This study was carried out to analyze the surface color change according to the weathering time. The surface color of material was one of evaluation indexes in exposure experiment. For the purpose, accelerated weathering test was performed with wood. The weathering time level was composed with 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 hours and color difference was estimated with the color difference meter. The surface color was changed to 500 hours that lightness and redness were decreased and yellowness was increased. However it did not changed after 500 hours. It means that the surface color could be the evaluation index of deterioration of the wood but it means very little after certain time.
In this research, the surface color of 'Fuji' apples and tomatoes were measured by using Sharp PD 151 semiconductor color sensors. The measurements were compared with color-difference-meter readings and with visual sensory test scores. A negative exponential function was developed which describe the relationship between the dominant wavelength of the surface color of 'Fuji' apples and the ratio of the photoelectric currents of the color sensor. Also a linear relationship was found for the surface color of tomatoes and the color sensor output. There were good correlations between the visual test scores and the color sensor output for both 'Fuji' apples and tomatoes.
Purpose: This study was conducted to compare the Vickers hardness on the denture acrylic resins using the glaze color system. Methods: The specimens (20×2 mm) were prepared by mixing according to the manufacturer's protocols through thermal polymerization and self-polymerization. The surface roughness was measured using a testing machine after water-soaking for 48 hours. For the Vickers hardness measurement, the completed specimen was soaked in water for 48 hours and then applied at 200 gf for 30 seconds. Was the specimen immersed after being soaked in water for 48 hours at temperatures of 5℃ and 55℃, respectively, for 30 seconds for the thermos-cycling treatment, and it was carried out 5,000 times. Results: Surface roughness was higher in the more glazing group than in the control group. A significant difference was observed in all groups, except for the Retec Don 2000 and Luciton 199 groups (p<0.05). As a result of measuring the Vickers hardness, the treatment by glaze color showed slightly lower but the thermo-cycling treatment group appeared higher than control group in all. Conclusion: Therefore, the glaze color was found to affect the surface roughness and showed a significant difference. The surface glaze color showed a very high Vickers hardness after the thermo-cycling treatment, indicating that the surface-strengthening effect is greater in the oral environment.
We prepared nickel silicide layers from p-Si(l00)/SiO₂(2000 Å)/poly-Si(700 Å)/Ni(400 Å) structures, feasible for gates in MOSFETs, by annealing them from 500℃~900℃ for 30 minutes. We measured the color coordination in visible range, cross sectional micro-structure, and surface topology with annealing temperature by an UV-VIS-IR spectrometer, field effect scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM), and scanning probe micro-scope respectively. We conclude that we may identify the nickel silicide by color difference of 0.90 and predict the silicide process reliability by color coordination measurement. The nickel silicide layers showed similar thickness while the columnar grains size and surface roughness increased as annealing temperature increased.
Objective: To assess the color stability and translucency of full cubic stabilized zirconia (FSZ) following orthodontic bonding with different surface treatments and coffee thermocycling (CTC). Methods: This in vitro study was conducted on 120 disc-shaped specimens of FSZ. Thirty specimens were selected as the control group and remained intact. The remaining specimens were randomly divided into three groups based on the type of surface treatment (n = 30): airborne particle abrasion (APA), silica-coating (CoJet), and carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. After metal bracket bonding in the test groups, debonding and polishing were performed. Subsequently, all specimens underwent CTC (10,000 cycles). Color parameters, color difference (ΔE00), and translucency parameter (TP) were measured three times at baseline (t0), after debonding and polishing (t1), and after CTC (t2). Data were statistically analyzed (α = 0.05). Results: Significant difference existed among the groups regarding ΔE00t0t2 (p < 0.001). The APA group showed minimum (ΔE00 = 1.15 ± 0.53) and the control group showed maximum (ΔE00 = 0.19 ± 0.02) color stability, with no significant difference between the laser and CoJet groups (p = 0.511). The four groups were significantly different regarding ΔTPt0t2 (p < 0.001). Maximal increases in TP were noted in the CoJet (1.00 ± 0.18) and APA (1.04 ± 0.38) groups while minimal increase was recorded in the control group (0.1 ± 0.02). Conclusions: Orthodontic treatment makes zirconia restorations susceptible to discoloration and increased translucency. Nonetheless, the recorded ΔE00 and ΔTP did not exceed the acceptability threshold.

