  • The Korean Peninsula is geographically located in the centre of Far Eastern Asia and has complex and various climate conditions following longitudinal topology, which would expect to be result in high diversity and endemism of millipede. In this study, the millipede fauna of the Korean Peninsula consists of 68 species plus 5 subspecies from 29 genera, 15 families and 7 orders. Of these species/subspecies, 29 and 12 are endemic in South Korea and North Korea, respectively; nine are recorded in both South Korea and North Korea. Each species has been provided comprehensive information including an original report, taxonomic changes, distribution, and remarks if necessary. Moreover, unsolved taxonomic uncertainty of some species included in this checklist should be investigated through further study.

  • The Aphis solanella, had been classified as a subspecies of Aphis fabae, is currently recognized as a separated species with A. fabae. The A. solanella is morphologically similar to A. fabae and has the same primary host, but there are differences in the range of the secondary host, physiological and ecological traits, so it has been suggested as a separated species. Since it had not been covered when recording the A. fabae at least including three subspecies in 2006 from South Korea, we recently collected and reconfirmed A. solanella in Busan. Therefore, we report the Aphis solanella as a new record with its description and illustrations.

  • RAPD analyses using 60 OPERON primers and 13 URPs were performed in order to assess the genetic variation and frequency of polymorphisms in Korean salmonids. RAPDS were very reproducible and most useful at the sub-species level. In RAPD analysis, 138 polymorphic bands were detected between Oncorhynchus masou subspecies and 99 bands were generated in two types of rainbow trout. Estimated genetic distances between O. masou subspecies were 0.28794, and between wild rainbow trout and an albino mutant was 0.22786. Each species of salmonid was well characterized using URP 4R, the obtained bands could be useful as a species specific RAPD markers.
