu-P alloy were discussed in this report. The result obtained from this experiment were summarized as follow ; The optimum bath composition was consisted of 0.8 ppm thiourea as a stabilizing agent. Composition of the deposit was found to be uniform after two hours of electroless plating. Plating rates of nickel-catalytic surface and zincate-catalytic surface were found to be very closely equal, but the plating time of nickel-catalytic surface took longer than that of the zincated-catalytic surface.

  • The ultra-precision cutting is a key technique for the manufacture of optical components such as aluminium mirrors, electroless nickel mirror, plastic mirror in a variety of advanced science and technology applications. The paper presents experimental results of ultra-precision diamond fuming of electroless nickel materials. In general, the cutting condition such as feed rate and depth of rut, have effect on the surface roughness in ultra-precision diamond turning. To obtain an optimal cutting condition, we studied the effect of the cutting speed. the tool length, the tool nose radius, the feed rate and depth of cut on the surface roughness. So, the relationship of the surface roughness and cutting condition has been clarified. From the experimental results, the machined surface roughnesses were obtained less than 1nm rms.

  • The effects of thickness and surface grinding condition on the fracture strength of Si wafer with a thickness under $100{\mu}m$ were investigated. Fracture strength was measured by ball breaker test for about 330 dies (size: $4mm{\times}4mm$) per each wafer. For statistical analysis of the fracture strength, scale factor was determined from Weibull plot. Ball breaker fracture strength was observed to increase with decreasing thickness of silicon die. For the silicon dies of different surface conditions, ball breaker fracture strength was high in the order of polished, ground (#4800), and ground (#320 grit) specimen. Probabilistic fracture strength (i.e., scale factor) increased with decreasing surface roughness of silicon die.

  • End-milling have been used in the industrial world because it is very effective to the manufacture of mechanical parts with various shape. Recently the end-milling processing is needed the high-precise technique with good surface roughness and rapid time in aircraft, automobile part and molding industry. Therefore this study carried to decide the optimum cutting condition for surface roughness and rapid manufacturing time using design of experiment and ANOVA. From the results of experimentation, surface roughness have an effect on cutting direction, spindle speed and depth of cut. And then the optimum condition used Taguchi design is upward cutting in cutting direction, 600rpm in spindle speed, 240mm/min feed rate, 2mm in axial depth of cut and 0.25mm radial depth of cut. By using design of experiment, it is effectively represented shape characteristics of working surface in end-milling.

  • In this work, a panel method is described, which cart solve the flow field round a surface-piercing body that experiences lift and wave resistance. As the body boundary condition, a Dirichlet type is employed, and as the free surface boundary condition the Poisson type is implemented, while in its discretization Dawson's 4-point upwind difference scheme is utilized, and as the Kutta condition a Morino-Kuo type is chosen. As to the type of singularity, source panels are distributed on the free surface, and source and dipole panels on the body surface, and dipole panels on the wake surface. For a sample run, a catamaran of the parabolic Wigley hull is chosen, for which experimental data are available, and the predictions by the numerical means and by the experiment are compared for a wide range of parameters.

  • Especially, Fiber glass Reinforced Plastics(FRP) is the best composite insulating material which has been so far. Therefore, it's worthy of notice to investigate on the corona electrified composite insulating material by surface condition. And then some other materials will be focussed on. In this study, charge decay were measured with charging-time and grid voltage on FRP composite material surface in order to analyze the mechanism. As a result we have studied that the way of the composite glass fiber(GF) and Polymer and the condition of the contaminated surface was different. In case of the GF is mixed with vertical, charge decay speed is fast because the charge is easily leaked. On the other hand, the surface charge decay speed is depend on conductive or insulated of the contaminant.

  • The dynamic and sensing performances of nanomechanical resonators with their different boundary conditions are studied based on surface elasticity-based modeling and simulation. Specifically, the effect of surface stress is included in Euler-Bernoulli beam model for different boundary conditions. It is shown that the surface effect on the intrinsic elastic property of nanowire is independent of boundary conditions, while these boundary conditions affect the frequency behavior of nanowire resonator. The detection sensitivity of nanowire resonator is remarkably found to depend on the boundary conditions such that double-clamping boundary condition results in the higher mass sensitivity of the resonator in comparison with simple-support or cantilever boundary condition. Furthermore, we show that the frequency shift of nanowire resonator due to mass adsorption is determined by its length, whereas the frequency shift is almost independent of its thickness. This study enables a design principle providing an insight into how the dynamic and sensing performances of nanomechanical resonator is determined and tuned.

  • Unpaved forest roads are common accessways in mountain areas being used for forestry purposes. The presence of forest roads produces large volumes of surface runoff and sediment yield due to changes in soil properties and hillslope profile. Rainfall simulation experiments were conducted to estimate the impacts of above-ground vegetation and antecedent soil water condition on hydrology and sediment processes. A total of 9 small plots($1m{\times}0.5m$) were installed to represent different road surface conditions: no-vegetation(3 plots), vegetated surface(3 plots), and cleared vegetation surface(3 plots). Experiments were carried out on dry, wet, and very wet soil moisture conditions for each plot. Above ground parts of vegetation on road surface influenced significantly on surface runoff. Runoff from no-vegetation roads(39.24L) was greater than that from vegetated(25.05L), while cleared-vegetation condition is similar to no-vegetation roads(39.72L). Runoff rate responded in a similar way to runoff volume. Soil erosion was also controlled by land cover, but the magnitude is little than that of surface runoff. Even though slight differences among antecedent soil moisture conditions were found on both runoff and soil erosion, runoff rate and soil losses were increased in very wet condition, followed by wet condition. The experiments suggest that vegetation cover on forest road surface seems most effective way to reduce surface runoff and soil erosion during storm periods.

  • This study expanded Terzaghi arching formula, which assumed a vertical surface as a sliding surface, to consider an arbitrarily inclined surface as a sliding surface and examined the effect of a sliding surface. This study firstly developed a formula to expand the existing Terzaghi arching formula to consider an inclined surface as well as a vertical surface as a sliding surface under the downward movement of a trap door. Using the expanded formula, the effect of excavation, ground, and surcharge conditions on a vertical stress was examined and the results were compared with them from Terzaghi arching formula. The comparison indicated that the induced vertical stress was highly affected by the angle of an inclined sliding surface and the degree of influence depended on the excavation, ground, and surcharge conditions. It is expected that the results from this study would provide a better understanding of various arching phenomenon in the future.
