  • In this paper, we describe how specially developed polymer capped, nano-particle silver inks can be used to print circuitry for applications like displays, RFID antennas and "disposable electronics". The requirements of printing on temperature sensitive flexible substrates (such as polymer films and papers) that require low temperature curing is also discussed.

  • The mechanism responsible for liquid crystal (LC) alignment on solid substrates treated with mechanical rubbing or polarized UV is not understood. The results of x-ray reflectivity study of LC alignment on a large number of different alignment layers show that the anisotropy in the surface roughness of the substrate completely determines the LC alignment. The anchoring energy depends on the degree of roughness anisotropy and chemical interactions between the substrate and LC molecules.

  • this work was designed to study the species belonging to Family Rhodospirillaceae in Korea. The species of Rhodopseudomonas palustris and R. gelatinosa were isolated and identified. The utilization of various substrates such as malate, succinate, citrate, pyruvate, propionate and acetate were tested with isolated KS 007 and KS o16. Though there were some differences according to nitrogen source in media it was thought that he intermediates of TCA cycle were comparatively good substrates, Also it was confirmed that isolated strains have the ability of nitrogen fixation.

  • Laser ablation of glass substrates (8K-7 and synthetic quartz) using a transversely excited atmospheric (TEA) $CO_2$ laser has been inverstigated to obtain high speed etching. The ablation occurs by local heating of a substrate with a focused TEA-$CO_2$ laser beam. The dependence of ablation rate on pulse count and repetition-rate of laser has been discussed.

  • A low temperature doping technique to be applied in poly-Si TFTs on plastic substrates was investigated. Heavily-doped amorphous silicon layers were deposited on poly-Si and the dopant atoms were driven in by subsequent excimer laser annealing. The entire process was carried out under a substrate temperature of 120 $^{\circ}C$, and a sheet resistance of as low as 300 ${\Omega}$/sq. was obtained.

  • Hydrophobic treatments were conducted for different kinds of substrates, glass substrate, silicon wafer and plastic substrate. Ar-$CH_4$ gas mixture was used as a discharge gas for the hydrophobic treatment. The change of the contact angle before and after treatment was measured and compared. Time evolution of the contact angle change after hydrophobic treatment was investigated.

  • We present tapered nanostructures fabricated on a selective area of gallium phosphide substrates for advanced optoelectronic device applications. A lithography-free fabrication process was accomplished by dry etching of metal nanoparticles. Thermal dewetting of micro-patterned metal thin films provides etch masks for tapered nanostructures. This simple process also allows the formation of plasmonic surfaces with corrugated shapes. Rigorous coupled-wave analysis calculations provide design guidelines for tapered nanostructures on gallium phosphide substrates.

  • Integrase (Int) carries out the cutting and resealing of attachment (att) site DNA via a covalent Int-DNA intermediate. A family of synthetic substrate DNAs was designed to accumulate Int-DNA intermediate. Int-DNA intermediates accumulated by half substrate was analyzed by SDS- KCI precipitation and restriction digestion. The results showed that Int-half DNA intermediate was circular and contained covalently bound Int molecule. Int-DNA intermediates were also trapped with three other kinds of synthetic substrates.

  • Catalytic effects of tertiary amines on N-sulfinylation of p-toluenesulfonamide, p-toluidine, and p-toluamide have been investigated by proton NMR studies. Though the catalytic effects were dependent on the substrates, 4-dimethylaminopyridine, pyridine and triethylamine exerted stronger catalytic effects than imidazole and N,N-dimethylaniline. Among the substrates employed, p-toluenesulfonamide turned out to be catalyzed greater than p-toluidine and p-toluamide.