PURPOSE. Polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) materials, also called hybrid ceramics, are new materials in dental market. The manufacturer of the PICN material VITA Enamic suggests 3 different finishing procedures for this new material. In the present study, surface roughness and color differences caused from different finishing procedures of VITA Enamic were investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 120 specimens were prepared in dimensions $2{\times}10{\times}12mm$ from VITA Enamic hybrid ceramic blocks with 'high translucency' and 'translucency 2M2' shades. The specimens were divided into 8 groups. For each group, different finishing procedures suggested by the manufacturer were performed. Surface roughness values were determined by a tactile portable profilometer. Color changes were evaluated using a clinical spectrophotometer. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc comparison. The significance level was set at ${\alpha}=0.05$. RESULTS. The roughest surfaces were observed in Glaze Groups. Their surface roughness values were similar to that of the control group. Clinical Kit and Technical Kit groups did not show a statistically significant difference regarding surface roughness (P>.05). The largest color difference regarding ${\Delta}E_{00}$ was observed in Clinical Kit finishing groups. There were also statistically significant color changes between the groups (P<.05). However, all the groups showed clinically acceptable color change (${\Delta}E_{00}$<2.25) except Clinical Kit Groups (${\Delta}E_{00}$>2.25). CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of the present study, it may be suggested that finishing the VITA Enamic restorations by Technical Kit instead of Glaze and Clinical Kit gives better clinical performance in regard to surface roughness and shade matching.
This research investigated the effect of individual yarn colors on the perception of overall colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics. The way the colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics are perceived is known as visual color mixing: when the different colored yarns juxtaposed on the fabric surface are observed from some distance away, they are visually mixed in our eyes and perceived as a solid color. However, we can still see individual yarn colors that make the fabrics look obviously different from actual solid colors. To quantify this visual color mixing effect, twenty-one sateen fabrics were produced in a wide range of colors using cyan, magenta, and yellow yarns, and the colors were measured instrumentally. The obtained colorimetric values were converted into solid color images on a CRT monitor. Then, the physical fabrics were scanned, and the scanned images were displayed on the monitor with solid color images in pairs for visual color difference evaluation. The woven and solid colors in each pair were of physically identical color; however, the visual color difference was as large as $4.81{\Delta}{E^*}_{ab}$ on average. A visual color difference model was proposed by considering this parametric effect of individual yarn colors.
Ceromers, new indirect resin system, are now being adopted for esthetic restorations. Despite of its translucency and good color matching, color stability after long-term use was unknown till now. This in vitro study was designed to evaluate color stability of some ceromers when subjected to brushing after thermocycling. Three types of ceromers: Scupture, Targis, Artglass and a direct resin system, Z100 were prepared to disks 12 mm in diameter, 2.5 mm in thickness. All specimens were polished, and Sculpture and Targis specimens were divided two groups, respectively. Then, half of them were glazed according to manufacturer's instructions. All specimen were brushed 20,000 times after 10,000 cycle thermocycling. Color was measured with spectrophotometer after 1,000, 3,000, 10,000 times thermocycling and 20,000 time brushing, respectively. Color difference (${\Delta}E$) was calculated according to CIE LAB system. During thermocycling, Sculpture & Targis system with polished surface showed greater color change than any other groups. After brushing, color difference was reduced significantly. Mean values of ${\Delta}E$ ranged 0.98 to 2.98. All Ceromers were considered clinically acceptable after thermocycling and brushing, and color change mechanism was affected by the brands and finishing methods. It might be concluded that color change of ceromer is due to surface alteration.
This research was carried out to find the mordant effects by Tara and Myrobalan as natural tannins on the cow leather dyed with Lac powder. The cow leathers were treated with Tara, Myrobalan, Al, Cu, and Fe mordants by changing treatment orders. It was examined for K/S value, surface color changes, and color difference. The K/S value generally has higher Myrobalan than Tara, and pre-mordant than post-mordanted condition. Cu is the strongest among the three mordants. As a results of the treatment order, the K/S value is higer in pre-tannin-mordant agent than in pre-mordant agent-tannin. In the post mordant, K/S value is higher in mordant agent-tannin than in tannin-mordant agent. The color difference and color factors such as H, V and C were various according to the mordant agents, treatment orders and mordant methods; and surface colors of dyed cow leathers were R and RP. It was difficult to find some significant means of mordant orders.
This study deals with the analysis of color-difference and physical property of anti-corrosion coatings using at inside of concrete tank for drinking water. Because anti-corrosion coatings are effected by chemical attack, color and physical property are changed. So in this study when epoxy resin coatings of 3 types were received chemical attack by Cl- and NaOH, we present the co-relationship between color-difference and bond strength. For this study, we used the colorimetry, which can measure the degree of color difference on surface of materials. As the results, in case of Cl-, color change is appeared, bond strength also is decreased. From this experiment, we could know that color change due to chemical aging has the deep relationship with physical performance(bond strength) materials. further researches are needed.
