Community Patterning of Benthic Macroinvertebrates in Slightly and Moderately Polluted Streams in Spring and Summer

  • Benthic macroinvertebrates were collected two times from 116 sites at the $1^{st}{\sim}4^{th}$ order streams in forest areas in Gyungsang province in late spring and late summer. The sample sites belonged to slightly and moderately polluted states. When communities were classified by the Self-Organizing Map (SOM), the gradient was observed according to degree of pollution. Within clusters of slightly polluted sites, however, seasonality was further observed. Scrapers, gatherer-collectors, and filterer-collectors were abundantly observed in late spring while shredders appeared more in late summer. The number of predator species increased in late summer. Behavior types were mostly clingers in two seasons. Community compositions at the moderately polluted sites were not much differentiated in different seasons. Gatherer-collectors and burrowers were dominantly collected in both seasons.

호소에 있어서의 생산구조에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Productive Structure in some Lakes in Korea)

  • The productivity of summer phytoplankton communities in Lake Hwajinpo, Lake Yongrang and Lake Changja were studied by measuring vertical variation of chlorophyll a amounts. The author also classified the lake types on the basis of the amount of chlorophyll in the lake water. And in Lake Changja, the seasonal changes of stratification of chlorophyll were studies. In Lake Hwajinpo, the productive structure of the phytoplankton community in summer was found to be L-shaped and of the mesotrophic type. In Lake Yongrang, the productive structure of the phytoplankton community in summer was alo L-shaped and of the mesotrophic type. And maximum chlorophyll layer was near the lake bottom below the compensation depth. In Lake Changja, the structure of phytoplankton community in summer was reversed L-shaped and of the eutrophic type, with the maximum chlorophyll layer just below the surface. The vertical distribution of chlorophyll amounts as a measure of the productive structure almost always formed a stratum distribution except in September and sometimes in May, in Lake Changja. In September homogeneous distribution was observed.

상당온위를 사용한 동아시아 여름철 몬순의 6월 및 7월 주 변동 모드 분석 (Dominant Modes of the East Asian Summer Monsoon Using Equivalent Potential Temperature)

  • The monsoon front lies on East Asian region, but it gradually propagates to the north during the boreal summer. The equivalent potential temperature (EPT) reveals the thermodynamical features of air masses and monsoon front. Therefore, this study considered the thermodynamical EPT and dynamical wind fields to clarify the peculiarity of East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) variations in June and July, respectively. Western North Pacific subtropical high (WNPSH) and Okhotsk sea high (OSH) both play the crucial role to interannual variations of EASM frontal activity and amount of rainfall. The OSH is important in June, but the WNPSH is key factor in July. Furthermore, the OSH (June) is affected by North Atlantic tripolar sea surface temperature (SST) pattern and WNPSH (July) is influenced by North Indian Ocean SST warming.

아동복 색채선호에 대한 조사연구 (A Study on Color Preference of Children's Wear)

  • The purpose of this study is to survey the color preference of mothers for the clothing of their children whose clothing is usually chosen by their mothers. The survey was performed by showing 60 color samples to provide the fashion color planning. The result of this study shows that the prefe-rences in hue and tone are different mainly by season. The most preferred colors are yellow for boys and pink for girls in spring white in summer beige in fall and black in winter. The most preferred tones for boys are pale in spring and summer dull in fall and dark in winter. For girls light tone is most preferred in spring and pale in summer bright in fall and dark in winter. Analysis of tone preferences in 6 colors shows that bright and clear are commonly preferred tones for children's clothing. pale light vivid tones of yellow green and blue are preferred for girls and boys. Dark purple is preferred in fall and winter while pale tone is preferred in spring and summer. Red is preferred for girls especially in pale bright vivid tones while dark grayish and deep tones are preferred for boys in fall and winter.

강의실 빛 환경에 대한 재실자의 주관적 평가 (The Subjective Evaluation on the Light Environment of Residents at Classrooms)

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the quality of the light environment of classroom. To attain this purpose, this study estimated the physical factor and evaluation of the subjective response of classroon located in south and north in the summer and the winter. The results are as followed. 1. The evaluation of the illumination, uniformity factor, daylight factor as physical factor of light environment is good as classroom, but the classroom in south is better that that in north, the light environment in summer is better than winter. 2. The subjective response to light environment of classroom is positive on both seasons at all calssroom. Comparing summer with winter, I found that the difference of subjective response between both classrooms on summer is attentive. 3. The realtion between subjective response and physical factor of light environment in classroom is attentive on the light sense, content sense, uniformity.

  • The recent summer power peak crisis has been caused by excessive use of cooling loads at daily peak time in summer. The yearly load shape of KEPCO has gradually became very steep valley. Under this situation, more efficient DSM(Demand Side Management) tools are fully required for summer peak clipping and shaving. In this paper, the KEPCO's Jeju-Do model project for DSM, especially for Demand Controller, is presented. Demand Controller was evaluated to have the very high economical efficiency against the investment in equipment, as compared with another DSM tools. There were some serious problem to apply Demand Controller to many customers in the aspect to synchronization with KEPCO's watthour meter. But these problems have solved by Keyin's new Demand Controller using vision algorithm.

2002년 8월의 집중호우와 저온현상 (Agricultural Implications of Rainfall Events and Low Temperature in August 2002)

  • When the long - lasting stationary fronts were pushed northward by the Pacific Highs in late July, mostly clear skies with intermittent showers were a typical weather of August in Korea. However, torrential rains and flash floods are now a seasonal event of August in recent years. Some meteorologists suspect this unusual phenomenon might be connected with the global change and are concerned about the possibility of change in summer climatic pattern in Korea. August of year 2002 must be remembered to be one of the record breaking months with respect to the rainfall events. In this paper, we analyzed the weather and crop data nationwide for August in 2002, and suggest a few countermeasures necessary to overcome the wet and cool summer impacts on agricultural sector.

남한의 지역간, 계절간 강수량의 특성 (The Variations of Interstational and Interseasonal Rainfall in South Korea)

  • Interstational and interseasonal analyses of the correlation and variability in the seasonal and annual precipitation for 10 basic synoptic stations in South Korea, on the basis of rainfall record of over 40 years, are carried out. It is found that the climatic regions of precipitation could be classified by means of the interstational analysis for the correlations. Corrleation coefficients in interstational relationship of precipitation are lowest in autumn which characterizeds a strong locality while the highest value shows a relatively weak locality in winter. Interseasonal relationship between summer and winter precipitation shows mostly 10 percent significant level with all positive values. The magnitude of the variation coefficients are appeared to be in the order of winter, autumn, spring and summer. It is shown that the highest which is winter ranges between 0.33 0.58, and for the lowest summer, 0.26-0.44, respectively in the areal distribution of the coefficient. The secular changes of the variation coefficient in the recent trend show increases in spring at two station; Seoul and Incheon, in summer at Busan and in autumn at two stations; Busan and Incheon while in winter show devreases at the whole stations. An annual variation seems to show generally a constant trend as whole for all the stations.

Detection of Respiratory Viral Pathogens and Mycoplasma spp from Calves with Summer Pneumonia in Korea

  • Respiratory pathogens of calves including bovine parainfluenza type 3 virus (BPI3V), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus (IBRV) and Mycoplasma spp is well-known for winter pathogens. However, there are no studies about summer pneumonia pathogens of calves in Korea. The aim of this study was to detect respiratory pathogens from calves with summer pneumonia. Eighty calves from 5 regions were chosen and their nasal swabs were used to detect respiratory pathogens with real-time PCR. Mycoplasma spp was major primary respiratory pathogens in calves with summer pneumonia. Although, the detection rates of respiratory viruses were very low, serological assays showed that respiratory viruses exist widely in farms.

간척지에서 사료용 피 품종들의 건물수량 및 사료가치 비교 (Comparison of Forage Yield and Feed Value of Millet Varieties in the Reclaimed Tidelands)

  • 본 시험은 제주도에서 재배되고 있는 제주재래 등 총 6품종을 공시하여 피 품종 간의 생초 및 건물수량과 사료가치 등을 조사 분석하여 간척지에서 최적 사료용 피 품종 선발을 위한 기초 자료를 얻기 위해 충청남도 당진군에 소재한 대호간척지에서 1년간 수행하였다. 출현율은 겸용인 Summer green 품종이 95.0%로 가장 높았다. 생초 및 건물수량은 Summer green 품종ol 각각 21,444kg/ha와 5,296.5kg/ha으로 가장 높았다. 조단백질 함량은 Shirohie(18.22%) 품종이 가장 높았다. TDN 함량은 Siberian 품종이 가장 높았으며 Panorama 품종이 가장 낮았다. 결과적으로 간척지 토양에서 사료용 피 재배 시 출현률, 생초 및 건물생산성 그리고 사료가치 등을 종합하여 고려할 때 겸용인 Summer green 품종이 가장 우수하였다.
